    Question about VSP and bubbles

A little air accumulates in the plumbing over time because it is on low. Once it goes to high, there is enough flow to flush out the air. As long as it is only for 15-30 seconds, this is normal.

Is a separate filter necessary for a boost pump?

Disregard my comments. I didn't read your post well enough to notice you weren't talking about a pool cleaner.

Is a separate filter necessary for a boost pump?

My booster pump taps into the main return line after the filter. The main pump even pushes water through my Polaris even when the booster is off. A single filter is standard and adding a 2nd one would be overkill. My pool came with a booster pump line and a Polaris when I bought the house. Why...

Any risk in running pump in 10 degree weather without a heater?

I was the OP and I drained everything. While I never expected to lose power and didn't, I'm so glad I just drained everything for peace of mind. Seeing all the Crud people in TX are dealing with, we are fortunate. My biggest issue is that the schools are closed all week and my kids are driving...

Any risk in running pump in 10 degree weather without a heater?

Your ladder is stainless steel, your pool is fiberglass. I wouldn't worry about the ladder.

Any risk in running pump in 10 degree weather without a heater?

There is a reason the pumps/filters have plugs you unscrew to let out all the water. You are correct about the pipes going to/from the equipment draining to water level when you let in the air but not the other stuff. Also, my sand filter seems to take a couple days to stop dripping water when I...

Any risk in running pump in 10 degree weather without a heater?

I just came inside from draining the water level down below the skimmer, letting air into the pipes, putting in the Gizzmo, and taking out all the plugs from pumps/filter. I basically closed the pool again except for blowing air out of the returns and capping them. My water temp is at 49 and I...

I don't think your heat tape is bodacious enough for true redneck status. Take some inspiration from these pioneers. I think you should step up your game.

You know we will start complaining in June that our pools are like a hot tub and we need to figure out how to cool them off.

Any risk in running pump in 10 degree weather without a heater?

When I first posted this question/thread, I didn't even think about being out of town this weekend when temps are supposed to be the lowest. I am just going to take out the plugs and let the water down into the pipes so all water is underground. My original question is now answered: no risk if...

Any risk in running pump in 10 degree weather without a heater?

The forecast has improved since my original post but still cold enough to take precaution. I am going out of town this weekend when the coldest temps set in so I am just going to shut off the pump, drain all the equipment, and put a tarp over everything. I am not going to do a full "winter...

Any risk in running pump in 10 degree weather without a heater?

We are supposed to get a polar vortex end of next week with temps in Memphis forecast to get as low as 10 degrees a couple nights. I'm currently doing my annual AA treatment for iron stains so I've already "opened" my pool. If I have no heater, should I be concerned with such extremely low...

Pin in multiport handle sliding out

Thanks for the suggestions and I will have to play around with it when I get some time. I may wait until I do a deep clean of the sand filter when I have the valve assembly removed. This pin has been slowly moving out over a couple years. Question: I was told years ago by a PB to only rotate...

Pin in multiport handle sliding out

Anyone know how to get this metal pin in the multiport valve handle back into place? I guess after years of turning in the same direction, it is starting to slip out. The spring is so tight that even tapping it with a hammer or rubber mallet isn't getting it to move.

    Skimmer flap stopper repair ideas?

Mine has a foam float glued to the back of it. This keeps some pressure up on the water line to make a good flow regardless of water level.

Agreed. Some good cannon balls will work really well to keep it mixed up.

Power Outage - Anything else I should be doing?

Since you don't have a SWG, the only thing you won't be able to do is filter. You can always use your brush like a spoon in a stock pot to manually mix up the water after you add FC. I would do a bit more than just splash water around and you can make circles around your pool with the brush to...

    Waste line plumbing??

Since there isn't really any pressure back on the pump for a waste line then whatever routes your water where you want it without leaking will do the trick. I never would have thought about a radiator hose but those are under pressure with heat in a car engine so I'm sure it will stand up to...

    Waste line plumbing??

No harm in having a flexible pip for a waste line as long as it doesn't leak too. Why an automotive hose and not just get a flexible vinyl tubing from the plumbing section at Home Depot?

Different return eyeball types - explanation needed

    Maybe a Leak?

Dropping only 1.5 inches in 11 days is not much at all. Most people with a leak/hole in their liner will lose an inch per day. I realize you have the solar cover on so there shouldn't be much evaporation but your water temperature is much higher than your average air temp. Hard to do the bucket...

When and how long to run pump.

All pool pumps are designed to be run 24/7 but pools do not need to be run 24/7 at maximum rpm/power. VS pumps are intended to keep the water circulating all the time while greatly reducing the energy consumption and are programmable to set a schedule. A pool pump only needs to run at a high RPM...
