    Fence Height???

Is this the only fence around your pool area? If so, check local codes for min fence height. Besides that, I think either would look great.

Green on bottom, chemicals all in range, is filter working?

I am not sure if you have a filter problem or not. I can tell you, though, that you should be shocking your pool since you have algae growth. I would vacuum to waste to remove as much algae as possible and then shock until you pass an overnight FC test. I seem to remember reading or being...

Pool about to overflow from heavy rain

You should always test your water after a heavy rain regardless of the pool overflowing and make necessary adjustments.

Going to start the conversion this Sunday

I would keep making bleach additions until the water is clearer. The CC will burn off regardless, and I wouldn;t want to lose the momentum, particularly since the deep end is still very murky. Great progress! Keep it up and you will be through in no time.

    Pool build find.....

Interesting what people find during a pool build.

Going to start the conversion this Sunday

FYI - I wouldn't waste the reagents testing for CC at this point. Only test for FC until your water clears, then worry about CC.

1st Time Pool Owner Long Time Dad - Not Sure Which is Harder

Welcome to TFP . You have definitely come to the right place to learn about caring for your pool! Your pool will be sparkling clear all summer long if you follow the advice from these experts.

Going to start the conversion this Sunday

That smell is the CC. It will go away once you get the CC down towards the end of the conversion.

you are going to love this...

Every time I go to the LPS to pick up an o-ring or other part, I feel bad for the people buying all the junk. I not-so-fondly remember those days and wonder how many cool toys (like SWG, solar cover reel, variable speed pump, and probably more) I could have bought with all of that money I...

Did everything and still same results

Welcome and Happy 4th! Ditto what Richard said. A good test kit is a must. Second - there is a moderator around here named frustratedpoolmom. The frog mineral system is what led to her name. I know the frog system was not cheap, but I would ditch the frog for good old fashioned bleach if I...

Going to start the conversion this Sunday

Congratulations on the best decision you could have made. My wife was also skeptical about converting (I don't like chlorine smells, my hair will turn green, chlorine dries your skin out :blah:). I took the time to help her understand the very basics of chlorine (chlorine smells come from CC...

Deionized water - where to find it?

Deionized is not the same as distilled water. The distillation process does not remove all ionic salts, just a majority of them. To be truly deionized, the distilled water needs to be run through a resin bed to remove the remaining impurities. Waste - did you check with your local pharmacies...

    Test Results

Why the algaecide? If you maintain FC levels in the target band, there is no need for algaecide. Particularly with crystal clear water. That is the beauty of the BBB system.

    new numbers....still cloudy.

Pool store analysis are notoriously inaccurate. And, time at the pool store is time that is either spent trying to NOT buy the chemicals and quick remedies they want to sell you or time that could be better spent.....like swimming. You really need to invest in a good test kit. The TF-100 is a...

TC = FC + CC. Did you test for CC and get 0, or are you assuming your TC = FC?

Pool unopened for 3+ years, need some help!!!

Since your CYA is showing <20 after 10 days, I would recommend adding enough by hanging the sock in front of the return line to increase CYA by 20ppm. That way, if it is close to 20 ppm, you won't end up with unmanageable levels of CYA. And, I agree with Grape Ape. You probably lost whatever...

Just fiilled the pool and Numbers are wacky. What to do?

How much chlorine, and what type, did you add? Don't worry about pH right now since at high levels of chlorine your pH test results are not accurate. I am not sure about the other test results, like TA though. I wouldn't add anything until chlorine comes down quite a bit and you can actually...

    Post Alage confusion, questions.

My two cents.... I would turn the SWG off, finish shocking using bleach and get your water clear. After that, worry about salt levels and CYA and begin using the SWG. Have you taken a sample to your LPS to test for CYA? I would be curious to see what they get for a reading and compare it to...

    Unfilterable cloudiness

Having a CC reading is indicative of there being an organic (ammonia) compound in the pool that has combined with chlorine to create chloramine. CC has little, if any, sanitizing abilities and needs to be removed. You need to maintain FC at shock levels to burn off the CC, as well as any other...

I am on day 2 of my baq-chlorine conversion

No worries. Even if baq levels were 0 by the pool store test, you still have some level of baq in your pool. Just to reinforce what the others have said said....you need to get a test kit. It will be very hard to manage the conversion and your pool afterward without one. Most people here...

Which is faster conversion time-- BBB or SWG?

I second the recommendation to order the TF-100XL from tftestkits.net. Dave's customer service is second to none and he usually ships the same day you place your order. He also offers fedex next day as a shipping option, which would get you the test kit even quicker. I wouldn't wait for the...

    Fine Tuning With BBB

jcmac - once per day should do the trick. Test your water in the evening, use the pool calculator and aim for the top of the recommended FC levels for your CYA, and make your addition.

    New User

My only recommendation with the numbers you posted is to lower your CYA. Drain and refill to get this down. After that, stop using the pucks and switch to bleach. Shock the pool until you pass the overnight FC test, and enjoy your crystal clear water.

    Fine Tuning With BBB

Yet another reason to come to TFP. My vocabulary improves daily on this site :-D. I started off testing twice daily (am and pm) until I "leraned" my pool's patterns. I now test every two days and make a chlorine addition daily. I guess it all depends on your comfort level, the stability of...

Which is faster conversion time-- BBB or SWG?

Conversion to BBB or SWG will both take the same amount of time. In either case you need to add bleach to 15 ppm chlorine and continue adding bleach to maintain 15 ppm through the conversion. I highly recommend following the directions for a conversion in the pool school articles. If you are...

    CYA Test Accuracy

Disclaimer - There is a proper and accepted way to perform CYA testing that will maximize the accuracy for the home user. I am NOT questioning the need to properly test for CYA. But..... There always seems to be a lot of fretting regarding performing the CYA test. Understanding the ideal way...

Question About Adding Baking Soda & Borax

Tell your hubby that since you saved money by deciding to be a jug dumper and not buy the SWCG, you have more than enough money to buy the TF-100 test kit .
