How much salt is too much salt?

About a month ago my board was registering a little low on my salt level so I threw a few bags in to get it to my upper range to ride out the rest of the year (my max I go to is about 3600). A few nights ago I looked and it showed my salt level at 1900. I knew that couldn’t be right so I took...

Reviews/Suggestions for a new pool light?

I’m in the market for a new light assembly. I currently have an 120v Amerlite so it would have to fit in that Niche. I plan to go LED bulb but don’t want an LED light assembly due to high cost/low reliability factor I’ve read countless times on here. I’m basically thinking to go back with...

Hey TFP, need some advice when it comes to teaching my little girl the basics this summer. She will be 3 in October and I will have her in the pool religiously this summer learning how to "swim", more so being able to jump in and paddle to safety. That is my ultimate goal by the end of this...

    Sta-Rite Max E Pro leak

Need some help guys, about 2 years ago I replaced the motor and all the seals to my Sta-Rite Max E Pro pump. Over the winter I noticed a small seep coming from the typical shaft seal spot, rear seal plate lower side. I ordered new shaft seals and just put them in. Used gloves so didn't touch the...

Different material used for cracked skimmer

I recently did some repairs to my, already previously repaired with epoxy, cracked skimmer. When I say cracked I use that lightly because my skimmer is in bad shape. In a few years we plan to reseal our gunite and at that point we will probably have a new skimmer put in but for the time being I...

    Waterline tile repair

Hey friends, can I please get some info on waterline tile repair? Recently I had about 5-6 waterline tiles fall in the pool and I plan to fix them this week. I am a very competent DIYer but this is new territory for me. My plan is to use main drain only to drain pool a few inches under tile and...

    Keeping higher FC level ok?

I just watched the YouTube video about algae and SLAM process and had a question. I feel more comfortable just keeping a higher FC level in my pool, I usually try to keep it around 8-10ppm. Is this a bad thing or not recommended? I like the reassurance of 1. Just having the higher strength FC...

Coping to waterline tile grout falling out

Hey guys I’ve searched quite a bit through the site and haven’t really found a definitive answer to coping/waterline tile grout missing. Most posts I find talk about actual tile grout and not the grout separating the coping and tile. I’ve seen deck-o-seal and a poly type sealant mentioned. I...

Can be exhausting trying to teach the TFP methodology

Been a while since I've posted but I wanted to just say how exhausting it can be trying to teach friends the TFP methodology. I have a good friend from where I used to live that got a pool around a year ago. I've tried from day one to send him links to the pool care basics, explain to him until...

Sta-Rite Max E Pro pump w/ Century Centurion motor extremely loud!

Hey guys, been a while since I posted but I think the bearings are about shot in my pump. Can I have some advice as to what, I more than likely, need to replace while I replace the bearings. Is there some kind of general rebuild kit or do I just need a few seals and bearings? Thanks

Shop Vac for blowing lines out?

I am currently searching for a good Shop Vac that can push enough air to blow my lines out for winterizing. I know some are better than others as far as Shop Vacs go so I'm looking at a few that have high CFM ratings, around 140 with 11.8 amps, the Cyclone is rated at 140 so I'm thinking if I...

Need some expertise when it comes to baby/child and pool ownership?

The wife and I are expecting our first child in Oct and we just bought our first house which, if you haven't guessed yet, has a pool. We do not have a "pool fence", per TN law the pool has to have a fence around it (fence around yard) which we have with self closing/locking gates. With pools...

    Regular chlorine level question?

For a SWG with 60 CYA the chlorine level recommendation is 4. Is there a specific reason to hold it at 4 and is 7-8 too high? I like the idea of it being a little higher rather than right on the lower side but just curious if it's bad to hold around 7ish? Also would like to add that I had a bad...

    Salt cell flow delay?

I'm assuming this is normal but just wanted to clarify with someone that has more experience. Salt cell is...

Calcium Chloride/Dowflake/Tetra Flake all the same???

It keeps getting harder and harder to spend $50 a 25lb bag for calcium. I know in pool school it says Dowflake and tetra flakes are the same thing, my main question is: last time I bought calcium I’m pretty sure it was 100% calcium. The Dowflake looks to be about 83% and the tetra flake looks to...

Goldline Aqua Logic check system, Low salt error.

I'm sorry if this has been posted, I've searched and searched the forum, have came across a few threads that were helpful but none of them exactly similar to my issue.
