Just received my reagent replacement. Been testing w tfp reagents for 7-8 years and purchase new almost every year. This year the vial of powder has dessicant and contents are snow white. Never seen that before
I'm guessing it's normal just new to me
unless you dumped in ~500 lbs of salt that is unlikely to be accurate ( didnt actually do the pool math but it would be a LOT )
ok i couldnt stand it - pool math says to raise my pool to 8600 would take 914 more lbs of salt ...
did your son get all the debris off the bottom ? If not it will take a truckload of chlorine and a million cartridge cleanings to get the water clear .... /sarcasm off
Its not just pools, its people, some are hard to convert to a proven better way. I would encourage him to read the site, or read the manual for the SWG. But at the end of the day pool companies depend on customers like him for the weekly maintenance income.
Ive found it is really VERY easy...
I used the wrong term - its a standard solution
https://tftestkits.net/standard-solutions-c23/
https://tftestkits.net/R-7065-CYA-Standard-50-ppm-2-ounces-p97.html
it will test to a known CYA of 50 so you know what 50 looks like
get the CYA test solution so you can see what a known number looks like - its not hard, just test outside during the day, back to the sun and dont stare, either you see it or you dont in a glance and round down
without some test results, it will be hard to help. based on the visual description it wouldn't be unusual to need gallons if not tens of gallons of chlorine to clear a swamp as you describe it
my advice - stop using powders and pucks that have CYA in them and use chlorine ... As long as you keep using stabilized anything your CYA will be so high you will have trouble getting free chlorine up enough to help with anything ...
A salt system will help a TON in managing your out of...
FYI - i have 22,000 gallon pool and spa and a cartridge filter and typically change the cartridges 2x a year ( when I remember ) and my pool stays pretty crystal without issue ...
These folks know what they are saying ...
Well mine is in need of about 4 gallons to get right again, and at a dollar a gallon I can afford to spend $10 and hope to use it before it gets too weak. I was posting for the benefit of others. Next time Ill keep it to myself ... ;-(
last years left overs, thats funny, its 5 weeks old - 345 th day was Dec 11... Not sure what the expectation is for age of products on walmart shelves but ...
even so at a dollar a gallon its a good deal
I tested my pool 2 days ago and the chlorine was 3 parts per million in the pH was perfect. That was from the pool the water temperature was 60 degrees. Tonight I tested the spa which runs with shared pool water the spa was 100 degrees the chlorine was it 9 + parts per million and the pH was...
if the goal is to run it up before a vacation add it the morning you leave
Its only a little more than a gallon
Make sure your CYA is right to keep the CL level more stable
