    First time opening new pool

You're going to grow tired of me quickly I fear but thank you for your help. How do I tell if it's generating chlorine?

    First time opening new pool

I have the Pool Pilot Digital - it tells me my salt is a 2600 PPM and to add 66 lbs of salt. Are these normally reliable (my salinity test kit showed only 2000 PPM, but I pulled water off the top of the pool for that test).

    I'm a newbie - how would I know that?

    First time opening new pool

So I got my salinity test kit and ran the test - 10 drops = 2000 ppm if my math is correct. My understanding is that is a good readout and I don't need to do anything to my salt levels - is that right?

    First time opening new pool

I had a new pool installed last September and am in central Connecticut so I didn't really get to use it much last year. My 2 kids are itching to get in and so this weekend I started the process of opening the pool and it's definitely the first time I've ever done it. The installer closed it...

New Pool build in Connecticut - Feedback wanted!!!!

It is - we are happy with our PB but at the end of the day the only way to make sure we get what we want and pay for is to be informed. I am not questioning our decision to hire this PB at all. I don't know what I don't know though. Any idea how long from this point until it is filled with...

The collar has been poured already. They have pushed a bit of dirt over the collar already.

Thanks Kim - I haven't spoken to the pool builder yet, just noticed it last night. The gaps I have seen are all along the same place and like you suggested, the white "plug" does fit in the hole on most of the other panels. The black thing is additional support brackets for the walls. Panels...

Here's one picture - I've also added a shared link for others as the pool build continues right here. There is one picture I added that shows not a tight fit with two sections of the wall. This is in 2-3 spots along the same side. Is this something I should be concerned about?

New Pool build in Connecticut - Feedback wanted!!!!

Pool build has started! So far almost everything is going very well. I did notice tonight the PB only has 4 returns in the pool. Two in the stairs and two on top of the bench (exact opposite side of the pool). The PB forgot to put the other 2 returns in so I asked him to add it in. The...

Digging starts this week!!! So excited to get this baby in. Another question for the pros here... We are going to do pavers for our decking. Thinking of doing enough for a walking area all the way around the pool and on the shallow end do a fairly large area for chairs, table, etc. Howany...

Not sure what your first comment means? So is this a good cover and a reasonable price or not?

    Dig Day!!!!!

Exciting!!! Can't wait until we get to dig day (it seems so far off, though I imagine it will only be a few more weeks). That guy driving the bobcat doesn't look as excited though...

Another random question - I'm being quoted $3,000 for the Latham 5000 series mesh pool safety cover. Is this a reasonable price (installed) and is this a good cover or should I look at a different brand? This PB is a Latham guy through and through so I want to avoid being pigeonholed into...

New Pool build in Connecticut - Feedback wanted!!!!

I want the pool liner over the stairs but the pool builder has said they can't put the liner over the fiberglass stairs that are being added. We chose not to do in pool stairs to maximize the pool space. Is that a big mistake? The gray fiberglass stairs match the gray liner pretty nicely, so...

Haha - no our NE overloads probably do look at it the same way! Great thoughts here: The building behind the fence is ours - detached garage with a loft. Fence is not pool code (mesh is too wide) but that will be replaced with smaller mesh getting it up to pool code. Great eye! Your periods...

New Pool build in Connecticut - Feedback wanted!!!!

Great questions! Kids are age 3 and 5 - only have 2 now but who knows?!? The main reasons we were pushing back to the rock wall: - maximize grassy area for the kids - try to incorporate the potential beauty that the rock wall has to offer - we aren't planning on going all the way...

Great call on the returns. I've had them add two and run independent lines for all except the two in the stairs which will both be on the same line. Thanks Kim - I'll get the model number on the auto pilot. Are two skimmers enough? In my thread searching I see a lot of info on returns but...

Pool Pricing in Southern PA Reading Area--35K for a 14x28 vinyl liner pool ??

In CT I've had 4 quotes, all around the 35-40k amount for the base pool as well. Construction costs in the northeast are significantly higher than in other areas of the country it seems.

My wife and I have been toying with getting a pool for the kiddos the last few years and this year we finally decided to make the plunge! Kids are 3 and 5 and we're looking forward to creating a lot of great family memories out back! We're in process of finalizing our contract for the pool and...
