Chlorinate water without using the pump?

Put the pump in the water for circulation, Dilluted 3 gallons of chlorine, one gallon at a time, while my son stirred it to spread it around. I also brushed at the application spot. Hopefully, I don't end up with a white liner.

Chlorinate water without using the pump?

No kayak, but I do have a pump. I suppose I can run that while my son brushes and I pour in the chlorine. I'll probably dilute it in a 5 gallon bucket too (oh, and wear white). Every little bit should help.

Chlorinate water without using the pump?

I uncovered my pool yesterday and got everything ready to de-green far in advance of Memorial Day. However, when pressured started to build, water came flowing out of the connection to the heater. Evidently, a coupling cracked over the winter and there is no bypass. I have an appointment to get...

Getting Sand in Pool, brand new pool

This isn't going to help your sand issue, but you should strongly consider getting a recommended test kit so you are not under the pool store's thumb and add unnecessary chemicals to your pool.

    Sand supply

This is probably the only reason why I would go to Leslie's, but if there is a better priced pool store, I'd go there. I've heard of and seen that the sand (even if it states #20 silica) from hardware/big box stores that happen to sell pool supplies, but don't specialize in them, don't stock...

    DE filter vs Sand

    Thx for the clarification.

    DE filter vs Sand

I've only had sand, but I picked up a large bag of DE for finer filtering. This is season #5 with it. I've heard sand alone is the least effective of the three (DE and cartridge being the others), but it also seems to be the least maintenance. I see people constantly buying new cartridges and I...

    Pump Schedule

You can most likely keep your pool clear by running the pump far less than the 12 hours. Check this article out: Determine Pump Run Time: Studies have shown that a typical pool really only needs about 4 hours of run time for proper chlorination... Personal note: Last year I ran my pump from...

    Pump Schedule

Out of curiosity, why do you want to run the pump 24/7? Not only is it possible to keep your pool clean and clear by running it less, it is likely. All the documentation I had told me to run my pump at least 12 hours/day when I first inherited my pool. Last season, I ran my single speed 2hp pump...

    Green water from return jets

Welcome to the board. If the pump was running, it shouldn't all of a sudden stop filtering, unless your pressure got to about 22psi. Be that as it may, it sounds like your chemicals got out of balance while you were away and have an algae bloom.

    No flow in pump?

So nothing flows into the pump basket on Filtration? Water should be flowing from the pool into your pump and into the tank. Is your pump self-priming? If you were cleaning the grates, then there is presumably no water in the tank when it is reassembled. In a closed system air pressure may...

    No flow in pump?

    Yes.

    No flow in pump?

If I had to guess with the info provided, you shouldn't backwash immediately after you clean the pump basket. My understanding is that the filtration system (regardless of media) is supposed to be air tight and every time you allow air into the plumbing (I.e. loosen the pump basket lid), you are...

    Draining pool after heavy rain

Waste is to Backwash as Recirculate is to Filter. So you are dumping water outside the pool without the water going through the filter. My pool dumps water when set to Waste even if the pump is off. Just slower. To me, it wouldn't hurt to backwash for the first couple minutes in order to clean...

Changing my sand mid-season (post BQ conversion)

Not silly questions.the answers are: 1) No. I was unaware that there is a special wrench for the cap. Can you post a link or picture? My Father and I tried a strap wrench before we undid the 27 bolts around the belt. 2) Yes I release the pressure on the system.

Changing my sand mid-season (post BQ conversion)

Tried and tried again. It won't budge. Last time I changed the sand (removed in September 2013, Added in May 2014), I took the top off the egg via the 27 bolts surrounding the middle. Is there a special wrench to remove the black cap?

Changing my sand mid-season (post BQ conversion)

Thanks Richard. Yes the pipes enter from the side. That is my multiport valve to the left of the tank. On top is a black cap (That doesn't seem to want to budge at all) and the pressure release valve.

Changing my sand mid-season (post BQ conversion)

I changed my sand once before, but it was at the end of the season. When I close my pool, I disconnect the tank from the plumbing, so removing the the top shell from the base is easy enough at that time. Being mid-season, the tank is already connected to the plumbing. My question is do I have to...
