Moss Rock weeping wall 10 years later with pics - what I learned...

Suz, I found the album in Picture Trail and supplied a link. There are other pics on a CD somewhere but can't locate it. The pool was supposed to be bigger but there is a 10' easement running across the entire back yard so had to settle for what it is. The backhoe actually barely nicked the main...

Pool chemistry numbers, still have high CC

That's something I didn't think of! Thanks. I removed the light and cleaned all the junk out of it. They left a lot of stuff in there when they installed it 10 years ago. Didn't notice anything horrible algae wise but vacuumed and cleaned it out with the pool blaster and a brush.

Pool chemistry numbers, still have high CC

Ok I'll hold off. Have a Color Logic light but doesn't work anymore and conduit is crushed apparently so no light from here on out unfortunately. I am vigorously brushing with the steel brush. Quite the workout!

Pool chemistry numbers, still have high CC

SWG is set to 0% Keypad said chlorinator off. Ok I will test again this evening and see where the FC and CC is, then do an OCLT in the morning. LOL the wife is not liking these high FC levels. She says it's hard on her swimsuit! I am determined to get this resolved though. I'll pick up more...

Pool chemistry numbers, still have high CC

I guess I am confused. I went by the chart per SLAM procedures; I actually exceeded that. 40% of CYA would be 12 for a CYA of 30. I did 28 PPM and after 4 days it was still above the recommended shock level per the chart. It actually still is above the level for 30 CYA. Maybe I need to raise...

Pool chemistry numbers, still have high CC

I turned the SWG off as chlorine levels were greater than the recommended shock level for 4 days after dosing. The recommended shock level for 60 CYA is only 24 and at a CYA of 30, my shock level exceeded that for 4 days. At a CYA of 30, the non SWCG is only 12 and I am still exceeding that value.

Pool chemistry numbers, still have high CC

I have been battling a small outbreak of black algae on the entry steps - the 2 steps closest to the water surface. 9 days ago I added a minimum amount of copper algaecide (9 ounces) and began scrubbing the whole pool with a stainless steel brush. There appears to be no trace of any remaining...

DE through returns on pump start-up

Thanks for the replies. The pump does stay primed when not being used. I turned the pump off and waited about an hour and when I turned it back on, no DE came out this time. I will keep an eye on it and see if it clears up. If not I will take the filter apart and check everything. I may just...

DE through returns on pump start-up

I installed new Hayward DE grids in my DE6020 with Hayward Select A Flow valve and added the recommended 7.5 pounds of DE. I noticed today when I turned on the pump, a ight stream of DE comes out of the returns. I only noticed it because the sun was shining directly over one of the returns...

Advice needed on a pvc fitting

Thanks Scott, I can easily get 3/4" inside which would actually bottom out the pipe at the stop in the union.

Advice needed on a pvc fitting

I am replacing my pump and only have a short distance to connect the discharge to existing plumbing. The standard 2 7/8" coupler is going to be a little tight but the half size coupler will work, however that only gives me a 3/4" section of 2" PVC to reach the stop in the coupler. (see pics) Is...

Moss Rock weeping wall 10 years later with pics - what I learned...

It has been a while since I visited the site (been enjoying the pool)! I attached some pics of the wall after all these years. First off, the hardness of these stones varies from hard aggregate to soft sandstone. The softer rock did erode as expected. What I noticed most is after a rain, there...

    Calcium hardness of zero ok?

Thanks for the info chem geek. There is no way to measure for MPS levels so I am not sure how much to put in and frequency. I will see if there is CYA available here today.

    Calcium hardness of zero ok?

LOL, it is at our condo on Isla Mujeres, a small island off the coast of Cancun. I bring down 20 Mule Team but can't check bags with dichlor. There is only trichlor here and the place in FL where I got the spa said not to use it so I am stuck with bleach only and a corona discharge ozonator as...

    Calcium hardness of zero ok?

Water never got cloudy and no foam present. box says "Calcium remover for stert up and refill". You can google Watkins Vanishing ACT (Watkins manufacturers Hot Spriing) but not a lot there. It is a fabric sock weighing about 4 pounds filled with some sort of powder. Also, this spa is now in...

    Calcium hardness of zero ok?

I just got a new Hot Spring Spa and I used Hot Spring Vanishing ACT which you put in for 24 hours to absorb the calcium in the water. Calcium hardness after fill was 370. Calcium hardness after using the Hot Spring Vanishing ACT was zero. Is it ok to have zero calcium hardness? Thanks

Electrical jolt from water in hot tub

LOL, my issue was there was no GFCI at all. Not required in Mexico I guess. New spa (110 VAC) will have a 20 amp GFCI breaker, new wiring and a GFCI on the spa power cord. Will be down there in June to install myself.

Electrical jolt from water in hot tub

Sorry for being AWOL on this thread for so long - been out of town a lot and researching getting a new replacement spa (new thread coming up on that). Thanks for all the advice. The problem seems to have been caused by a severely corroded heater element/housing. The heating coil looked like it...

Electrical jolt from water in hot tub

I don't ever recall seeing a GFCI breaker box on pool/spa equipment much less on receptacles near sinks. I am considering getting a GFCI load center and taking it down to replace the factory non-GFCI one.

Electrical jolt from water in hot tub

I have a beachfront condo in Mexico on an upper floor that has a fiberglass hot tub placed on the tile balcony. It is about 3 years old. We just got an email from a recent guest saying that they used it every night but on the last night they touched the water while standing on the tile and...

    Chlorinator off - no flow??

Connections seem ok. Called PB and they will call Hayward to come out under warranty. Last time that happened was June of 2007 for a new outdoor temp sensor and they haven't showed yet! If I don't hear from them by Wednesday I will order one and do it myself. Will add bleach but not...

    Chlorinator off - no flow??

Thanks Jason, I'll check connections. I am assuming that the flowswitch is mounted separate from the salt cell and not part of that wiring bundle?

    Chlorinator off - no flow??

I noticed that my Aqua Logic PS-8 controller keypad display said "Chlorinator off - no flow". Water is circulating fine through filter and pool with normal filter pressure. Time for a new flowswitch?? TIA
