Middle of Slam - First time testing FAS-DPD

I see you have stairs in your pool. Pull those out and check them over well for Algae, wash them well with chlorine/bleach. Algae hides in stairs and ladders, and in light niches.

Algae in my above ground pool

I see in your picture you have a ladder/stairs in your pool, pull those out and clean them well with bleach. Algae hides in them. I would leave them out for the SLAM

    Starting my first SLAM

Bring your PH down to 7.2 before you start your SLAM, one your chlorine is at and above 10 you won’t get an accurate PH reading. Test and add as often as you can and the SLAM should go quickly. Remember brush the bottom and sides often. If you have removable ladders or stairs take those out...

    Pool SLAM advice needed

Also, take out any stairs or steps as algae hides in those. Give them a good cleaning with bleach and leave them out during the SLAM. Check your skimmer area for signs of algae and gunk also.

    Cloudy white water

If you have ladders or removable stairs you need to pull those out and clean them well. They are great hiding places for Algae. Also, if you have pool lights remove those and check the niches, also check your skimmer box and weir door.

    Pool SLAM advice needed

I would shop vac out that stuff. My 1st pool was an intex and I took it down every year, the shop vac worked great at getting the last of the water out.

    She won't stop eating chlorine!

Also check the stairs out, Algae loves hiding in all the nooks and crannies.

New Algae Growth When I Don't Think It Should Be There

“Now I get it....when we take the cover off in March.....SLAM THE POOL and it'll be good for the rest of the year.” Or close your pool when the water temp is below 60, bring your FC up to slam level a couple of days before closing. Open your pool before the water temp goes above 60, adjust...

    New to everything

Are you brushing and vacuuming daily? That helps a lot and needs to be done. How often are you testing your chlorine and making adjustments each day? If you have a ladder/stairs in the pool remove it and give it a good cleaning with bleach, looking into every nook and crannie.

Taking the Plunge (literally and figuratively) with My Pea-Green Pool

With a CYA of 60 your FC target is 7-9 ppm. That means everyday it has to stay above 7 or you are giving Algae the chance to take over. You have to take into consideration that FC gets used up everyday by the sun, people swimming, organics etc... Until you get used to your pools FC demand you...

Will Algaecides cause burning skin and itchiness?

What can cause what you are describing is CC’s in your water, or water being out of balance. Post your full test results from your own test kit so we can have a look.

    The undead Algae

It turned orange because your chlorine is so high. Just use the first test you did to test for FC

Pool turnaround - need advice on getting stuff out from the bottom

A pool leaf rake would remove the big stuff. Then vacuum the smaller stuff.

Clear Blue Water but still new algae everyday

Do not add anymore stabilizer, the higher the CYA the more chlorine you will need to SLAM. Also your saltwater generator needs to be turned off during a slam. PH cannot be properly measured with chlorine levels over 10, so no need to test that right now. The only thing you need to test is...

Clear Blue Water but still new algae everyday

If you look at the chart I provided the link to it shows if your CYA is 60 your SLAM level for chlorine would be 24 ppm not 30. No point in going higher than the recommended SLAM level, as you don't want to risk bleaching your liner. CYA levels are measured in 10's, there is no 45, 55, 65...

Clear Blue Water but still new algae everyday

With your CYA at 55, it is 60 as we round up. Your shock level is 24 according to the chart. https://www.troublefreepool.com/blog/2019/01/18/chlorine-cya-chart/

Clear Blue Water but still new algae everyday

What is your CYA at? You need to know that first so you can properly slam with right amount of chlorine/bleach. Mustard Algae needs a higher chlorine target.

Clear Blue Water but still new algae everyday

Can you take a picture of the brown stuff you refer to as Algae and post it. Could it be you are dealing mustard algae which requires a higher amount of chlorine to get rid of it. I'm sure the experts here will chime in. Also, post your full set of test results.

    Pools Opens Black Every Year

If you ever want to get this right you have to stop using pool store testing and get your own test kit. Your CYA is very high which is caused by powdered shocks and chlorine tabs. With a CYA that high you are going to need a lot of liquid chlorine to properly slam your pool. You need to...
