Strange and very bad corrosion on motor

No automation, no. I prefer as simple as possible. I am going to call the vendor I bought the motor from. If I can return the motor in exchange for buying a new pump/motor from them, they may take that.

Strange and very bad corrosion on motor

No returning the motor at this point. I will have to use this motor until something irreparable happens to this new motor or the pump, whichever comes first. Lets say I am ready to do replace it all. If I could do a complete replacement, what would you recommend?

Strange and very bad corrosion on motor

@JamesW is it possible for me to get a new-ish pump housing that is a bolt-on to this USN1102 motor? Can you recommend anything? My pool is small (9K gals) and I live in TX. The size of the pool should not need anything more than a single-speed 1 HP motor like the USN1102 I just put on to the...

Strange and very bad corrosion on motor

JamesW - tell me how your really feel!! I hear you. I will likely need to change this the next time the motor fails me.

Strange and very bad corrosion on motor

While swapping out my motor because the bearings were making an awful racket, I came across this mess (see attached photos). Is this corrosion because something failed in the shaft-seal assembly or I installed it wrong? I put this motor in myself about 4 years ago. When I opened this up, the...

    Pool motor screeching noise

My pool motor recently started screeching. Hopefully you can listen to it with the short 10-second video in the link below. I am thinking the bearings are going out (?), but want to know if there is something I can do to repair or fix vs. buying a new motor. I believe the motor is only a few...

Replacement for a Hayward Northstar pump body

Automation? I don't believe so. I have a standard setup with an old-school Intermatic mechanical timer, etc. No smart switches or smart stuff operates the equipment.

Replacement for a Hayward Northstar pump body

I will very likely do that, considering the age. But, a direct replacement is for all practical purposes, not an option, as this is a discontinued pump housing. Any thoughts on what would be suitable as a replacement pump?

Replacement for a Hayward Northstar pump body

Looking ahead to a possible replacement of what has to be a 20 or more years-old Hayward Northstar Pump body. The current pump body has some pinhole/hairline cracks that are leaking in the neck area of the discharge port. When I disassemble it, the inside of the discharge port has what I would...

Questions about Amerlite fixture, LED bulb replacement and shorting/tripping

@ajw22 if I understand you correctly, that surprises me a bit. The pool water is better at carrying off thermal heat than air, no? Still, the whole thing is gonna get replaced. Per folks comments here, this thing is past EOL. I think I am left with, "Will it be ok to put an LEB bulb in a new...

Questions about Amerlite fixture, LED bulb replacement and shorting/tripping

Thanks @1poolman1 ... I did not mention in my original post that this Amerlite unit is at least 13 years old, and could be as old as 20+ years. Pool was put in in 1998, I think, and I have owned home since 2008 and have not replaced this fixture as long as I have owned the home. The more...

Questions about Amerlite fixture, LED bulb replacement and shorting/tripping

I have an old(er) Amerlite pool light housing that I have put a standard LED PAT38 outdoor flood light into. The bulb is GE brand, 32W outdoor PAR38 bulb, one color (daylight), 3,000 lumens. It is plenty good for our 9,000 gal pool. It does what I want. Since it is LED and only 32W, it does not...

    Blocked skimmer return...

I have a blocked skimmer return. I have tried using CO2 to push it out from the pump intake end, and back to the skimmer. The gas bubbles come out at the skimmer (quite vigorously), but it does not dislodge the blockage. So, when I turn on the pump again, there is very little suction at the...

Replacing pool & spa light diy

I am in the same boat. Replacement fixture is on the way. I have watched videos, and am pretty certain I can handle the simple re-wiring. The wire pull, while looking straightforward, is definitely the riskiest part. And, I have not looked in the niche yet, but I did see one video of a spa light...

    Stenner pump stops moving fluid...

Problem solved...after eliminating the pump itself as an issue (using a new little piece of suction line inserted into a jar of water), i replaced the suction line into the tank. When I removed the old one, the pinch point where the weight/anchor grips the tubing was brittle and snapped. Once i...

    Stenner pump stops moving fluid...

I maintain my Stenner pump by replacing the white tube inside the unit periodically. Today, seeing some algae in the pool, I checked my chlorine. ZERO. Usual diagnostics lead me to my Stenner not moving fluid. Checked the intake line and the output line. Neither is clogged. Injection head is...

    Stenner not pumping bleach...

I have had this issue for a while now, and it baffles me. I've had the Stenner 100 psi 3 gpd pump for a little more than a year. Installed in May 2015. Worked well initially, but now I am convinced it's not injecting into my main line downstream of my filter. Here are some specifics: 1) Pool...

    "Shelf life" of bleach...

I have a Stenner pump hooked up to a 15 gal storage tank (it is dark opaque plastic, not transparent). I have been having trouble maintaining my FC level, and wonder if bleach, once opened out of the bottle and put in a tank, degrades. I can do a test of the bleach itself easily enough, but...

Time of day to add bleach for proper FC maintenance...

I live near Houston, so it's getting warm and sunny down here. I have a 3 gpd Stenner pump with an electronic timer. I use liquid 8.25% bleach. I am having some difficulty maintaining a FC level that I consider acceptable. Water stays clear, but mustard algae (??) starts to form on the shady...

    Stenner Questions

Stenner bleach injection system is installed and working. It is very cool. Install of the equipment itself was very very easy. Hardest part was finding an electrician to do the small job of hooking up the digital timer to my electrical panel and running that to a plug that I plug the Stenner...

    Stenner Questions

Ok, no change. Hooking it up on suction or discharge makes no difference. Paperwork that came with flow indicator says hook it to discharge side, so that's the way I will leave it. So, that leaves me with two possibilities, I think: 1) The flow indicator isn't rated for 3 GPD pumps (the most...
