Airlock on one jet after refill.

Just an update. I poked around in the jet a bit and was able to pull out 2 leaves to unblock the jet. You guys were correct. Makes sense as I did an ahh-some purge with the filter off. It was relatively windy and soe leaves fell into the tub during the purge so probably got sucked into the plumbing.

Airlock on one jet after refill.

Thanks. Will try the suggestions. I also have a rubber strap wrench which might do the trick the grasp the outer edge of the metal face cover without damaging it. Parts are much easier and cheap to get in the US. In Canada, not so much, but always good that they still make them.

Good idea will try that as well.

Airlock on one jet after refill.

These particular jets look a bit finicky to remove thus I wanted to avoid touching them. I found a video pertaining to the particular jet that is affected. The little hand jets that I have timestamped in the video: Looks like you can remove them but I would be really afraid of breaking them...

Airlock on one jet after refill.

I inserted my hose into the pipe where my filter hooks up to as I have always done in the past when refilling. This allows water to run through the piping and out the jets when it is being refilled. Never had this issue before. Good idea with the shop vac though. Just for clarification, it is...

Airlock on one jet after refill.

Any quick solutions to resolving an airlock that is only affecting 1 jet after refill? I want to avoid draining and refilling. Rest of the jets working perfectly, so only isolated to the 1 affected jet. Can I try to use a clean toilet plunger on the jet or blow some water through it with the...

How Often Does Recirculation Pump Run?

Did you read your instructions manual? On my Sundance spa, the default setting is for the circulation pump to turn on at 5pm and run continuously after that. So if I just refilled the spa, it would trigger the circulation pump to run 24/7 after it passes 5pm. If I refilled the spa and turned...

Effects of chlorine levels above SLAM

Thanks. That's an interesting thread to read. How about pool surfaces and equipment. Does chlorine (and high amounts of it have an effect). There are instances were I read people miscalculating and dumping in way too much chlorine and it bleached their vinyl liner, but at what levels of...

Effects of chlorine levels above SLAM

I didn't say I want to.... I just wanted to learn what the effects of chlorine would do at various levels above SLAM.

Effects of chlorine levels above SLAM

I know the general consensus is that it is safe to swim to levels up to SLAM, however what effects will chlorine have on skin, pool surface and equipment above SLAM. Some questions I have is: What levels start to effect pool surface and equipment - eg-what level do you risk starting to bleach...

constantly fighting high PH and low Alkalinity levels

I find the range completely depends on your specific spa and how you maintain and use it. How often it is used, by how many people, whether you do bromine vs chlorine sanitization, do you have borates, whether you always close up your air vents when spa is not in use or leave them open, whether...

    Sundance spa FLO error

You sure you installed the switch back in the correct direction? Is the switch itself in the closed or opened position when the FLO or the FLO2 error is shown. If you give the switch a tap or 2, or wiggle the cables coming out of it a bit, does the error message go away? More than likely it...

constantly fighting high PH and low Alkalinity levels

In my tub I maintain TA around 40-50ppm and that allows me to get pH in the 7.5-7.7 range. I also run 50ppm borates which helps lock these values in. Once I have everything set, my pH and TA usually don't fluctuate much and I don't have to adjust for at least a couple months. With having a TA...

    Sundance spa FLO error

Sold or flashing FLO error? Most likely the FLO switch is faulty. Is your circulation pump running 24/7? Can you remove the side cover and see if the FLO switch is in the opened or closed position when the FLO error is there.

Adding DE to Sand filter and pressure readings

I am definitely not getting any DE passing through the filter. I have watched the return jet as I was adding the DE and the pressure did steadily rise by 1 PSI as I was adding it. Also I did not notice any DE dust in the middle of my circular pool where debris usually accumulate. The reason why...

Adding DE to Sand filter and pressure readings

My concern is that it's not working as it should if the pressure is not 1ppm above clean anymore even though the DE is still in the sand filter? Does it just get rearranged in the sand filter when the pump cycles causing it to settle differently?

Adding DE to Sand filter and pressure readings

Thanks but I know all this. In my original post I am asking about DE and pressure. I add DE to increase my pressure up by 1 psi, but after I cycle my pump on and off a few times, the pressure returns nearly back to backwash pressure. Do I need to add more DE to my filter to re-increase the pressure?

Adding DE to Sand filter and pressure readings

I did slam like a month ago and got rid of the algae and passed the criteria. I'm just asking about charging sand filter with DE and pressure on a normal regular basis.

Adding DE to Sand filter and pressure readings

I have been done with SLAM and removing the dead algae for a while now. But what about charging the filter with DE afterwards to keep filtering any fine non-algae debris that falls into the pool - from trees, dust/dirt, etc?

Adding DE to Sand filter and pressure readings

So this year I have experimented with adding DE to my sand filter. I did this first time clear out some finer debris after I finished a SLAM, but wanted to maintain this as a routine after each backwash. After a fresh backwash, my pressure gauge is reading exactly at 12 psi. I usually need to...

    Dead Algae Dust

I had the same issue after a SLAM. The remaining dead algae dust was just passing through my sand filter. Tried to filter it out for a week but no improvements. The trick for me was to add DE to my sand filter up to 1 PSI and within 12 hours of filtering and constant brushing it all was gone.

    Dealing with dead algae dust

The issue I see with doing it now is that I don't have any good ways to block the water in the skimmer and in the jet. I guess for the skimmer I have a rubber stopper but nothing for the return jet. So if I take apart the sand filter, I will probably lose a lot of water in the pool. Another...

    Dealing with dead algae dust

It has not been done for over 3 years at least (we purchased the house 3 years ago - first time pool owner). I don't have any idea when or whether the previous owners did a deep clean so it might have been a while. Also not sure how old the sand is, whether chemicals such as clarifiers or...

    Dealing with dead algae dust

So after about 6 hours of brushing and DE filtering yesterday, and another 5 hours today, the water finally has its sparkle back. With sand alone, The water got clear but the dullness never got better after a week worth of filter, something that the addition of DE fixed in less than 12 hours of...

    Dealing with dead algae dust

I was thinking along the same lines. Was just afraid that some of the dirt/DE blew threw the filter into the pool when I restarted but doesn't make sense as the pool water has definitely improved. Will keep filtering like this throughout the day today (filter is still 1.5 PSI higher above clean...

    Dealing with dead algae dust

So just a quick update from this morning. Last night before I went to sleep, the PSI was at 16 (clean=12psi, DE charged=13psi, took about 5 hours to get up to 16). Thinking that I would backwash around 18PSI, I let the pump run for 3 more hours into the night before it auto shot off. This...

    Dealing with dead algae dust

OK sounds good then. So yea, the sand was definitely not capturing this fine dust as once I backwashed, the gauge never moved from 12PSI even though I tried to filter this stuff for about a week.

    Dealing with dead algae dust

My filter is a Hayward sand filter that takes 100 lbs of sand so I think that's on the smaller side, but its also for a 4600g AGP. Pump is a Hayward 1HP pump. OK so I added DE today. Filter was backwashed a few days ago and was still at the clean 12 PSI it normally is when backwashed. I added...

    Dealing with dead algae dust

Well maybe 99.5% crystal clear water is what everyone is used to? I'm comparing to what water was like when I had the liner replaced and put in fresh clean tap water. The pool was sparkling crystal clear like this for a year and a half before it got away on me one night and I had to SLAM. Now...
