    Plastering Pool tomorrow

Thanks for the info. I’m getting a colored pebble plaster. The company is having a water truck come out to fill the pool. PB said to immediately start filling it with my own water first until the water truck gets there. I read on TFP website that plaster should sit for six hours before...

    Plastering Pool tomorrow

PB is not going to be present for some reason. They haven't showed us how to start the pump and set it yet. That is going to happen on Tuesday. If we brush it over the weekend, won't the dust just settle to the bottom until the pump comes on Tuesday? Will that cause a problem? Will the...

    Plastering Pool tomorrow

The company is coming out to plaster my pool tomorrow. They say that a technician will not be out until Tuesday to begin brushing and circulating the water with the pump. Until then, I am just to add the sequester liquid to the pool and then just let it sit until Tuesday. What are you guys...

plaster on new pool-is this how it should look?

Sorry to hear about all of the issues. I will be getting my pool plastered this Saturday. Reading these posts are getting me worried. It sounds like I need to stand out there with them while they are putting the plaster on for oversight. Any suggestions that you think would help me in...

Brushing newly plastered pool, but will it be okay without doing so for 6 days

Good idea. I have heard that those floaters can stain or eat through the plaster if they sit on the stairs for a while. Should I tie it to maybe the Skimmer lid and let it float in that area to avoid it resting on the steps and causing stair plaster issues? Will it be a problem if the floater...

Brushing newly plastered pool, but will it be okay without doing so for 6 days

Our PB gave us something similar to the NPC startup guide. Will the PH and CYA damage anything (plaster finish, etc.) if it goes unchecked for a few days? I just don’t want to have permanent marks/stains on the plaster. I would keep the pump running 24/7 for those days away.

Brushing newly plastered pool, but will it be okay without doing so for 6 days

Our pool will be plastered (sunstone blue pearl-pebble finish) in a couple of days. I have read the plastering info in the pool school/taking advice from my PB. I will be brushing it twice a day for 11 days, but then I may need to be gone for 6 days. Will the plaster in the pool be ruined or...

    Seal or not seal coping

Well it will be about 1-2 weeks before the pool will be plastered. We will have a SWG with travertine coping and decking. I am on the fence to seal the coping or not while the plaster is not coming for 1-2 weeks. Any advice? I don’t want the coping to deteriorate, but I have heard that that...

Automatic Poolcover box - How smooth?

I was wondering how smooth does the bottom of the automatic poolcover box have to be to avoid any potential future tears/wear on the cover itself? We are installing a cover and the gunite box where the autocover will sit in looks rough. I am not sure if it should be smooth like trowelled...

    tadpoles in unfinished pool

My pool is under construction and due to the rain, they are not able to put the plaster on yet. Thus, gunite inground pool has a little water in it and tadpoles are in it now. Should I pour some Clorox bleach in there now to kill them out before they become frogs and lure snakes in? I know...

    Thanks for the suggestions!

    Expansion joint around skimmer?

Has anyone heard of an expansion joint around a round skimmer lid? We are having travertine pavers placed for the pool deck. Someone mentioned placing an expansion joint around the skimmer lid as well the pool beam. I know That we will need one for the pool beam but not certain that we need one...

Polymeric sand or self-leveling sealant on expansion joint?

Thanks. Will sikaflex stain the travertine stone? Someone said that it could.

Polymeric sand or self-leveling sealant on expansion joint?

I am wondering if I should use Polymeric sand or self-leveling sealant on expansion joint. I have travertine pavers going down on a dry set base. Pool PM says it doesn’t matter as long as there is a 3/8-½ inch expansion joint there. The deck builders say they often use polymeric sand between...

Travertine paver joints filled with polymeric sand or not

My travertine is 1.25” thick, laying a dry set ( 4-5” gravel; 1” sand). Yes we get frost in the winter; although it has not been too bad recently. Ground temp probably in the 20’s to teens for a few weeks.

    Material for expansion joint

I am installing a travertine paver deck on a dry set against travertine coping. What type of expansion joint materials do I need to install between the deck and coping? How much of a gap should there be? Any installation instructions would be great. Thanks.

Travertine paver joints filled with polymeric sand or not

Yes, I was thinking the same way. Yes, please ask for @bdavis466 input as well. Thanks.
  23. Q

Travertine paver joints filled with polymeric sand or not

So it sounds like having the tumbled travertine pavers installed without spacers and no polymeric sand would be best? Lower maintenance ( not having to refill the joints annually and less potential polymeric sand getting into water when it cracks). Does anyone see any issues with not having...

Travertine paver joints filled with polymeric sand or not

Are you getting polymeric sand or regular sand in between joints? If this is a older pic, do you have any issues with weeds coming in between the joints? Do you have a recent pic of the same section you can share. Thanks.
  25. Q

Travertine paver joints filled with polymeric sand or not

Thanks for the comments. Yes, I am concerned that the polymeric sand would Eventually flake out of the spaces over time, which means more will need to be placed in continuously. Does the polymeric sand help with expansion and slight movement between joints of pavers? I will have an expansion...

Travertine paver joints filled with polymeric sand or not

I’m having my 1.25” thick travertine pavers installed on a dry set base. The PB is planning to use spacers and then fill joints with polymeric sand. The pavers are pretty smooth on the sides, so I would think they would fit tightly together without having to add the spacers and the polymeric...

Travertine coping with or without grout

Good to know. The coping will lay on mortar. The deck will have a gravel aggregate and sand with travertine pavers on top tightly fitted without polymeric sand in between. So it sounds like you would go with grout in between the coping.
  28. Q

Travertine coping with or without grout

My travertine coping is being installed tomorrow around inground pool. They will give an option to have grout in between the coping or have the travertine butt up against each other. Which is better for more of a sturdy and reliable adhesion? The coping is smooth on the sides and not tumbled...

Type of mortar for SWG pool?

I am ready to place down my Travertine coping around the SWG pool. Does anyone know which "Type' of cement mortar I should use for the grout between and on the bottom of the coping? I was thinking of using the Workrite Masonry Cement Type N since it has the color that I like and would blend...

Install Travertine deck now or wait until Spring

Thanks for the suggestion. Glad to hear that they cleaned up everything. I would not want a mud pit if I can help it. I'm just waiting for the coping & tile to be set first since then hopefully the deck people can come by. I have the pool people doing the coping & tile, and another contractor...
