New Pool, Old Deck - Height Mismatch

I like the raised step idea. I went out with a level and a tape measure tonight to get a clear idea of the height difference, and according to the tape, the height difference from the top of the existing deckboards to the top of the top rail is 5 inches exactly, and from the top of the...

New Pool, Old Deck - Height Mismatch

I considered cribbing new joists onto the old ones, but I would have to use 2x10s to get enough lift and enough surface to bolt them and give them the strength they need to support the floor. The height difference seems to be 6-7" but I can measure tomorrow to be sure.

New Pool, Old Deck - Height Mismatch

Hey all, I previously had a 24' round, 48" deep above-ground pool with a deck along 1/4 of the circumference. The old pool was severely rusted and some supports had buckled, so I opted to have the entire thing replaced with a new pool. Our new pool is a 52" deep model, and was built in the...

    Vacuuming sand back into filter

Hi all, I recently discovered that I cracked my lateral assembly when I removed it to deep clean the sand filter before opening the pool, and it resulted in some sand getting into the pool. I've got a new lateral assembly installed, but I need to get the sand out. Is it safe to vacuum it back...

    In SLAM process

I get mine at Walmart. It's the Clorox Stabilizer granules in the 4lb jug. My muriatic acid came from Home Depot.

    New Member / Owner

It's funny how much your experience seems to be mirroring mine. We did a new liner because I was suspecting leaking based on having to add water weekly last year. This year I have only added water once since we finished refilling and I've pumped some out twice. Hopefully you have as easy a...

That looks like sand from the installers' shoes. I had a new liner installed back in June and had some sand like that. I was able to vacuum it all up, although it did take a few days.

New Owner, Old VERY Neglected Pool

Have you opened the filter yet and done a deep cleaning of the sand? Deep Clean a Sand Filter That will let you get a good look at what's in your filter and make sure it's ready for the big task ahead of it.

Poolmath app suggestion: bleach date code converter

Would like to second this idea. I would suggest putting it up in the Bleach $ Calculator section, or maybe put today's Julian date somewhere on the home screen of the app.

Zero chlorine all of a sudden

If you measured your CYA at 35, you should round that up to 40, and your SLAM target should be 16. FC levels higher than that will be quickly consumed by the sun and could bleach your liner (not sure if your pool has one or not). Inconsistent consumption of FC could be due to more/less UV...

    Black algae problem

The test kit is expensive up front, but it pays for itself in chemical savings once you have the water chemistry under control. With a FAS-DPD chlorine test, you can be very precise in how much chlorine your pool consumes daily, and replenish accordingly. Also, if you have visible spots of...

How I Ballance my Chemistry - Crystal Clear Water

That sale coincided with a new location grand opening here back around the 4th. I checked at lunch and they had almost 100 units listed in stock - all sold out by 6PM.

    First time SLAM question.

I don't know how accurate their inventory is, but I see a bunch of Home Depots in Nashville that have 3-packs of HDX Chlorinating Liquid in stock for $10.33 (bulk discounted to 9.30 if you buy 4 or more).

How I Ballance my Chemistry - Crystal Clear Water

The new Menards in Florence has gallons of 12.5% for $3.99 that is really fresh. The date on the bottles was July 11.

How I Ballance my Chemistry - Crystal Clear Water

Hey welcome to the forum! I'm just across the Licking from you but grew up over in Kenton Co. For most of July, I've been adding 64 oz of 10% from Walmart every day. It's funny you mention that about the PH and adding acid. I had a new liner done in June and filled from my garden hose. TA...

    Recommend an AGP winter cover?

Can anyone recommend a good winter cover? I have a 24' round above-ground pool. I bought a new one last year from Amazon that turned out to be a waste of money - it was basically a tarp with a cable and winch. It barely survived the winter. I'd like to get a high-quality one that will last for...

New Pool Owner - How to plumb it right?

Just getting into all this pool stuff, and I have a couple of questions. I hooked up the pump and got the pool filled about 1 1/2" up the skimmer, but I think my pump was sucking some air a few seconds every minute. I also have a couple of slow drip leaks on the return side and on one on the...

New Owner - Add CYA and SLAM simultaneously?

Will do, once I get another inch or two of water in it this evening. Thanks for the help.

New Owner - Add CYA and SLAM simultaneously?

Wow, that was fast. Thanks guys. Once I get home tonight, I'll backwash the filter and get it up and going, test the pH (haven't done this yet, moving has been eating ALL my time), get the CYA dosed, then after the sun goes down, dump the bleach in. If the pH test comes back out of range...

New Owner - Add CYA and SLAM simultaneously?

Hi all, new pool owner here. I've been reading like crazy and getting familiar with the pool, but could use some advice. We just moved in, and the pool hadn't been opened this year. I uncovered it and did a CYA test, and it came back 0 CYA. I then spent some time the next few evenings getting...
