    DE Filter Cleaning Issue

Thanks guys. I really appreciate everyone's input. I lived with a cartridge filter for 20 years, so the DE is a new animal. For the last 3 years I simply backwashed and recharged with DE, but after burning my neighbor's yard, this was a first for opening it up.

    DE Filter Cleaning Issue

I hosed it off in place as best I could with the drain plug removed. There is a small crack in the top part of the tube on the side, so I didn't want to chance messing that up.

    DE Filter Cleaning Issue

Is it critical to replace the nut that has corroded away? I'll grab one to install the next time.

    DE Filter Cleaning Issue

Good pickup. There is a Pentair 300 in place, but I haven't used it in 3 years. This was the first time I've opened it up.

Got it done. Not too bad. No leaks on reassembly.

    DE Filter Cleaning Issue

I found the diagram on the Hayward website. Thanks for posting it. I found the drain plug. There was a build up of dirt and leaves covering it. I'm going to buy a drain hose to attach. I guess a bunch of water and DE will run out when I open it, but once I attach a hose I can redirect it.

    DE Filter Cleaning Issue

I don't see another drain on the filter unless it's underneath it. I really don't want to replumb.

    DE Filter Cleaning Issue

Next to the Filter is an area of landscape rock that should handle it. I may get a short length of drain hose, but need to take a closer look at the Filter to see where to attach it. It's a Hayward.

    DE Filter Cleaning Issue

My DE Filter outlet is plumbed to a pipe that exits to my street. Last time I backwashed, my chlorine level was a little high, and it burned my grass and 2 neighbors. It also leaves a bunch of DE in the street. I've never opened the Filter and manually cleaned the elements. I've lived here 3...

Polaris 280 Backup Valve Blasting Water

I opened it up last night the outer-most gear was cracked. Ordered a new one that will be here tomorrow. Thanks!

Polaris 280 Backup Valve Blasting Water

I've replaced the case a few times over the years, but not the gears themselves. Once opened, other than obvious damage, what should I be looking for?

Polaris 280 Backup Valve Blasting Water

My backup valve seems to be blasting water constantly, causing the unit to move backwards into a corner. I haven't opened it up yet, but is this usually because the gears are stuck or is something probably broken inside?

PoolGate - thought I'd let you know that I found the broken off part of the filter housing and it is indeed bent and definitely the D31 part you linked above. Thanks for the assist!

That D23 fitting looks to be correct. The D31 housing is close, and would probably work, but the one I have does not have the bend at the hose end. Not sure if that matters. Thanks for helping me out with this. My pool is a mess now.

I finally had a minute to remove the other side of the quick connect. Measuring from the outside of the threads, the threaded side is 1".

I took another look at the fittings. That male part of the quick connect is screwed into the wall fitting. I didn't put a wrench on it though. The wall fitting appears to be 1". I guess I need to remove the quick connect, and find a 1" threaded connector that will attach to the 280's hose, and...

Her are pics of the wall fitting. My 88 year old dad did fine in surgery yesterday. Was ready for him to not make it.

I'll take a picture of the wall fitting, but it may be late tonight or tomorrow morning. Unfortunately my dad is in surgery right now and the outcome is uncertain.

I realize it's an inline filter. The end cracked off, and I'm trying to figure out what to order. I'd rather not have to change the wall fitting too.

I have a Polaris 280. The wall fitting is not the typical one from Polaris. It's some type of quick connect. Attached are 2 pictures of the inline filter that connects to the wall fitting. It's cracked and I can't figure out where to find it or who the manufacturer is.

Luckily mine is plumbed out to the street. Twice a year I can easily live with. I was thinking it would be every couple of weeks.

Thanks for the tip on using something in the skimmer basket. I backwashed long enough for the water to be fairly clear, but not completely. Guess it brought the water down just enogh that I needed to add more.
