    How screwed am I?

Well, it looks like we're not out of the woods yet. Although I have cleared the blockage, I'm still not getting as much pressure as I'm used to, and the pump basket isn't filling up the whole way. Did I damage the pump motor when it overheated?

    How screwed am I?

My apologies for the confusion. Let me try to add some clarity... I was never doing anything on the pressure side, it was always suction side, either by the pump/motor/filter, or in the skimmer itself. The first thing I tried was attaching the thing I put in the skimmer to close the pool (I...

    How screwed am I?

Right, I get what you are saying, I tried pushing air both directions, and no luck... So, if I do dig out the pipe, I'm assuming I need to dig the whole way to the skimmer and replace the whole thing up to the bottom of the skimmer?

    How screwed am I?

I was pushing the hose in the pipe from the filter side.

    How screwed am I?

So, I took off the impeller housing, and there were a couple pine needles in there, nothing too crazy... Turned it on and same thing... Then I put the ShopVac on blow at the skimmer and blew towards the pump and a little water came out and then nothing, no air or anything... If I stop the shop...

    How screwed am I?

Roger that... I'll check the impeller shortly and then if it's still messed up, I'll try the hose trick. Thanks @Texas Splash and @oldprophet.

    How screwed am I?

That was definitely loose, I didn't snug it up, but it didn't resolve the issue... The sound of the motor makes me think something is stuck in the impeller... I'm going to take that apart next.

    How screwed am I?

I don't have any shut off valves... :)

    How screwed am I?

It is for the SuperPump. The motor is fairly new, maybe 2-3 years I'm guessing... Pool water is about half way up the skimmer, so definitely within range I like to keep it. I just checked the Weir door, thinking that was the easy fix, but it's definitely moving and not stuck I'm not sure which...

    How screwed am I?

So, I left my pump run overnight last evening and I looked this morning and the water was still moving like normal, and then around 10am or so, I looked out and the water wasn't moving. Upon inspection, there wasn't any water moving in the pump either and it had lost prime. I turned it off, and...

Asking for my new neighbor who is a pool newbie, having issues with his inground pool...

Working on the SLAM now. I tested last night and FC was 7 and CC was 1. It’s still the same this morning, but in checking the CYA chart for FC for slam level, it’s recommending a FC of 16. That seems really high. Wouldn’t that take a long time for that to come down to safe levels for swimming?

I forgot to mention, I don’t see any algae anymore, but the water remains cloudy.

Asking for my new neighbor who is a pool newbie, having issues with his inground pool...

My new neighbor is having some flow issues with his pool pump, and I was hoping to help him out. When we opened it for the season, there was a significant amount of algae to deal with, which he has cleared, but now the flow on the pump seems to be low. He has removed the cartridges twice and...

    Problems with pool pump...

Man, I'll tell you. If it's not one thing, it's another. The motor ran just fine for about 2 hours. Got chlorine in and turned it off to bump it. Turned it on, and it was more noisy then normal. If I let it run, it would run about 10 seconds then pop the breaker. I took the basket out and the...

    Problems with pool pump...

I ripped out all the switch components, box, switch cover, etc. Cut the wires a little shorter and put all new components back on, and everything is working swimmingly. The switch box had a bunch of earwigs inside, and the wirenut on the neutral had actually melted a little. Not good. I also...

    Problems with pool pump...

Well, what do you know, I haven't confirmed yet, (have to go buy parts) but I took apart the switch and it was a mess in there. A black with green tape around it and a white with green tape. Two white tied together as you would expect, but the wire nut had melted. So yeah, I cut it all out and...

    Problems with pool pump...

I loosened the capacitor and took one cable off at a time, and put it on the same lead on the new one. Thinking that should work. Nothing. No hum, nothing. I'll take the switch apart and check things in there, but I don't understand how this pump has run this way for a long time with no...

Yes, I can. I'm at work now, so I'll post some later today. Thanks for helping me out with this.

    Problems with pool pump...

Yes, the power runs to a switch, which then runs to the motor. I got my readings with the motor powered on, to see if I was getting any power at all at the unit. I did so, off the screws under the cover on the back of the motor. So, power comes in from the switch, is screwed down inside the...

    Problems with pool pump...

It's connected to 120V. I thought I followed the wiring diagram on the back of the unit, but if you are saying something is off, then maybe I made a mistake. -Mark

    Problems with pool pump...

Well, now I'm really lost. I got a new start capacitor, and changed it out. Still nothing. I took a volt meter to the pump and if I hold the leads to hot and neutral, I get nothing, but hot to ground, I'm seeing 120V, neutral to ground, 120V. Not really sure what to do next.

    Problems with pool pump...

So yesterday, I went out to turn my Hayward Pump on. Shortly after I did so, I heard a pop, but the motor kept going. I went over to look at the motor and some smoke was coming out. I quickly turned off the motor and took a day to clear my head since I seem to be stuck in a rut of things...

Helping neighbor open their neglected pool

Well, we've been hitting this pool hard for a week, and from what we can tell, the what is still the greenish, cloudy mess. We have been putting bleach in everyday to keep it up where it should be, but there seems to be no change. Am I doing something wrong? Thanks, Mark

Helping neighbor open their neglected pool

Thought I would log back in and give an update. We tried to vacuum the "dark" stuff out, and noticed that dirty water was being blown back into the pool. Since this was a new house for them, and we didn't know the history of the cartridge filter other then it was put in on '06, we could only...

Helping neighbor open their neglected pool

Greetings folks, you guys have always helped me with my own pool, but now I have turned the lessons you've given me, and am trying to help my neighbor open their pool. A little back story: They bought the house the end of last summer, and since the season was all but over, they left it closed...

    Hayward Pump won't spin

I got the back off, and there is a lot of corrosion back there. I'm not able to get the screw off the capacitor to gain access to the shaft bolt. I'm thinking I'm pretty hosed here and will be looking at replacing the motor entirely. On a side note, I've watched a bunch of Super Pump related...
