There are some testers out there that can test specific things, like pH, but not an all in one tester. Not to mention they can be expensive, and need periodic calibration. Using a test kit, like a TF-100 or a K-2006, is far more accurate and cost effective.

I use those 4 packs of Hasa chlorine as well. That one of the 4 chemicals I buy from our pool store. Takes me about 8 days to use it all in the summer.

Try to maintain the water level about halfway up the skimmer opening. Higher than that is OK, but you will lose the ability for the skimmer to actually skim the surface.
