    +1 ^^ with Joel's recommendations. :goodjob:

    Pebble Staining Issue

If trichlor removed the stain, it is organic in nature. You should do a SLAM process and follow it to a T. http://www.troublefreepool.com/content/125-slam-shock-level-and-maintain-shockingl

If I needed to raise chlorine in a SWG pool....

Washing soda and soda ash are the same thing in that they not only raise pH, but also raise TA. We recommend Borax to raise pH because it has little effect on the TA.

If I needed to raise chlorine in a SWG pool....

A SWG pool is a chlorine pool. So, as mentioned, no problem adding bleach. From Pool School, Recommended Chemicals:

    Pebble Staining Issue

How did the CH get to 590 if the tap water is 20? Using cal-hypo? What type of brush are you using? Now that the pool is over a year old, you can use the combo brush or the s/s algae brush. Have you tested a spot with a trichlor tab to determine if it is organic? Also, I suggest you...

New home, new state, new pool!

Congratulations on your new home and pool! Use baking soda and get that TA up around 70 or 80. Once you remove the pucks, the pH will rise naturally. For a painted pool, follow info for vinyl. What is the CH of your fill water?

effect of solar cover on combined chorine

Leave the cover off and see if the sun can burn off the CC. I also suggest you do an OCLT to rule out/in organics.

    Possible Mustard Alge?

Well, I suggest you increase CYA to about 30, which will give you something you can measure and confirm. Also, pools do need to breath/outgas so you could open it up several times a week. Continue to SLAM. When you pass the three criteria, I would finish with a Mustard Algae SLAM...

Is Clarifier only for cloudy water?

Maybe you need to try to change the direction of the returns to get the water circling properly ....... needed for the top to skim. You can use ping pong balls to test how the circulation is doing. Also, do you us skimmer socks?

    Clear Water - Stained Plaster?

First, with CYA 40ish, you should keep FC between 3 and 7, and never below 3! Do you have a tree/trees dropping stuff into the pool? Have you tested the stains to determine if they are organic or metals? Rub/place a trichlor tab on the stain for a couple of minutes. If it lightens, it is...

    Pool water is cloudy

You should follow the SLAM process as mentioned by Jason. There is no need to replace the sand. Be sure to backwash/rinse when the pressure rises 25% above clean filter psi. Also, if you have not done a deep cleaning on the sand filter recently, that is recommended...

    My First Tests

First, lower the pH to 7.2ish, re-test to confirm, then add enough bleach/liquid chlorine to reach 10 ppm FC. Based on CYA of 80, keep the FC between 6 and 11, and never below 6. Hop to it

New pool, first test results with TF 100

Bostonbull, it looks like your pool suffered a pH/TA crash, which is normally due to using tabs/pucks. As Bo mentioned, you do need to address the pH and TA ASAP. Once you get he pH in the mid 7's, retest the TA before you adjust it. - - - Updated - - - oh! congrats on getting the kit :whoot:

    My First Tests

My comments in red: Is your fill water from a well or municipal water? Yes, stop using the tabs/pucks! You are more than likely going to need to do a drain/refill dance to lower the CYA and CH, but first let's wait for confirmation with your next test results. Testing will get easier as you...

First time user so be gentle!

Hey there! What is the CH #? What do you mean "heading towards shocking"? I hope you mean starting the ShockLevelAndMAINTAIN Process. :D http://www.troublefreepool.com/content/125-slam-shock-level-and-maintain-shockingl Welcome to TFP

    PH still rising

The trichlor tabs are acidic and will help keep pH lower. If you turn off the SWG, not having that aeration will also help keep pH down. Then the house/pool sitter could simply add bleach daily. Much easier to do than add acid. As mentioned, if you lower the pH to about 7.2 and apply the...

Did you finish the SLAM from May 30th? http://www.troublefreepool.com/threads/76489-Stabilizer?p=655685#post655685 Do you have one of the recommended test kits that has the FAS/DPD kit? If you have a kit (seems like I read that you do), it could be that you just maybe need to add the...

Unexplained FC Consumption - SOLVED - although the Mystery Remains

Re: Unexplained FC Consumption (updated title) Does the pump/filter run at night?
  28. Butterfly

    Zero cya?

pH is stuck at 7.2? Sounds like a good 'problem' to have :D I suggest you just forget about trying to lower the TA. Each time the pH reaches 7.8 7.4ish, just use MA and lower it back to 7.2. Over time TA will come down. Enjoy your pool! :swim:

    Safe FC range for swimming

Hi Ray  Yep, an OCLT would rule in/out organics. Tonight, I suggest you take it up to SLAM FC level, based on 50 CYA. It could just be that the CYA is closer to 35, but more testing is needed. Have you seen the CYA test video? Link in my sig. Remember you need to perform it in the...
