Using Caustic Soda to neutralize Cyanuric Acid

The view is terrific. Sorry, I couldn't help but notice... Do horizontal beams show exposed rusting rebar? Make sure to inspect the structure if haven't done already. Any exposed metal will quickly rust in that environment due to sea salt aerosols. Rust on the surface of the rebar could...

Using Caustic Soda to neutralize Cyanuric Acid

Electronic pH meter pens are readily available for purchase on Lazada. I've initially ordered an expensive Apera branded model from abroad - it has arrived with a broken pH probe. Then locally purchased a similarly looking but much cheaper Chinese off-brand model which works fine. It's super...

Is this a safe way to add in CYA, Muriatic Acid and Calcium Chloride?

How long does it take for calcium granules to dissolve? At what point does it become safe for swimmers to enter the pool?

Is this a safe way to add in CYA, Muriatic Acid and Calcium Chloride?

For the last few days I've been adding about 1 liter of Muriatic acid per day to reduce alcalinity to manageable levels. I've been premixing acid in a bucket since the purchased 20 liter container is too big and heavy to be practical to use for a direct poor method. I've also been running the...

How to proceed with a new, totally out of balance pool?

Thank you. Regarding high alcalinity. Does it usually become an on-going problem that requires constant addition of acid? Or does it normally stabilize at a certain number after the initial process of having brought it down into an acceptable range? My water source is highly alkaline. I...

How to proceed with a new, totally out of balance pool?

I chlorinate with an oversized SWG, running at 30% of capacity, yielding 3.5 of FC at present. My testing device (photometer) is supposed to be accurate up to FC 6. OK I'll bump up chlorine production and start adding CYA as soon as it arrives (it's in shipping). Plan on attaining and keeping...

How to proceed with a new, totally out of balance pool?

Thank you for the clarification. I did order quite a bit of calcium chloride. It's readily available over here at reasonable prices. And you're absolutely correct. I do have a slight suction side air leak (bubbles are present). My pool builder is going to replace the troubled check valve that...

How to proceed with a new, totally out of balance pool?

The grout is portland cement based. I have plenty of good quality, fresh water. Salt is low cost. Sorry, I don't quite quite understand. Are you suggesting not to try to lower TA and instead leave it alone? I'm all set to start adding muriatic acid, starting with today. In the last few days...

How to proceed with a new, totally out of balance pool?

I know you guys recommend the reliable TFT kits. At the moment I don't really have any other option for testing other than the eXact EZ photometer. Shouldn't it be all that bad since it's NSF/ANSI 50 L1 Certified? https://sensafe.com/pool-exact-ez/

How to proceed with a new, totally out of balance pool?

Thank you for pointing it out. I've emailed the TFTeam while shopping for testing kits. They don't ship to Asia. This is the only test "kit" that is available for purchase locally. I wasn't able to locate Taylor kits available for delivery either. The only other available for purchase option...

How to proceed with a new, totally out of balance pool?

The pool has just been completed and started up about 2 weeks ago. 13000 gallons, SWG, tiled all around, overflow edge. Current chemistry: PH - 7.8 Total Alcalinity - 165 Calcium - 112 CYA - 30 Free Chlorine - 3.6 I'm not really concerned with low CYA at the moment. My question is related to...

    Where to aim return jets?

This is a rectangular lap pool. Of the infinity type, with two overflow edges. All jets located on the same long side, positioned approximately half-way from the bottom of the pool. The pool's depth is at 1.4 meter the entire length. The builder has left all jets pointing straight across the...

CYA Levels - partially shaded pool

Over here there are only two seasons - dry and wet. They last for about half-year each. The local seasonal temp ranges: Dry season: days at 90-95, nights at 60-65. Wet season: days at 80-90, nights at 70-75 Hmm, have never heard of Chlorine Gas systems, no idea what those are. I've listed the...

CYA Levels - partially shaded pool

My pool is still being built. The design lists a SWG rated at 33 Cl2/h. I figured it's more than enough for my pool, so I don't have to run it above 50% of maximum output, preferably less.

CYA Levels - partially shaded pool

I want to get a general understanding for the CYA recommended levels in a tropical climate. My pool is only exposed to sunlight for just about half of the day. And what is the reason for dipping the strip into the water? Isn't what I just said? Yes, the test strip changes color and you try to make sense of it. All the same as with the photometer? I only ask for a feedback from the users. I'm not interested in the mental gymnastics on the virtues of...

    Pool eXact Photometer feedback

There are no quality tests available here. Importing is not easy or cheap, especially being the case with the liquid based kits. Thus the electronic devices make a better alternative. Pool eXact Photometer feedback

From what I have learned, with any dye based system including the Taylor test kit you need to first neutralize certain chemicals such as high chlorine. Otherwise the reading will be off. But a true pH meter is unaffected by other chemical levels.
