Dolphin Nautilus keeps getting stuck on side wall

I also found over the years that the dirtier the water (ie, early in the season), the faster the filters get gross, the worse the suction is, and it can't climb the walls properly. When it falls off the wall too soon in the climb, it gets stuck on its side. Your solution is very interesting...

    Help with sizing a generator

Interesting results. I ran a salt test, and came up with 1200ppm. This is after a 25% drain and fill (in order to attempt to fix my leaks). This implies a 1600ppm salt level prior to the drain. I was expecting higher.

Yeah, I found that hilarious too. The only components that are metal are the screws, and they look like they're stainless.

    Help with sizing a generator

Heater is likely from 2006. Current pool is not the issue. We are likely going to be replacing it, and the components we're using (skimmer and return fittings) specifically have the warning I copied above. And yes, I think it might be time to run a salt test just to see where I'm at.

    Help with sizing a generator

Ok, one more thing. I've done some searching, and it looks like the answer is to ignore the warning, but I have to ask.... My Hayward heater says it's not approved for salt water pools. I'm replacing a skimmer because of a leak, and the warning that came with it says "Attention: Disregard any...

    Help with sizing a generator

Finally, even though the unit chlorine cost is way lower with an SWG, because of the length of my season and my already relatively low chlorine consumption, it looks like my payback times are ridiculously long. At $4/gal, my yearly chlorine cost is about $120. At $5/gal, my yearly chlorine cost...

    Help with sizing a generator

I have a two-speed pump that I run on low for approximately 10 hours a day. To ease the math a little bit, let’s assume 8 or 12 hours per day pump and SWG run time. RJ45 produces 9.6ppm in 24hrs. 3.2ppm in 8 hours. 4.8ppm in 12 hours. 1.6ppm in 8 hours at 50%. 1.6ppm in 12 hours at 30%. RJ60...

    Help with sizing a generator

First, the money…. Cost comparison (these figures represent the current upgrade sale at Discount Salt Pools) RJ45 $1300 purchase price. Rated at 15000 hours (not sure if that’s realistic, so I’ll run numbers for 10K too). 2.0lb per day. 2.0lb per day = 9.6ppm per day 10000hrs=416 days...

    Help with sizing a generator

Thanks for the help so far. It never even crossed my mind that if you oversize too much, you could have runaway production. Given your suggestions above, I want to determine two things. First, what is the cost per unit of chlorine for my pool, to assess whether or not the upfront cost is worth...

    Help with sizing a generator

I'm looking down the barrel of a complete remodel of our above ground pool, and I'm strongly leaning toward converting to salt as part of the process. I understand that you should buy a system/cell that's double the rated size. However, my pool is approximately 25,000 gallons. In the case of...

    Vinyl patch near return fitting

Wanted to close this up... Had an installer come out to talk about repair/replacement. Looks like there's also a leak at the skimmer box on the opposite side of the pool. I'm losing water fast enough that I'm going to let it drop below the leaks, patch the liner, replace the gaskets, and limp...

    Vinyl patch near return fitting

I'll post a picture later this week, but I may have seen a suggestion by Bama that might work. I'll make a coffer dam out of a bucket, and have one of my kids hold it in place while I work.

    Vinyl patch near return fitting

Need some advice from the construction experts. I have a pool that is on its original liner. It's at least 14 years old, probably closer to 16. Any fix I accomplish is solely to limp it through the summer, because we're likely going to be doing a full replace before next spring. I have a...

Hayward Pool Heater tips, tricks, and lessons learned

One final issue I had during my ordeal happened during my original troubleshooting process. I started by jumping the two TH terminals on the gas valve to verify that the valve itself worked. Then I systematically added one section of the system at a time. The idea is that the first time the...

Hayward Pool Heater tips, tricks, and lessons learned

Sure enough, when I put the thermostat back in, the system didn't fire up. After jumping the pressure switch, it worked, so once again my pressure switch failed. Before starting, make sure the main gas supply is off. Turn off the pool pumps. If you have shutoff valves, isolate the water. I...

Hayward Pool Heater tips, tricks, and lessons learned

First the thermostat.... I ran through the troubleshooting guide a couple years ago and determined that the thermostat had failed. In the parts list diagram, the part number is listed as CHXTST1930. However, when I searched that part number, that was not a match for the switch I had in my...

    Pump ran dry - fixable?

Well..well look. I already told you: I deal with the %#$&*#@ motors so the engineers don't have to! I have motor skills! I am good at dealing with motors! Can't you understand that? What the &%!! is wrong with you people?!

    Pump ran dry - fixable?

You are correct, sir. Just got back from the local electric motor shop. Start windings are toast. Not repairable. Oh well. I can sleep at night because TFP has saved me thousands of dollars over the last 6 or 7 years. I can afford my own $170 stupidity.

    Pump ran dry - fixable?

I seek the salvation of the pump gurus..... It's a Hayward PowerFlo Matrix with a century 2 speed, 1hp pump. I was circulating the pool a few days ago, and a hose clamp came loose. Before I noticed it, I lost a couple thousand gallons of water, and the pump ran dry. The breaker tripped, so...

    Hello

Stupid auto correct. That was supposed to be "test." You're going to find we only trust tests that come from a reliable test kit. Namely, either the Taylor kit or the TF100.

Hi Vinny, and welcome to the forum. First what are you using to Ted your pool? Second, "high" and "good" aren't good descriptors for us. Can you give us some numbers to help you out?

Can you check these numbers? TA and PH high

Since you're dialing it in, I highly recommend a FAS-DPD test for FC. Much more accurate, and gives better information.
