Freeze Preparations (TX, LA, GA, AL, FL, etc)

Anyone have guidance on what to do to winterize my autofill? I have the autofill valve shut off with my other inline valves quarter open and the relief valves (set screws) open 100%. Advice? Thanks for all the help - so good to see us watching out for one another. Happy Holidays!

    Pool Store Testing vs. Mine

Thank you for the encouragement and help here! It seemed daunting at first, but with the right tools and patience, I think I have the mechanics down. This forum has been a huge resource for a first time pool owner like me and I’m glad I discovered it.

    Pool Store Testing vs. Mine

I’ve managed to go almost 6 months since we started up our pool without an issues and have become more confident in maintaining my pool without the “help” of the pool store or a pool service. Frankly, it’s because of this forum and the helpful people here. I managed to even advise strangers -...

    Help with Pebble Sheen Finish

Prism blue like so many other finishes has a different look depending on time of day and the surrounding environment. We love ours because it’s the right balance of blue and teal. I also appreciate it not being too dark in the evening so we can still see the bottom of the pool.

Scale or some other plaster mix issue?

Interestingly this is a new build which we completed in February, and had to replaster because we discovered hairline fractures everywhere during acid acid wash. Assuming you’re right, what’s the best way to solve this? I don’t think I see new ones forming - it’s just I’m finally out there...

Scale or some other plaster mix issue?

I’m wracking my brain trying to figure out what this is. Pool PH has been kept solidly between 7.6-7.8 since fill. Occasionally I was able to get it down to 7.2-7.4 but that only lasted a day. The streak by the jet is slightly raised, I haven’t tried scraping it yet. What should I try to...

Thinking about a pool - first time owner - advice wanted!

Hi! Saw your post and I too am new to the forum. We are first time pool owners and we just finished construction a few weeks ago. Happy to share notes and experiences. Feel free to DM me and we can connect. We had a similar goal (ie integrate to the existing patio) and are super happy with our...

Do I really want PebbleTec or PebbleSheen as a resurface for my existing pool?

Absolutely agree. Wife and I split the decisions we would make. Plaster color was on me and I agonized until the pool was filled. In the end, there are so many factors that influence what it will look like that are out of your control. My advice is pick something you like and know your pool...

Do I really want PebbleTec or PebbleSheen as a resurface for my existing pool?

This is our newly finished pool with PebbleSheen Prism Blue. It’s still changing colors a little but also started out more teal and is settling into a bluish aqua. Personally I prefer the darker look on overcast days and this was a great compromise since it really pops in the sun.

Overhang of Travertine around Raised beam

Thanks for the advice! We just got the stucco coat on after I posted and we still have a solid 2-3 inches of overhang. The only other thing I might have done differently is have fire features, but I figure we can do that on the patio with furniture and fire bowls.

Overhang of Travertine around Raised beam

You can see the overhang on both inside and outside edges is about 2-3” and the back side is unfinished. They are putting on a stucco coat in the exposed areas today so that will finish up any rough surfaces.

Overhang of Travertine around Raised beam

I’ll grab a photo of mine tomorrow. We have travertine coping on the raised beam and it overhangs on both sides. My understanding is we will get a “brown coat” on the backside pretty soon here. It’s good to be picky but I’m picking and choosing my battles. So far my builder has been awesome and...

    Waterfall Lighting?

My yard lights aren’t probably the right thing. But something like this could work for your setup. As a bonus it’s solar powered so no need to worry about wiring Light Solar Spotlights, Pond Lights Led Underwater, Colorful Garden Flood light IP 68 Waterproof LED Security Light for Lawn Land...

    Waterfall Lighting?

Find yourself an IP-68 rated light bar for outdoor or wet use and run power to the back of the rock formation. It’ll be a lot less than $2k and you’ll be able to fiddle with it to your hearts content. I use flood lights in my yard and quite literally they withstand flooding and run like a champ.

    All done :-)

That’s genius! Is this something you came up with or is your PB on another level? I can’t tell if this is common knowledge. We are building a pool here in TX and are anxiously waiting the end!

For what it’s worth, we are going with Prism Blue when our pool finally gets going. We are really early in the process and still working through HOA approvals.

Thanks for posting! I’m looking at the swatch for Pebblesheen Prism Blue, I don’t see any of the bright blue specks in your finish, was that an upgrade?

    Help with Pebble Sheen Finish

Hi! Prism Blue is my first choice also, wife is liking French Grey but it’s too flat for my tastes. Are you able to post a photo or two of your pool? Would love to see it in full sun as well as overcast if you have a photo. Thank you!!

Why is it hard to find a pool builder willing to communicate these days??

What are the odds? We are in Pflugerville also and just signed on a contract. We’ve had a great experience so far, but we are literally in the earliest of stages. I’m expecting this to take longer than usual, but it’s like this in every industry. Good luck on your pool dreams!
