    Done with the SWG

Hi Dave, I use your TFP 100 kit (think that was it anyway?) and have been getting all my testing supplies from you....need to order some more CYA reagent (as well as some other stuff), but for the meantime, are there any conditions that would give a false high CYA reading? I read some threads...

    Done with the SWG

Okay.... -Salt is back up to 3250-3500ppm for the past few days. -On Boost....unit test shows 28V and 5.4-5.7 amps (amps seem to jump around a bit but this seems about right going into our 4th season, correct?) -FC: 7.5 in the pool -FC: 8.5 at the SWG -CC: 0 -TA:100-110 -pH: 7.2-7.5 (closer to...

    Done with the SWG

I didn't realize you had posted, Sean, but I was just about to come back and say I was going to give it one more shot. I hate not figuring something out....like an unsolved puzzle...it was really going to bug me. So I just picked up 160 lbs of solar salt. I'll report back after it's back on line...

    Done with the SWG

I struggled all last summer and never was able to get our SWG able to handle chlorine production on its own. aquapilot-sc-48-can-t-keep-up-with-fc-demand-t22288.html I've decided I'm just going to bag it this year and unplug the thing. I figure I'll save a ton on electricity by being able to...

    Spill-Less Clorox not real bleach

Made the same mistake last week! Asked TBH to grab a half dozen jugs of generic bleach, but they only had two, so she got Clorox instead. (2 regular and 2 "Splashless". I used one of them and all of a sudden sudsy film on the water. :grrrr: Couldn't for the life of me determine what caused...

AquaPilot SC-48 can't keep up with FC demand

OK...so last night FC did NOT hold. Dropped 1ppm from 5 to 4. Can pollen create this sort of demand?

AquaPilot SC-48 can't keep up with FC demand

OK, I ran the pump/SWG for 12 hrs from 7pm to 7am @ 100% power setting 3 and the FC went up 1.5ppm (from 5.5 to 7.0) I pulled the cell yesterday afternoon and did notice a very slight hint of erosion on the outer plates, not much at all and I don't think I could quantify it but obviously it was...

AquaPilot SC-48 can't keep up with FC demand

Re: SWG can't keep up with FC demand Well, I always have trouble trusting my eyes with the CYA test, but I'm pretty sure it's between 70 and 80. I had two other people confirm on two different tests. I think I am going to do a reverse-FC hold test tonight, ie run the pump/SWG all night and see...

AquaPilot SC-48 can't keep up with FC demand

Re: SWG can't keep up with FC demand While in Boost Mode, the Test shows 29 Volts - 6.1 Amps. There doesn't seem to be any chalky residue or buildup on the cell plates. Looks pretty clean.

AquaPilot SC-48 can't keep up with FC demand

Re: SWG can't keep up with FC demand Thanks Jason. I'll run the test when I'm back home. The plates were clean at start up about 2 1/2 weeks ago. Is this something that could have built up over that time period? I have always added bleach at times, for shocking or when I knew my settings...

AquaPilot SC-48 can't keep up with FC demand

I opened the pool about 2 1/2 weeks ago when the water temp was about 50 F. The water was clear, but just a tad cloudy in the deep end so I shocked and ran the pump 24/7 for the first four days. The water cleared and had a successful overnight FC test (no loss). I then adjusted CYA to about 75...

    Is there no tech support?

We had a problem with our PoolPilot sensor this summer. The unit was still under warranty, so I called customer support. The gentleman I spoke to was knowledgeable and helpful and they arranged to have someone from our pool company who installed our pool (and SWG) come out and swap out the...

    Suddenly Cloudy Water

Sodium Hypochlorite is fine to use in SWG pools. It is actually the same thing that your SWG is making. Depending how long you've had the 12.5% and where you have stored it, it may have lost strength. Just buy regular bleach...same stuff but 6% SodiumHypo Your CYA is too low and your SWG could...

tear in pool, drain to fix or not

Look for the Boxer brand patch kit. I patched a tear about that size, two feet below the waterline. I didn't have any problems with glue in the water or anything. You just cut your patch, making sure it is round and leaving an inch or so around the tear. Apply the glue to the patch, fold it...

    It's official. I am cursed.

Right there with ya! We live in the Monadnock region. This really stinks. I think they are reclassifying New England as a temperate rain forest! I did some draining a week or so ago, brought it down a bit too much I thought at the time. Filled right back up again. The ferns, however, in the...

    Honey Bees

Thanks, GooseRider! Great info! At risk of hijacking the thread...I have a question about honey bees. We too have started seeing a number of them around the pool, increasingly so over the past two summers, which we were very happy about knowing the present situation of the population. We have...

keeping 'gunk' on cover out of pool

Most of the debris we get falls in just as we're rolling in the last of the cover. I've tried picking up the last five feet or so and doubling over as you take it out. Then use the hose to wash that down. We've had marginal success with that, and you need some extra space. The best for us is to...

    Painting concrete deck.....

Personally, I have never liked painting concrete, especially exterior concrete. Once you paint it, you can't go back. It can peel and be a real headache down the road. Not sure what yours looks like, but maybe a power wash and then clear sealer coat.

To cover or not to cover...that is the qustion

I think I would tend to agree, esp if clear (or nearly so) cover. With the cover and the heat pump working today, the pool temp rose about 12 degrees since first thing this morning.

To cover or not to cover...that is the qustion

Solar blanket at night, cold, cloudy days etc....of course. But what about a day like today when nobody is in the pool (yet)and I want to maximize heat gain. Cover: actual triangle bubbles are clear, material connecting bubbles is light translucent blue, not sure of thickness Air:90 degrees...

I know this may be a dumb question but...

Regarding the SWG... With water temps in the 50's, our system seemed to max out at about 30% output . From 60-65 degrees about 65% output. So it is producing, just not as much. If the pump is running anyway, I'd go ahead and start your SWG

I know this may be a dumb question but...

I'd put the solar blanket on too now. The overnight freeze won't be a problem, and I don't think your pool would be harmed if you didn't put it on...but it will help from losing heat. And its going to be in the 80's near the end of the week!!

    glow sticks

Here's a detailed report on Chemiluminescent Glow Sticks. They seem pretty harmless. http://archpedi.ama-assn.org/cgi/reprint/156/9/901.pdf We put a bunch of rings in last year. Kids had a blast.

Spring pre-opening woes - algae threat?

If it were me I'd open ASAP. I don't see the water temp going down any at this point. If you have the time to do it now, the only downside I see is the cost of running the pump an extra couple weeks. Upside to opening now... You have enough time to get it balanced, kick on the heater for a bit...

    Difference in salt pellets

I've been wondering how long the pellets take to dissolve....now I know. Much faster than I expected. Not a useless question at all.
