Suction Side Air Leak - I give up

I had this last year and I FINALLY found my leak, I tried everything and what finally worked is turning the system on, and taking a water hose. You may need another person to help you if you can't clearly see your pool from the equipment pad. Take the hose and slowly run it ALL over your...

Freezing weather - drain equipment or wait?

I've had my pool a few years but still not so sure what to do in freezing weather. It seems it is happening more frequently, and happened in February last year, too! I can't decide if I should drain my filter/pump and turn everything off, or gamble that my power will stay on. If it does go out...

I can't figure out what is wrong, and the pool people haven't been helpful at all :(

This is a fairly old thread I bumped up just incase someone ended up searching for a similar issue. There were a lot of weird things going on with the pool but it seems to be running good now. My best guesses are: The slow down of the pump, and the dirty backwash water despite clear pool: I'm...

I thought I would provide an update in case anyone’s search brings them to this thread! I ended up finding the air leak today. We took a water hose and ran it over all the exposed pipe. It worked!! The leak seems to be in the joint coming right out of the pump, so NOT UNDERGROUND! When we get...

Could I have some more explanation on pressure testing? I have a small air compressor that I think can do 100 PSI, but I have no idea where to start. Also, as mentioned previously I think that I have two suction lines. One to the skimmer and one to what I think was a vacuum hookup. This pipe...

Just another update. Yesterday it got really hot and sunny so the ground was drying out quick and my pump was showing air bubbles again. Today, it rained a ton, which fixed it again. It's going to be raining even more tonight and my pool got so full (above the skimmer) from today's rain that I...

Just an update... As mentioned we had a lot of rain again yesterday. It rained all day. Today, my system is running like a champ. Everything looks exactly like it should. There is not a single bubble in my pump basket, it almost looks as if there is no water in there (there is!) I haven't had...

? Yes. I have also checked the impeller. We (mostly my dad, who is much more knowledgeable) actually opened the pump up to check the impeller when the basket wasn't holding proper water level. And I recently checked it again, with a clothes hanger wire.. nothing in there.

I wonder!! My husband had to give TP to coworker that had run completely out and was desperate, lol.

We don't have a Home Depot, just Atwoods and Lowes here :( I already do have cal hypo. I have 12, 1lb bags of In The Swim. I'll probably have to get some more if I am to slam with it.

My mom has a sams membership. But... Heres my sams, I guess? All I see is a 3pk of Clorox, or Germicidal Bleach, I don't think you are suppose to use either? Either way, both say out of stock online / in store. :( 'Chlorine' only brings up tablets.

We have three "pool stores" here. It is a small town. One is dedicated to chemicals only, and they do not sell any liquid chlorine . The other two are more geared towards parts/selling you a pool, but carry some chemicals...again, no liquid chlorine. Just pucks and powders. "Pool...

I have not! I didn't even know that you could. Where is that possible from? Everywhere I've looked just says "pick up in store" or "delivery unavailable for this product"

I can try that however the only method I have right now is using bags of cal hypo. There is not a single container of chlorine, anywhere, I call nearly daily around town. :( I currently have 12 1lb bags. Not sure how to use them either!

Right now, things seem to be running good - PSI is at 4, RPMS are at 1900. Yes, I think when things slow down my PSI jumps to around 8. Priming PSI is about 18 which I think is the true PSI you are supposed to look at on a variable speed. That never seems to change. Always 18. Last summer...

It’s raining today so here is a pic from Friday. My water looks green because my liner is stained yellow with iron :) Free Chlorine: 3.5 CCs: 0 Total Alkalinity: 40 PH: 7.2 Calcium Hardness: 25? This test is always weird for me. It never goes red. It it purple and then 1 drop turns it...

Hello, Yes. I have always only moved the valve in one direction, the same, every time. I have never moved it the opposite way. And I always turn the pump off before making any movement with the valve. I don't think I've waited very long between restarting the pump. Just a few minutes.

I can't figure out what is wrong, and the pool people haven't been helpful at all :(

My filter pressure seems to be around 8. This is actually a change from before, where my filter pressure would read 0 unless I was priming which apparently is standard for a variable speed pump and what happened all last summer. But yes, my filter pressure is unusual compared to last year too...

Didn't think about checking the gasket there. It is a really weird thing the previous owners installed, like it was just too high and they said oh well lol. I will experiment with that tomorrow.

I can't figure out what is wrong, and the pool people haven't been helpful at all :(

I don't run it at 900 :) It's just where the bubbles from the jets get very apparent. If I run it at 1300, after about an hour, the movement of water through the system and out of the jets is so low that it almost looks as if nothing is moving. That is the main issue at the moment... after the...

I can't figure out what is wrong, and the pool people haven't been helpful at all :(

So there isn’t a main drain on this pool, it seems one of those valves is the skimmer and the other one is for a pipe that seems to have been used for a vacuum. Ive closed and opened the one to the pipe and noticed no difference. I have been worried about trying to close the skimmer one incase...

I've had a problem with my pump since about the very end of the season last year and I have been trying to figure it out but I have no been successful. I am sure it is an air leak? But the symptoms have changed recently and I'm not sure anymore. So, at first, the pump basket wasn't holding...

Pump isn’t keeping prime on low speed

Here are some gifs of the pump. Today it's much worse then when I first noticed it. First day: Today. Hard to see the water level with the condensation on the lid, but it's 1/2 or less. Here is the water flow coming into the skimmer, which seems normal/as usual.

Pump isn’t keeping prime on low speed

It is not a bubble. the basket is only half full. And i’ve had the pump nearly 6 months, so it’s not normal, because it’s not done this before. There are also bubbles coming out of a return jet, which is also new. I felt the jets today and the pressure coming out is now really low.

Pump isn’t keeping prime on low speed

It has not gone dry and I’ve kept it running. The water level in the basket is just always only a little over half full, unless I run it at 2100.

Pump isn’t keeping prime on low speed

I did some more investigating today. I guess I have an air leak somewhere? Starting the pump it goes into prime mode which runs at 2900 for 5 minutes. I can see a lot of small air bubbles inside, which didn't happen before (there were some, but not like this) After 5 minutes, it drops to...

Pump isn’t keeping prime on low speed

Hi all, My pump has been great all summer and was just bought in April brand new. I’ve had a problem with it since Monday. We had a big wind storm the night before so I am not sure if that is related. My pump basket is running half full. When I first start the system it primes fine, and will...

    Looking to replace old equipment.

Okay. I highly doubt we will ever automate, so that's out! I called a few pool places around here and they really don't carry much. Just some hayward single speed pumps and one choice of filter that was $700. Small town.. How do these two items look? Amazon.com : Pentair 342001 SuperFlo VS...
