Considering re-plumbing for a suction cleaner

I have a suction cleaner (MX8 with Pentair 3hp VSP). One benefit I like about suction cleaners is you can leave in the pool and have it come on daily. But here's the challenge; it requires me to set my valves to allow most flow thru the suction line which is 1.5", and less flow thru my main...

Zodiac MX8 Elite vs Pentair Dorado - Can Anyone Help With Choosing?

fla, I would be interested to know how you have your valves set up for the cleaner. I also have an MX8 with singe Pentair 3hp VSP. To get the MX8 working, I have to allow more suction thru that line vs the main drain or skimmer. That means my 3hp pump is trying to suck water thru the 1.5"...

    What % to run SWG?

I have the ability to run my SWG independent of pump run time (ie, I can run pump longer than the SWG. They are on two different timers). With that said, is there any rules of thought if I should run my SWG less hours and higher %, like 80 or 100%, or is it better to run longer at lower %??

    Rownder

Re: Suction Cleaner with Pentair VS pump??????? My primary concern is not so much a comparison between the cleaning ability between robot, suction, or pressure, but with the suction requiring running my VSP at 2500 rpm's and basically having to shut off my main drain and skimmer, I'm concerned...

Suction Cleaner with Pentair VS pump???????

20,000 gal pool. Pentair 3hp VS pump. Main drain and skimmer have 2.5" lines back to pump. Suction cleaner line is standard 1.5". Currently have a Zodiac Elite MX8 suction cleaner. To get the right flow/speed for the cleaner, I have to funnel 90% of water thru the suction line at 2500 rpm's. I...

Wirning my pump, chorinator and heater question.

Most likely, your switch idea would be located at your equipment pad which is where your sub panel will be located, so I'm not sure why you could not just kill the power with flipping the breakers?? I don't think it's ever a good design to combine equipment using one breaker. The cost of...

    Critique my pool quote please!

Here's the lessons we've learned: 1. Each region has different pricing (even within a state) 2. It really does not matter what I/we think of the pricing,,,, because we're not doing the work. 3. How busy PB's are may/will impact the price. We all want pools at the beginning of the swim season and...

No Drought of Pools Built in California

I'm currently building out in North Ca and while I'm doing a fair amount of the work myself, the things I've contracted out for seem to be in high demand. I'm at the plaster stage, and my contractor is 2 wks out. He says the Drought has been no impact on business this year, and the pricing...

    Structural question

I'm not an expert, but if there's no steel on the Baja shelf, how did they electrically bond that area? I have to assume it passed the Pre Gunite inspection. Also, in the overall build cost, steel is not that expensive. You're talking about $60 in steel.

    Pool wall sitting shelf question

The low cost of additional rebar for the bench should make installation a no brainer. Can you get away with no rebar, maybe so, but why would anyone want to skimp on this element of the build. My rule of thumb is to not skimp on items that get buried :)

    Sub Pannel Question

The Easy Touch 4 is about $600. Now the question,,,,, is it worth the money, or do I just go with a basic " non auto" sub pannel. Anyone use any other brands?

    Sub Pannel Question

Input requested - Return lines height from top of form

OB doing rough plumbing. What height should I have my return lines into pool from top of form. I'm thinking about 18" top of form? What about my light can's? right now, I'm about 24" down from top of form. Should they be a bit higher? I wanted them closer to bottom vs having them up high, but...

OB - Question about adding Equalizer to skimmer

Thanks for the input. My wife is handling the equipment, although we'll most likely go with a Pentair variable speed with cart filter. Still researching. Because I'm saving on plumbing labor, I thought I'd go a bit larger on the piping. Also, because it's not a large pool, my designer only...

How does this bid look? Anything missing wrong? Needed clairification?

Not all of Ca is expensive, I'm up north (Sacramento) and I'm OB on a 15x32 sport pool, no spa. I'm just finishing the dig. Pricing really depends on what you're willing to take on. If you want someone to come in and do everything, there's a cost to that, if you want to GM the job, you'll save a...

OB - Question about adding Equalizer to skimmer

New to site - Excited about finding it. First time pool builder (15 x 32 sport pool, no spa or water features). Plan on doing Dig, plumbing, electrical, tile & equipment install myself, contract out remaining items. My pool designer had the main drains running back to skimmer using 3" line (told...
