If you have kids I recommend swapping out the spa with more pool/swimming space and making the deep end deeper with a diving board. Just my .02

Pool startup after Tile remodel Plaster Stayed

Why did the plaster take a beating? Did you not put a tarp or something down to protect it? That’s one expensive investment to subject to a beating. Maybe I misunderstood.

    Black liner (GLI)

Sounds like you need to avoid both liners OP. That’s some bad luck Melissa. Hope they take care of you and make it right.

I will definitely confirm every step and material before we commit to anything.

He didn’t specify the sanding method. He just said “sand it.”

Plaster has Many Small Cracks. What to do?

Thanks but is a chip out necessary or is what he’s recommended ok? The only cracks are on my steps.

    Design Input - C & C welcome!

I wish we had a tanning shelf and extremely happy we don’t have a built in spa. I’d rather have separate hot tub with jets and all the works right off the patio or in a sub room. The ones I’ve been in and seen in pools just don’t seem big enough and always seem dirty. Oh and definitely go with...

Plaster has Many Small Cracks. What to do?

So got a quote for $7,500 and no chip out. If I understood correctly they drain, sand, apply a bond coat then plaster. Also fix any hollow spots. And no tile replacement. Does this seem about right?

    Patio Surface is Slick

I was thinking maybe some of the garage/shop floor paint with texture but I can’t find any that I like. Also don’t want it to look like a garage or look stupid either.

    Patio Surface is Slick

Any idea what it was they put down? I’m looking for a diy type material.

    Patio Surface is Slick

Not sure if this is the right place but... When wet my covered concrete patio is slicker than a greased pig. It’s smooth concrete. I’ve done the half splits several times just walking. What have y’all put down or recommend putting on it to make it a nonslip surface but cleanable and not porous...

Plaster has Many Small Cracks. What to do?

So a friend of mine had his pool replastered last year by a local company and highly recommended them. He said they did great work and had great customer service and my buddy is extremely picky and not afraid to tell people if he’s not happy. So if he recommends them then they’re probably good...

    Renovations on Pump/Filter Plumbing

This valves are so close together. When one goes bad or starts leaking you’re gonna have to replace all of them it looks like.

    Renovations on Pump/Filter Plumbing

I’m guessing there’s was something there and the plumber had to go around it. Or maybe he had a few too many beverages first. Who knows?

Something You Wish You had Done was...

I would agree with making your pool bigger than you think. When we were looking at buying our house I thought that pool was way too big. But when you get a bunch of people in it it shrinks pretty fast. Also add a couple of sitting areas. Ours had 2 4ft seats and works great. As mentioned above...

Pool build turned into a nightmare - travertine help

Yeah he needs to level that. That wouldn’t be fun to trip and fall on or stub your toe. Especially bad for kids

Plaster has Many Small Cracks. What to do?

Thanks I’ll get some references for the plaster. I just didn’t know if it was possible to repair it and get a couple more years out of it. Haven’t researched a replaster job yet but it just sounds expensive.

Plaster has Many Small Cracks. What to do?

It’s always full. I use the TFP method I learned on this site so I never drain it. The only drawbacks to the TFP method is that your water is so clear that you see all the imperfections.

Plaster has Many Small Cracks. What to do?

I was afraid of that. How do I find someone that can plaster? Google I guess? The local pool store is notoriously expensive.

Plaster has Many Small Cracks. What to do?

So my pool has many small cracks in the steps and the edges of the steps are chipping off. As you can see the algae loves the cracks and I can’t keep it out. We bought the house 3 years ago and best I can tell from research is the pool is around 20 years old. I use the TFP method and water...
