Thanks for the suggestions. Way too small a hole for a toggle bolt. All the thread repair inserts I know of are for machine type threads, these are the coarse hayward type. If there's a specific insert for this, please do let me know about it.

I have a light niche problem. There are 10 screws that retain the light niche faceplate to the backup ring which is behind the pool wall. The screws go through the faceplate, gaskets, liner, light niche and are finally retained by the back up ring. I've detected water leaks through 3 of these...
