Prefer not to winterize, but can't keep up w the evaporation..am I missing something?

Sounds like you might want to do a bucket test to determine if this is evaporation or a leak.

    2018 Bleach Prices

I buy the same brand and always use 12.5% in the calculations and the pool has always responded accordingly.

    Adding Calcium Chloride

Not suggesting this, necessarily. But when I was a kid my dad always did the start up for a 6 lane 25 yard seasonal pool that got refilled from soft well water each spring so loads of calcium chloride was needed. He would just dump the bags in the deep end and have me dive down there and push it...

How much chemical to have on hand when opening

What are your current levels? It's hard to estimate how much calcium chloride, salt, boric acid, and stabilizer you would need without knowing how much you already have

    2018 Bleach Prices

I stopped by the Ocean State Job Lot here in CT recently, they've started stocking some summer time stuff but no the pool supplies yet. The website shows an advertisement for the same gallon of 12.5% 'shock' for $2.99 as last year. So I'm hoping for that when I actually see it on the shelves.

    Closing pool for 100,000 gallons

Do you have a TF-100 or Taylor K2006 test kit? Because it sounds like your test method is inadequate.

    Closing pool for 100,000 gallons

In regards to your original post on how much chemicals to buy for closing, this volume issue is pretty important. If I go on the high side for all estimates I still get a number short of 50k gallons. Which literally means half as many chemicals as you would buy as compared to if you have a 100k...

    Closing pool for 100,000 gallons

Glad everything is working out for you! Pool looks great! I know you're closing up soon but you really need to watch out for rising CYA levels next year especially since it sounds like you're going to continue using Trichlor tabs. I'd highly recommend not doing that, but it's your pool. One...

    Blowing out the lines

Because this is something I'm starting to wonder about quite a bit as this is my first season closing my pool I can't really answer your questions. But, for #1. Virtually all these tank air compressors come with a pressure regulator to set how much pressure the tool sees, usually with a max...

    Dose of polyquat for closing?

I think the advice is to use a 'opening dose' for closing. I think for you that would be about 15-16ozs. Just fyi, I looked up bioguard algae all 60 and it does in fact appear to be polyquat 60. I'm usually wary of all bioguard products because they tend to market these all in one type things...

    Super High CYA?

Did you have a pool company come to your house to close your pool last year? My very brief experience in discussing with two pool companies so far, they absolutely LOVE stabilizer no matter what CYA level you have to the point where I had to raise my voice at this guy we paid to open our pool...
