    Orange Spots

TA is 250 or more. It turned to yellow but would not turn to red. Stopped at 25 drops. This might be a clue

    Orange Spots

Ok on the pH. Well, I see why FC is over 10. I did a quick test early and stopped counting (I could tell by the color instantly anyway that I had plenty of FC). I just did it again and stopped at 50 drops, 25 ppm and it was not yet fully clear. Then I went and looked at my chlorinator and...

    Orange Spots

I just noticed small orange spots all around the pool. They will come up with wire brush scrubbing but not easily like algae. They are spread around, no metal found in the pool. Have not added water in a long time, otherwise, just rain water. Maybe 250-500 gallons about a month ago. Pool is...

    Chlorine depletion.

mknauss is right on (I know he does not need my validation, but for a Newby getting more than 1 person suggesting the same can add assurance for you). Once you get the hang of the TroubleFreePool way, it will be so much easier and less expensive!! I would recommend that you stay out of the...

Why is water cloudy if chemicals are almost perfect ?

This is the time when SLAMming something is a good thing. :) Hopefully, it won't take too long to clear up. I often see results after a little cloudy in just one day but usually like to keep it up for two days just in case my readings were off.

Why is water cloudy if chemicals are almost perfect ?

Hmm. How much FC are you losing each day and do you have a screen and do you have direct sunlight? For me cloudy means the FC got too low and a SLAM is probably in order.

    SWG Life

Thanks for the clarification. In the end, it is still a time-cycle rather than a power variation. I think the % setting throws people off including me initially.

    SWG Life

At least for my Pentair, the % output has nothing to do with how we would normally think of a % of power. It is either on or off. When it is set to 50%, that means it will run for the first 30m of each hour.

    Bluetooth / Wifi Worth it - Dolphin / S300 vs S200

Marina pool supply called me back last night. I decided on the Pentair Warrier SE at 699 shipped and no tax. In the end, after dealing with noses, pump valves, speed settings and it taking at least 4 hours to poorly learn our pool, I think this will be a huge upgrade even without the...

Pebble Wet Edge Signature Matrix vs Quartz

We used pebblesheen, have 7 kids (lots of playing) in a sports pool and I could not be happier. Pebblesheen is the small pebbles. I was concerned about the larger pebbles being too rough. It is perfect blend of grip, smooth and beauty...

How is your Travertine doing with your Salt Water Pool?

We sealed it last year for the 1st time. I think we will try another company next time. We were trying to give it a bit more shine/color pop as it normally does when wet but if you seal it too think it could become slippery. In any case, I debated over the same that you are when we built but...

    Chemical Help Needed

Add Chlorine now to get it to 5PPM along with 30PPM worth of CYA. If you have been filling for 5 days, you may already have some algae /cloudy build up and might need to slam it. But need numbers to know. Use pool math to figure out how much chlorine to add.

Finalizing New Build in NC, need equipment advice

ajw replies are good! I would stick with one brand. I have Pentair and have been very happy. Be sure that you upsize your Salt Water Chlorine Generator. For example, if the pool is 20k gallons, get as SWG rated for 40k. You won't have to run the pool nearly as much. Pass on the sand filter...

How is your Travertine doing with your Salt Water Pool?

We have had our pool for 5 years now. Travertine has had no ill effects from SWG.

    Newly filled pool need help

Do you have a chlorine/FC test? Post all of the results that that you have. Once you get going and understand how the 3 primary chemicals work together, it really is easy and trouble free. Don't be tempted to go to the pool store, have them test and then buy a bunch of chemicals they recommend.

I spent the same but got a lot more and exactly what I wanted include pool equipment, automation, design, etc.

    Narrowing Down PB and Design

Is there a reason that you don't want the main drains. I think they were required in our build. I don't know the answer to your question as to if one or the other will be better. I have two main drains and I am glad I have them. It does a great job circulating, including our solar heater but...

    Narrowing Down PB and Design

Main drain. I am happy I have it since it helps with total circulation of the water. If you only have a skimmer, water is only being pulled from the top of the pool and the jets are near the top too. Therefore, I think the bottom drains help to turnover all of the water more thoroughly/quickly.

    Bluetooth / Wifi Worth it - Dolphin / S300 vs S200

My pool area is pretty small and I have a pool toy box that the power supply and cable can be stored in while in and not used, so I don't need the caddy. The main reason I asked is related to if the automation features are something that people use or are just nice selling ideas and gimmicks...

    Narrowing Down PB and Design

For #6: If I recall, quartz is less expensive and may be a fancy name for basic plaster finish that everyone is familiar with. After having a Pebblesheen pool for 5 years now and having the traditional while plaster finish in the past, there is no way I would do a pool without PebbleSheen if I...

    New pool (pool store recommendations)

Based on those results, it was as if mknauss knew exactly what was needed. Just follow these instructions and you will be fine. Use Pool Math to determine how much of each. The CYA (also sold as Pool Stabilizer), chlorine and acid can be purchased at local big box stores. You don't need any...

    New pool (pool store recommendations)

It is possible that they don't even know that a pool does not need all of those things. They are trained by the manufacturers on what is needed and why. If they give you some chemicals now, it sets the pattern that more chemicals are needed later. When my pool opened up, I went to the pool...

New Salt Water Pool - pH Craziness

When my pool was new, (about 10k gallons), I had to add 2-4 cups of acid daily to keep it in range. That lasted for to one degree or another for 6 months or so and then started to lessen. Now, my pool is 5 years old add acid a few times a week, maybe less. It is much more stable and I don't...
