    Who’s Familiar with Hayward Equipment?

I have a simple, small pool without automation. I do have a heater though and wish I had opted for the automation just so I could start heating the pool while away from home. In the winter, even with a 400k BTU NG heater in SW Florida, it takes several hours to get the 10,500 gallon pool to...

Lots of Rain = Chemical Waste = Need to test everything more frequently

Thanks mknauss. You and the rest of the TFP group are always really helpful! One day I will be able to give better advice!

Lots of Rain = Chemical Waste = Need to test everything more frequently

...and the verdict is....on my initial test I correctly multiplied by 25. After checking my notes at home, the initial test result was 175ppm. After adding half the 25lb box, I retested and came up with 216... If I multiplied by 25, this would be impossible....so I must have multiplied by 12...

Lots of Rain = Chemical Waste = Need to test everything more frequently

Thank you for that reply - I will certainly double check tonight when I re-test. I was reading the instructions while performing the tests - and writing this post from memory (using a calculator to reverse engineer the # of drops). I am hoping that it is my memory that was wrong and not my test...

Lots of Rain = Chemical Waste = Need to test everything more frequently

***This is just a story of my learning experience - If you are new to maintaining your own pool, like I am, make sure you retest ALL of your chemical levels after periods of heavy rains.*** Before the pool build was completed, I had used my TFTest kit to figure out my fill water (tap). I read...

Pool build - Southwest FL - Tampa

He/She hasn't been back...we went back to enjoying the pool after 10 days of vigilance. I changed the filter cartridge - but didn't drain/scrub the actual pool. If 10 days of "mustard shock" level chlorine didn't kill whatever was in the water - well - maybe I won't live to see 100. At least...

Help me configure an L shaped pool

For those of you wondering if the Dolphin can get on a sun shelf - The Dolphin S series isn't as tall as some of the other robots and it climbs on top of our deep end swim-out and bottom two steps every cleaning. I only have to sweep anything on the shelf and top step down into the pool while...

Help me configure an L shaped pool

We built an L shaped pool - didn't have the amount of space you have (couldn't have fit a 20x40) - our 'L' is the sunshelf and is the same width as the actual pool area. Since we had such a small area to work with, we kept the depth of the pool shallow enough that average adults can stand in...

New pool build: Halogen or LED lights?

I originally had the same thoughts as you about not needing color - white lights are fine, I thought. Our PB doesn’t sell plain white LED - if you upgrade to LED you get color. (They don’t include the controller though, that was $300 additional). The LED lights with the colorlogic controller...

    CYA recommendation for Tampa Area

Hey Phil, I’m also in Tampa; however, my pool is salt water chlorinated. I try to maintain my CYA at 80 and the salt chlorine generator keeps the FC around 8. My wife also likes to keep a hot pool - we are always around 90 (89 these days without any help from the heater). As others have said...

Pool build - Southwest FL - Tampa

Jean, THANK YOU for the information about bar height umbrellas!! I have been looking for a way to raise this one up!! Also, thank you for the compliments - given the small yard we have and historical nature of the home (and original shed that was in the same location), we knew we MUST get that...

Pool build - Southwest FL - Tampa

Great thinking Kim! I change out my “travel toothbrush” after every trip and keep the ‘used one for cleaning things - I now have one just for the pool! I hope there’s no surprise for me tomorrow but I now have two cameras on the spot and a siphon mechanism just in case.

Help with Stabilizer - Relative newbie

Liquid stabilizer - but it is more costly. I use it, but I only have a 10,500 gallon pool with 2 adults using it (very little splash out to require replenishment)...the cost offset vs ease of dosing isn't that big for me.

Was it algae or did an animal use my pool as a toilet?

The thought has crossed my mind but, while I am a decent shot, a moving animal at night in an urban setting and the costs of missing (or even a pass through) made me think of other alternatives. The .45 is a bit loud and overkill - talk about a mess to clean up in addition to trying to tell the...

Pool Deck Question. Marble and slipping? or even travertine and slipping

I have 'shellstone' travertine - it has oyster shells (naturally I assume) imbedded in the rock. It is not sealed, is not slippery and the best part is it doesn't get HOT with full Florida sun. I haven't had any pool parties yet - no accidents of any type - so I am not 100% sure about staining.

New Here- Need to select waterline tile ASAP

Instead of trying to match our travertine, we used the waterline tile as the pop of color. Both our travertine coping/deck and the white crystal pebblesheen finish are very light - so the waterline tile became the focal point and this worked very well for us.

Was it algae or did an animal use my pool as a toilet?

Dirk - my apologies for not acknowledging the CDC article. Both the wife and I read the article and are treating the pool as 'infected' until we know better. It is a no swim zone and I am keeping the chlorine level at/above shock level until I have an idea of what I am dealing with. I don't...

Was it algae or did an animal use my pool as a toilet?

I had actually started discussing this in my build thread and have a picture of the mess left in my pool here: Pool build - Southwest FL - Tampa - Page 11 It doesn't look like your photo, but I don't know how long it had been there and it appears to have broken down into mush by the time I get...

Was it algae or did an animal use my pool as a toilet?

I have Ring camera - and it picks up human activity in the yard really well and has recorded the feral cats, so I was surprised that there wasn't video already. I had already increased the sensitivity but I still didn't catch the animal on video. This morning I adjusted the angle of the camera...

Was it algae or did an animal use my pool as a toilet?

Good news - there was no stain when I got home last night! I tested the water and FC was ~12, I guess super-chlorinate works pretty good. I added liquid chlorine and brought the FC up a little over shock level (per pool math, 31 is my shock level and 2.5 gallons of pool store chlorine brought...

Pool build - Southwest FL - Tampa

I'll have to stop at a Dollar store to get a throw away turkey baster - I tried to get some in a pool store water test bottle and any attempt to get some in a bottle caused it to break up and spread. So I grabbed my pool vac and sucked it into the filter ;(
