what is the filter on the pool? some of the earth filters (ec-65 or 75) the internal check valves go it will kill the seals in your pump

i take my ladder bumpers and turn them upside down and put them in the cups

be careful a lot of step jets are plumbed using hydrotherapy jets (letting air in to give it the spa effect, but if you plug it up and run the pump water will start to come out of the air tube resulting in the pool losing water, so if you plug them off take a good listen in that area

i think i would head down to the local pool store and get zeosand and use that rather than sand it will filter the pool much better (just as well as an earth filter i hear)

i close about 1000 pool every year and have never used anti-freeze as long as you get all the water out of the lines (blowing them out) you are fine

there are a handful of companies that use a camera to go through the pipes to find your leak how about trying them? im sure that the skimmers are on one line.they are tee together some where, you can rule out the main drain by putting a plug in it (although it is easier to do with a scuba tank)...

you should always take it out

if your having problems finding a leak in the lines you can always just run a whole new line for the skimmers.
