    Suction side questions

So the idea behind these as that they're difficult to block and thus minimize the chance of entrapment? Makes sense to me. Seems like an easy fix.

    Suction side questions

I have a 20x40ft 1970's era inground pool. I have 1 skimmer and 2 returns. Below the skimmer I have a plugged opening of some sort. I had always assumed that it was an old equalizer line that a previous owner had capped for safety reasons. I'm okay with that, although I do dislike having only...

    Buying a used cartridge filter

Assuming there are some tears in the filter, will it just be less efficient? Or will the water just pass through the tears unfiltered? I’m hoping to run it for a week or two before buying new cartridges and getting rid of the sand.

    Buying a used cartridge filter

Going to pick up today…the seller sent a photo showing that he pressure washed the cartridges for me 🤦‍♂️ Think they’re beat? Still a good deal for the filter tank either way…

    Buying a used cartridge filter

Yes, I saw that, thank you…my thought is that as long as nothing is cracked, even if I have to replace the filters, $600 sure beats $1600.

    Buying a used cartridge filter

Hi all, I’ve only ever used sand filters. The one I inherited with my pool is definitely a little undersized and it’s been on my list of things to replace for 5 years now. There is someone local to me selling a sta-rite system:3 cartridge filter. I’ve always liked the idea of cartridges, but...

    Replace flex PVC pipe...keep liner?

So in your opinion then, would it make more sense to just leave a leg of flex pvc and transition to rigid? Am I correct that it is not desirable to have flex pvc underground?

    Replace flex PVC pipe...keep liner?

Hello all, As part of my multi-year rehab of the old pool that came with my house, I’m having the concrete deck repaired. With most of the demo complete I’ve discovered that all of the plumbing is flexible PVC. I’m hoping to replace it while the deck is open, but the first person I spoke with...

Pool filter sizing - time to upgrade?

Newdude, sorry I wasn’t thinking. Obviously 500 sq ft is ridiculous for a sand filter. Where does the 500 come from for a cartridge filter? According to Pentair the 200 should be fine for flow. Does it have to do with cleaning frequency?

Pool filter sizing - time to upgrade?

Would that 500sq ft rating apply to both sand and cartridge filters?

Pool filter sizing - time to upgrade?

Right, and with the VS pump, 90% of the time I'm going to have pretty low flow, but would definitely overpower the current sand filter at higher pump speeds. Before I had the VS, the pump that the previous owner had would have been constantly exceeding the max gpm of the filter.

Pool filter sizing - time to upgrade?

I've been spending my COVID time slowly making small upgrades to the pool. I've straightened out some plumbing headaches and upgraded to a VS pump. The next thing I'm looking at is the sand filter. I have a Sta-rite BP-200-1 sand filter for my ~36,000 gallon pool. It was installed in 2006...

    Pump (motor) replacement

Hello all, The weather has been warm here so I decided to get a head start on pool opening. I was concerned about opening this year for two reasons. First, it's the spring after my first year closing the pool myself. Second, I stored the pump in the basement and it got pretty wet during a...
