Thanks all. I switched to Salt about 18 months ago and haven't evened out my chem mojo, yet. :) Is there a better method than using a sock? I've been using my wife's old softball socks -- long - and it seems to take more than a week to dissolve. Maybe, I'm putting too much in the sock?

Thanks -- that makes sense -- since I only recently turned to salt, I wasn't sure if it were something I could do about it, as I tested and watched it shrink.

This seems to be a recent phenomenon for me -- since switching to Salt. I have to add CYA annually, as it goes down to about zip before Spring. Now, I know this has happened from not using salt tabs with stabilizer in it. I've read heat can cause this and water replacement. I know it...

I just ordered 20 lbs of CYA for 118 shipped. Stock is limited. My local store has liquid -- I'm hesitant as last time, it did not raise the levels as I had calculated. Sticking with granules.

Anyone using a gizmo to get water below the surface, other than reaching down? I've seen some deep water collector -- seems pricey for a long ladle.

Quick update: FC is at least there. It's at 26 right now. I have my SWG turned down to 25% right now to see if I can get it to level a bit. There has been little direct sunlight the last few weeks. The good news is my CYA is at 70. It's been raining a ton, so I will test it again...

THat's what I was thinking. I always save those. I use them for drying electronics -- instead of rice, too.

I keep my test kits indoors -- however, the DPD seems to cake up some for the bottom third. Any way to avoid this?

I just went through the same thing. I put ten pounds of CYA in my pool and it did nothing. It was a roaster this Summer and rained like crazy too. I just added ten pounds over the last couple of weeks and mine went from 20 to 70. I'm starting to think that store sold me ten pounds of...

I was the same way until I had a chemistry issue and when through about a quart of CYA and FC drops. :)

OK -- I have raised my CYA to 70. My FC is sky high now. I imagine the swg pumping mostly full-time, the now normal CYA levels and lack of full sunshine is the cause. I turned off the SWG for now. I need to let the FC burn off. My 35 FC is a guess as I ran out of drops. :)

Excellent. Thanks for the post. My email went to junk -- no other TF emails went there. I've been testing so often, I've gone through a year's worth of reagents in a few months.

My son and I put two socks in the skimmer and only a few hours later, they were empty -- MUCH quicker than the first two. At first, I thought maybe the socks tore open -- no holes. The first time it took about a day.

It raised my CYA 20 points. So, is it possible to get "bad" stabilizer? The other did absolutely nothing. Also, I think a combination of the CYA rising and the overcast-ness -- the SWG was at 100% -- my FC is through the roof. I knocked it down. I need to add more CYA.

I considered LC pump a year ago. Frankly, I didn't want to have monitor another aspect of the pool, ultimately installing a SWG.

I finally got the CYA - it's in the skimmer socked up -- we wait... Logged my test results.

I'm not sure how dissolved CYA "moves" in water. Is it heavier and moves toward the bottom of the pool or is it lighter and rises? Dunno. For instance, using the sock method vs throwing it in the middle of the pool to dissolve? I just follow what we read here and frankly, I've done...

Good idea. I think I'm getting low on others. Will check tonight and order.
