    Pool safety systems

Hi, I am looking for recommendations on a pool alarm that works well. And actually, I am inclined to favor an outdoor motion detector that will sound an alarm inside when motion is detected in and around the pool. any recommendations?

Circupool RJ 45 plus salt cell; lo salt/check cell light

I am using the readings from the control panel. Average ppm is 3600, and it ranges from 1500-4000 when I use the other (menu) button to check salinity. I actually just added four bags of salt yesterday in case it was a salinity issue. Lights are still coming on.

Circupool RJ 45 plus salt cell; lo salt/check cell light

I’ve had an issue for about two weeks with my “lo salt/check cell light” being on. I had the RJ30 plus. Tried cleaning it a few times per user guide, didn’t get rid of the lights after restarting. Figured my cell went bad, so I bought a new one properly sized for my pool (RJ45 plus). Lights are...

can you explain a bit? I had this cell set at 65% capacity last summer and still had chlorine levels that were too high at times.

Circupool RJ 30 SWG Replacment cell vs new system

We inherited an RJ 30 model circupool SWG last summer that had been “repaired”. It worked for about 10 months and has now stopped working even after trying to clean the cell. It seems like the best bet would just be to buy a replacement cell and pop it in where the old used to be and carry on...

    Circupool RJ-30 Out put question

Hi y’all, I just inherited a refurbished circupool rj- 30 SWG. We installed it and set it at 50% which is below the recommended starting percentage of 70%. I tested my water about 30 minutes after getting all the salt in the pool and got a FC of 8.8, which shocked me because it was 3pm and I...

A/C Heat Exchanger to Heat Pool?

So "This Old House" has a short video on youtube about how you can hook up some kind of heat exchanger to take the heat running through your AC, run it through a heat exchanger that's hooked to your pool pump and "heat the pool for free and reduce your power bill". Y'all ever heard of this...

Manufacturer Water Chemistry Recommendations vs TFP

I’ve been using TFPC since March and I’ve had the most beautiful, crystal clear water! I was reading my liner manufacturer (loop loc) recommended chemical levels and was surprised to see that their recommended FC levels is so low (between 1.0 and 1.5 - Vinyl Swimming Pool Liner Maintenance and...

Can I Run an Automatic (Barracuda Zodiac G3) Vacuum with a Vinyl Liner Patch?

Howdy, Our brand new vinyl liner was faulty and split at the seam - the pool company is replacing it at no charge to us, but just put a patch on it until the new liner comes in. Can we run our automatic pool cleaner with that patch on? The patch is on an area where the vacuum WILL regularly...

Seam tear in new vinyl liner

We had a new vinyl liner installed (Loop loc) a few months ago and today we noticed about a 2 inch split in the seam in the deep end. I lost about an inch of water overnight last night and this must be the culprit. Can a seam be patched? Or will a redo be necessary? We are worried sick, as we...

    Liquid Chlorine Has No Smell??

Update: the odorless liquid chlorine from Pinch a Penny has been keeping my FC levels on point, so it is working. I also spoke with an employee there and they assured me that there should be no odor to the bleach unless it touches a contaminate.

Help is it mustard algae or dirt

I had the same problem last week. I thought it may have been the beginning of an algae problem, so I kept it at SLAM level for a few days and vacuumed constantly until it disappeared entirely. Only took about 48 hours. I think sometimes it takes a sand filter a little bit to get it all out so it...

    Liquid Chlorine Has No Smell??

Yes, refillable. Lady told me it was filled this morning. Stored in a separate room with other chlorine. She said it gets shipped at 15% and that it should be about 11% now.

    Liquid Chlorine Has No Smell??

I bought my first 2.5 gallon jug of chlorine from Pinch a Penny today and when I busted it out I noticed something was missing....the smell of bleach! It is completely odorless and dark yellow like urine. Is this normal?

SLAM Complete - Question about TFP Recommended FC Level

Howdy, I have completed the SLAM and I have passed all three tests! FC was 8.2 last night and exactly the same this morning. Water is crystal clear. Yay! The pool math calculator is telling me that recommended FC level for my pool is between 3-7. My CYA is around 40. Last night my PH was...

Out of town and chlorine maintenance

Here is some more detailed “warning” information that I’ve found. It sounds like this would more so apply to shocking a vinyl pool with trichlor? https://www.taraliners.com/resource-center/caring-for-your-liner-or-safety-cover/23-vinyl-liner-care/79-trichlor-sanitizers

Out of town and chlorine maintenance

If I am going out of town and do not have a SWG or someone to come and pour bleach in my pool, what are my options? I’ve seen some folks on here state that they use trichlor pucks, but I have a vinyl liner and have read that you should not use trichlor in a vinyl liner pool? 21k gal in ground...

    SLAM and vacuuming to waste

I am starting to notice a small amount of algae in my water. Last summer, before I started TFP, I was constantly shocking and floccing and vacuuming to waste and I still could not beat the algae. My question: if I SLAM to get rid of the algae I see starting up, is it really necessary to...

Cal Hypo vs Liquid Bleach in Vinyl Pool

Howdy, I have a box of cal hypo that i’d like to use up before buying more bleach. Any issues for vinyl liner pools? If it is true that I don’t need to worry about CH in a vinyl pool, any problem switching to cal hypo if I can find it cheaper than bleach? Ciao! 21000 gallon in ground vinyl...

    Question about Ideal CYA level

Taylor K2006 test kit; My CYA has consistently been between 30-35 (I call it 32 - my wife loses the black dot closer to 35). Anything wrong with keeping my CYA around 30 so I don’t have to use as much bleach? Benefits to having higher CYA? As I understand it, the higher my CYA the more...

    Testing Alkalinity with Taylor K2006

I tested last night; failed to record my # but pool calf told me to add 6lbs of baking soda to bring it up. I only added 4lbs, re tested today and got the 180 #. I tested twice tonight; got 180 the first time, 120 the second time. So I split the difference and added 2lbs 15oz of dry acid per...
