Puck Should be a 4 Letter Word

Dump powder in pool water filled to 10. Speed stir. If it's pink there's chlorine detected. Count how many drops it takes to turn the water clear. Give up after it seemingly never turns clear (easily 70 drops, maybe more like 80). No giving up next time.

Puck Should be a 4 Letter Word

TF-100 but admittedly my chemicals are a year old. They've been stored in a dark, cool spot and not even opened since 2022 spring sale. I gave up on the solution turning clear. Will run it again after work. I had been on auto-pilot in a routine that worked for years and not testing often. I'm...

Puck Should be a 4 Letter Word

Thanks for the refresher, folks. Will do the overnight chlorine loss test Wed/Thur. We're on rainwater collection and don't have enough in the tank to replace half the pool right now. Hoping the skies open up before long. Been super dry since the March or April.

Puck Should be a 4 Letter Word

Used to use bleach but almost $7 a bottle now. Been using pucks since the insanity knowing the affect on CYA. Went out of town for maybe a week and have been struggling since. Not sure if old chemicals are messing with results... FC- 35...is this even possible? CC- 0 TC- 35 and maybe higher, I...

Dark Stain on Plaster from Chlorine Puck

Nothing else added except a little acid every now and then to keep pH down. Pre-pandemic I used bleach but it's become expensive and sometimes hard to locate. CYA level is a little low so I've been using pucks lately. Pool was originally filled by truck in 2016 but since then the level is...

Dark Stain on Plaster from Chlorine Puck

Absolutely. The small stuff is just whatever debris, I hadn't swept yet. And, the spillway was running so a little turbulence on the water. Other than the 2 greyish blobs the plaster is fine. Thanks

Dark Stain on Plaster from Chlorine Puck

Part of a chlorine puck (Trichloro-s-triazinetrione) ended up in the pool for a day or 2. Once removed left behind is a dark stain on the plaster. I've read about vitamin c for iron. Is there anything that can remove the puck stain? Thanks

To Slam or Not To Slam?

Water isn't as clear as it was last year. It's been a brutal spring from leaves and oak tree catkins. Chlorine level dipped to 0.5 earlier this week. I ran it up between 8 & 12 with CYA of 40 for 3-5 days but clarity is not back. OCLT Results PM FC- 8.5 CC- 0.5 AM FC- 7.0 CC- 0.5 It's more...

How does CH jump over the winter?

How does CH jump over the winter?

^ good to know. The pool's tank is empty as a pipe burst this winter. Need to fix that and collect some water before it can be tested. In the meantime Pool Math tells me to keep the pH down and a lower TA is better with high CH. Higher TA and high pH push CSI near .6 and the trouble zone.

How does CH jump over the winter?

Thanks for the link. I haven't read that one before. I was surprised when the CH didn't drop after replacing water...disappointed. Speedstir- affirmative We only have rainwater. Refills over the winter were normal. Now that you ask there's a dedicated rainwater tank for the pool, 1k gal. I've...

How does CH jump over the winter?

How does CH jump over the winter? Where's the calcium coming from? Does lower TA play any part in this? Last year CH was consistently in the 425 range. Running the test (twice) it's now 600. And this is after replacing some water last year. Rough estimate is 25% of 25k gallons. Pool Math wants...

    Sneaking a Pool Test

90 was a little generous. Would be great if there was a more quantifiable test for CYA. I'm tall and my eyes aren't as good as they once were. It could have been interpreted closer to 110.

    Sneaking a Pool Test

A family member has heard the TFP story but still uses pucks. So while visiting this past weekend I snuck a sample of water in a plastic water bottle to bring home for testing. They have kids who have lots of friends. So the question...will the results be impacted by sitting in a plastic water...

Central Texas Pollen - Update with Storm mess

Re: Central Texas Live Oak Pollen Whoa, that's bad. At least they're mostly on that side? In our pool it's been all over the place. Leaves are much easier/quicker to scoop up than these nasty suckers. Stir the water up and they sink but most float back up after you've moved on to a new area...

Central Texas Pollen - Update with Storm mess

Re: Central Texas Live Oak Pollen Seems like the leaves were worse this spring but also this is first year with a pool so maybe it just seems worse. It's been really windy, too, so that's not helping. At least with the katkins out the leaves are done. Now if all the leaves caught in the grass...
