I just learned - the hard way - all about building a pool!

Hi All, Thanks for all the great advice. For those who have been following this saga, the situation is as follows: In terms of the hole in the ground being filled with water, the pool is finished, and indeed, we have already swum in it. That is the basis of the contractor's claim that payment...

I'm not great at figuring out how to do this. Is this better?

I just learned - the hard way - all about building a pool!

Hi guys, It's been a few weeks, but I wanted to update you on the situation. We are still at an impasse. PC refuses to make needed repairs until I pay final 8% of price. And I don't want to give them another penny until I have a finished, problem free pool and a closed-out permit. We...

Yes, John and Val, I upgraded to the Shellock Oceania in Tan color. Like them? To update my story, yesterday I received a message from them that they won't address any of the issues until I give them a certified check for final payment. Obviously, that is not acceptable. I am in the process...

I just learned - the hard way - all about building a pool!

Hi Kim, Sorry I didn't get to this sooner - I am very interested in your ideas. When you ask how tall it is - do you mean how tall is the grass? Since we haven't resodded or anything yet, it's just weedy and pretty much the same height as the pavers. I'm having trouble uploading a picture...

I just learned - the hard way - all about building a pool!

I'm pretty sure the pavers are set in sand, not concrete. And because the other side (away from the pool) of the pavers just taper off into the lawn without any barrier, I don't think the lack of an expansion joint should be a problem. I just don't know, given all the other issues, whether I...

I just learned - the hard way - all about building a pool!

So....I'll address the two issues that Kim and PoolGate brought up. Kim, I see what you're saying about how to fix the pavers. Unfortunately, the issue is rampant around the entire pool - I only posted a sample picture. I think that in order to fix it, all the tiles would need to be lifted...

Tim, your pool looks gorgeous! Hope you have many years of happy, healthy use and enjoyment from it :sun:I'm assuming that you have paid them in full and that they have provided you with lien releases. If not, please let me know. The reason I inquired about whether the workers were...

I just learned - the hard way - all about building a pool!

Good morning, Tim, I hope everything goes perfectly with your plastering today! I have one more piece of advice. Do a little research about how long you should wait after the pool fills up before actually jumping in. It has to do with the softness of the plaster until it cures, and with the...

I just learned - the hard way - all about building a pool!

Try to be there to watch them to make sure. Or hire someone to be there if you can't. There are special spongey things that they are supposed to wear on their feet when they plaster the bottom of the pool (which must be done last). Obviously, in my case, at least one of the guys wasn't...

I just learned - the hard way - all about building a pool!

Update: No one approached us for the final check yesterday. That undoubtedly means that they know there are huge issues here. A text to remind them of these issues - footprints and uninstalled escutcheon - got us an "I'll check with the service department" response. I haven't even raised the...

I just learned - the hard way - all about building a pool!

Hi Kim, Short of ripping up the pavers, is there any way for us to know whether the railing is bonded to the bonding wire (or if there even is one)? I could ask them directly, but at this point, I wouldn't trust their answer. Judy

Hi, Although this has nothing to do with pool construction, I am happy to answer your question. You have probably heard about the Jewish Sabbath, on which observant Jewish people do no work (as defined by Jewish law, not necessarily the way we generally perceive work.) In addition to the...

I also considered making it darker, but after a bit of research decided against it. It seems that any flaws will show up more on a darker finish. (I guess deep inside, I anticipated that I wouldn't be getting a perfect finish.)

I really hope that we can resolve this without an attorney, because it is only the attorneys who win out on these cases in the end. But if it comes to it, yes, of course, I will definitely play that card!

I think the color we used was Antigua, which they said is the most popular. But I can't comment on how it looks yet because the water is still cloudy with plaster. As far as your raised pool is concerned, at least the slope is going away from the pool and not into it. - - - Updated - - - Hi...

Wow! I'm blown away by all the caring and good advice you've been giving me. If only I had learned about this forum at the beginning of the process, instead of at the end! Today is Tuesday - a critical day in seeing what is going to happen. In the past, I've was notified a day or two...

Thank you guys, for your input. I was actually feeling a little guilty about withholding the last payment, in spite of all their mess-ups, but you have given me the resolve I need to see this through. They haven't actually refused to fix the plaster and railing - they just haven't responded to...

Good advice, which I plan on doing. Except for the plastering and handrail, most of these issues cannot be undone and can therefore not be repaired or quantified. But I will certainly not pay more until the those two things are resolved. What do you think about the sodding issue? Contract...

Hi everyone, I'm new to this forum and am posting for the first time. I hope that with all the experienced and knowledgeable pool owners/builders out there, someone will be able to advise me, because I'm at my wit's end. We just finished our new pool construction in Boca Raton. We hired a...
