Test results change if sample sits after testing

I looked up the FAS/DPD kit on Amazon, and ordered it. No more trying do match colors with my aging eyes and varying light sources. I think it should be the extra money in terms of avoided frustration.

Test results change if sample sits after testing

Re: Easier way to test chlorine when maintaining higher FC Thanks for the user report! I'll re-test following your advice. I'd tried the salt strips; I consider them a waste of my money and time.

Test results change if sample sits after testing

I've been using the Taylor DPD kit via Leslie's. I've also diluted the test sample 1 to 1 and then doubled the test result when the test results went off the scale. It would be nice if the Cl test were a "clean" titration with an easily discernible endpoint, as is the Taylor test for total...

    Where's the salt!! Help......

I talked with Jason at Hayward, his feeling was that the cell, the serial number indicated it was a 2010 item, was probably dead. He suggested a local dealer with cell test equipment. I had it checked, and it failed. I've ordered a replacement which should arrive Thursday, in the mean time...

    Where's the salt!! Help......

Okay, I added 2 jugs of 8.25% bleach this morning. OT tests show: pH 6.8 I'll fix this! Cl 5 ppm Tot alk 30ppm Did the acid clean on the cell. Doesn't look good. Time for a call to Hayward. BTW, thanks for the tip on a "titration" test for salt. I do wish that the OT tests for Cl...

    Where's the salt!! Help......

That Blasted Morton!!!!!! I use good old water softener salt from Lowe's, much cheaper than from Leslie's. And I make certain its just good old NaCl, no additives for Fe reduction, etc. Re: Stale test strips: The two multipurpose strips both bear an expiration stamp of 8/15. One NaCl says...

    Where's the salt!! Help......

A little help, please! I am in the process, thus far successfully, of clearing my green pool. Here are the latest quick and dirty test results: Cl 3ppm TCl 5ppm Alk 150 pH 6.5 TH 100 CyA under 40 This from a test strip. The water is still a little cloudy for the...

    Sand Filter Cleaner and more

Close agreement!:D CYA 36 - mine the same. I have been raising this using the sock method in front of the return FC 8 - mine 7.5 (close) - I added bleach because of high use last weekend have been doing overnight test before I lower it. I am now letting it get back to normal PH 7.7 mine about...

    Liquid CYA??

I've got some algae, and without a reasonable CYA it is my understanding that the need for bleach will be greatly increased. While the water is a little cooler than we like, I'd like to see progress on the algae front, especially since we seem to have a neighborhood snoop who will trespass to...

    Liquid CYA??

I do that and it does help. I wonder how the liquid CYA is manufactured; my guess is that the granular form is produced from a liquid. How to reverse the process, that is the question.

    Liquid CYA??

Is there any way to hasten the dissolving of granular CYA? Could it be dissolved in hot water? I'm trying to raise my CYA level for my salt system. Slow going. Water temp about 65F. Also I saw at Leslie's just above the granular CYA some liquid called Natural Chemistry Instant Water...

    Dissolving CYA

I've also done the stocking/massage in front of the return routine. The massage usually releases a "plume" of CYA, whether dissolved or just really fine particles I don't know. Also don't know how much ends up on the pool floor, but at least its not in the filter. Thanks to all for the responses.

Thanks for the response. I was afraid that there wasn't a faster method. And so it goes.....

    Dissolving CYA

As we all know liquid CYA is expensive. Is there any way to speed dissolving powdered CYA? Hot water on the stove, for example? I hesitate to dump it in my skimmer since I might have to backwash before its dissolved, and it would be difficult to tell when its dissolved. I've been using old...
