This same thing happened to me. I disassembled things but repaired nothing and it has worked fine for over a year. The only thing I could think was that the commutator and brushes were in the "wrong" spot.

I've had iAqualink and Intelliflo for 4 months and I have never had this issue. I completely agree with Allen. I'm a big fan of contact cleaner...also fixed things by replacing wiring without visually finding anything.
