Would like recommendation for good defoamer.

Not to be a wise guy, but look at the cost of the chemicals versus the cost of the water to drain, rinse and refill. In situations like you're experiencing, I find it less expensive to refill than buy chemicals.

Nearly a year in to hot tub ownership... Some observations and more questions.

One thing to consider is the cost of your water versus the cost of the chemicals to keep the spa balanced and sanitary. If you're fighting the water balance, it may be cheaper to empty/refill the spa more often than normal. Just a thought!

Bromine vs trichlor tabs + cost and (hidden) downsides?

I use a small bromine tab floater to keep the bromine level stable. I find I only add 1 tablet (1" size) about every other week to keep bromine at 3-5 ppm. I do not "shock" the spa–that is unnecessary if you maintain a steady bromine level. I do test my spa water twice per week. I will...

Bromine vs trichlor tabs + cost and (hidden) downsides?

I've been using bromine tabs exclusively in my spa for over 7 years. If you follow the TFP guidelines in this article: How do I use Bromine in my spa (or pool)? you cannot go wrong. I refill my spa about every 4-5 months as we have a low bather load (just my wife and I, mostly). The benefits of...

How long to run pump/filters a day? Ph and TA problems.

What is the TA of your fill water? When did you last drain/fill the spa? here's a link to a TFP article on how to use bromine in a spa:How do I use Bromine in my spa (or pool)? Good Luck!

Why don't they make straight chlorine tablets?

Leisure Time Renew vs. Replenish for shocking hot tub?

I second JoyfulNoise's advice to get a high quality test kit. Accurate testing is the only way to properly assure your spa/pool has balanced water and is properly sanitized. I own a stand-alone spa that originally used the Spa Frog cartridges and bromine. However, after finding this website, I...

Electrical question concerning a Sundance Cameo hot tub

Not sure if I've ever seen an SWG that runs on 110V. However, do an internet search for the Sundance Spa Owner/Installation Manual. Usually there is a circuit diagram included (my Coleman/Maxx spa has one) in the manual that details the connections to/from the controller. Good luck! :study:

New Bullfrog Spa Chemistry questions/Rising pH

pH will have a tendency to rise with aeration (i.e. use of jets and air), more so if your TA is high. I had to close most of my jets to prevent a pH rise from aeration during filter cycles when no bathers are using it. This simple thing helped my spa pH be more stable. However, pH will still...

New Bullfrog Spa Chemistry questions/Rising pH

Congrats on your new spa! A few questions first: Did you start up your spa or did the pool company? What are you using to sanitize your spa–chlorine or bromine? Have you tested the fill water? Can you post your most recent test results for the spa and the fill water?

    Still confused on bromine

Yes, it is true that bromine will only go away by draining the spa. While it is used as a sanitizer, that is where the similarity to chlorine ends. Bromine will not "gas off" like chlorine. Read the Issac-1 post again to thoroughly understand the reason this happens.
