    TA Mistake

lol - we have a little Spa & Tub Manufacturers store just down the road but to get to Home Depot or Lowes takes a 2 hour round trip into Mobile. They’re prices aren’t high enough to justify the extra gas. Lady at the store said only to do 12 oz every two hours for the MA. Is this right, or...

    TA Mistake

Pool Math has several options - Baume, MA, Dry Acid - I'm headed to the pool store now - is any one of these a better choice than the others for this situation?

    TA Mistake

I've made a tragic error and I need some help fixing it! My pool was neglected for almost a week (teacher, first week of school....) and had started getting a little icky, so I decided to SLAM. Trying to do it right, I checked TA and PH first and the TA was a little low (30), so I followed pool...

I can get plain Clorox at the WalMart 15 minutes from home, no problem. I have a minivan, so the amount to be carried is not a concern either. And nothing is ever simple with him. Lol. Plates and pins go in surgically Friday morning.

I only have 3 121 oz bottles on hand. Pool math says start with 9 to get FC up to 16. There’s a lot of debris in the pool too I need to get out first - we had a blast of hard wind night before last that dumped massive amount of oak leaves from the neighbors tree. AND my husband broke his arm...

    First Test (ever...)

Did the last water exchange over the weekend and the CYA is just above 40. Everything else is within acceptable limits also, except the chlorine, obviously, because none has been added since we started this process. FC is zero, so we SLAM, yes? Then swim happily all summer. :)

Not sure of the HP on the pump - I borrowed it from my Dad - but he says it empties his 300 gallon hot tub in 15 minutes, so I'm estimating between 850-900 gallons/hr. I estimate we exchanged about 6k gallons on Saturday, or about 18% of the volume. Honestly didn't intend to run the pool pump...

    First Test (ever...)

Ran the pump & hose about 7 hours yesterday. On the bright side, my pump and hose seem to be draining/refilling at a nearly equal rate, so that wasn't very stressful. :) I also couldn't visualize how much water was exchanging, so I was a little concerned not much was happening. The pump...

Today is water exchange day! Wish me luck!

    First Test (ever...)

Ok. :) I found the water line that doesn't charge sewage costs! :) I have a submersible pump. :) I bought a pool thermometer and lots of hose. There's only a 6 degree difference in my fill water and pool water, so the pump/hose at different temp methods is out. It's south Alabama...

To get CH to 300, Pool Math is saying 54% change. So if we do 25%, then another 25% that actually changes out about 44% of the original water. A little less than what PM suggests, but we can retest and see where we stand from there. How long should I wait between refilling and draining the...

Here are the tap water results: FC 1.0 CC 0.0 pH 7.7 TA 60 CH 60 (no question this is blue not purple lol) CYA 0 - no cloud at all

    First Test (ever...)

Here are today's results: FC 10.5 CC 0.0 pH 7.3 TA 70 CH 600 (I've never been more unsure in my life of the difference between purple and blue) CYA 120 (using Rancho's method) I think the pump/top off (and repeat) method will be the better choice - I can't imagnine trying to handle a tarp that...

    First Test (ever...)

Rancho - Thanks. I'll redo the CYA tomorrow in the light following those instructions and see if I can get more accurate readings. The FC is probably accurate. Its a new-to-us pool. We moved in October and the pool has been pretty neglected up until the last week. Took a water sample to the...

    First Test (ever...)

So I got a little giddy when my Taylor 2006C came in today! Watched the videos and did the tests and I’m afraid the solution may be expensive. :( FC 0.4 pH 7.0 TA 30 CH 380 CYA 100 (maybe a little higher, uggh) I added 4 lbs of 73% Cal-Hypo (it’s what I had bought at the pool store before I...
