    Cyanuric Acid smoothie

Nice. My water is still too cold for this to work effectively, and the blender was much faster, and more fun. Lol.

Lol. I have a Margaritaville Machine for those.

    Cyanuric Acid smoothie

So, I've had a nylon sock filled with granular stabilizer hanging in front of a return jet for a week and it's barely dissolved (the water is 46f). In an effort to add CYA faster (because I'm impatient), I put some in a jug, added hot water and stirred vigorously and left it out overnight in my...

    Drain very green pool?

Is it greener than mine was a couple weeks ago? 3 days of SLAM and filter and it was clear. Check out the before and after pics in poat #4 in the thread below. Thread 'Should I just throw these filters away?' Should I just throw these filters away?

Should I just throw these filters away?

Just a smidgen cloudy. I had a couple spots on the liner that needed more brushing and when I brushed them it clouded up a bit.

Should I just throw these filters away?

Thanks. It took 3 days. SLAM and cartridge filter. I probably could (should) have cleaned them earlier / more often and I may have seen clear water much sooner. I used to have a sand filter and there is no comparison in my mind. If I opened with cloudy water, it was sometimes upwards of a...

Should I just throw these filters away?

After 3 days of killing algae (see my other post - 2nd pic here is the SLAMed and filtered result), I'm cleaning the filters. I've currently cleaned one (on the right). Should I just throw them away, or will any algae I don't get out be killed by the chlorine? Thanks.

    Is this a decent sequestrant?

I've (hopefully) attached the SDS as well. https://www.poolsuppliescanada.ca/eclipse3-enforce-stain-and-scale-remover-1-l.html

    Is this a decent sequestrant?

Maintenance dosing to keep metal staining at bay.. My white stairs turn brownish if I don't do this. Brand is Eclipse 3 (it's what the pool store has - I wasn't looking for this brand specifically). Thanks.

    Is this a decent sequestrant?

Sodium Salt of 1 Hydroxyethylidene-1.1-Diphosphonic Acid I see 'phosphonic' which I think is good. What is the salt part? Thanks.

Green to Almost Clean in 24 hrs.

Thanks. Fortunately, shortly after having the pool built in 2007, I found TFP and so managed to avoid Pool Store magic potions almost since year 1..

Green to Almost Clean in 24 hrs.

Totally agree. I close late October or even November, and open late March or very early April. That's why I'm perplexed about the algae this opening. It's never happened before.

Green to Almost Clean in 24 hrs.

I usually open April 1st, but it's mild here and looks that way until the end of March. I have opened before with ice on the water. Lol. Agreed that despite my clear water at closing, I must have had unseen algae. I didn't think algae could spread like that in cold water, though. It's...

Green to Almost Clean in 24 hrs.

Thanks. I used to have a sand filter and if I had cloudy water at opening it would sometimes take a week to get really crystal clear. Cartridge filter is much more efficient. I'll admit, though, with the sand filter, backwashing was much easier than taking the cartridge filter apart and...

Green to Almost Clean in 24 hrs.

Burlington, Ontario, Canada. Opened on March 20. First time in 14 openings (15 years of pool ownership) that I had algae. Not sure why this time (Covid? Lol). It was a slimy layer completely covering the floor of the liner until I brushed it and ended up with the green soup you see in the...

    Taylor kit in Canada?

Try Amazon. https://www.amazon.ca/TAYLOR-TECHNOLOGIES-K-2006-CHLORINE-FAS-DPD/dp/B004BGF7TI Or contact Lowry & Associates (who I think (used to be??) the only authorized seller of Taylor products) and they may be able to direct you to a pool store that they work with who can order you one...

2-phosphonobutane-1,2,4-tricarboxylic acid - stain and scale

Found a stain and scale product that contains this stuff - 2-phosphonobutane-1,2,4-tricarboxylic acid. Is this a good thing? I find with the current stain and scale I'm using (Sani Marc 3 Met 0) = 1) Doesn't seem as effective as other brands I've used, and 2) Seems to consume chlorine as...

Why no equipment shed for the westerners?

I'm up in Canada, and had the pool installed in 2007. No shed, and the pump, filter, heater, everything was left out all winter for four seasons with no problem. In 2011, I built a nice shed over the everything. Everything is still working perfectly as of this season (I replaced the Tristar...

Hayward Maxflow VS or TriStar VS to replace Super II

You can set the maximum rpm on the variable speed Tristar, so I don't think you need to worry about the priming being too powerful for the filter. You can also forego priming totally and just have the pump start at a given rpm.

The Physics of Freezing and Freeze Protection

I've read through this thread and may have missed it, but would the level of salt in a salt water pool affect the temperature that the water will freeze? Say a level between 3000 and 4000 ppm? Thanks.

Pros and Cons of Sand vs Cartridge Filters???

Sand typically removes down to 20-40 micron-sized dirt and debris. Cartridge is 10-15 microns. I've used both sand and cartridge and my experience is the opposite of yours.

Pros and Cons of Sand vs Cartridge Filters???

Your original post shows you've had a cartridge filter for 8 or 9 years. Have you ever changed the cartridge? That might be the first place to start. Even with regular cleaning, eventually the cartridge just gets too much debris embedded in the media and needs to be replaced (or you have a...

Hayward Ecostar 3400SVP pump Drive Error

I had a single speed Tristar installed in 2007 and it was running perfectly when I replaced it last summer with a variable speed Tristar ($400 rebate from the Hydro company made it hard to refuse). I've looked at the manual and wiring for the Tristar and the Ecostar and they are completely...
