Las Vegas - Pool, Spa & Sunken Kitchen | We have water!

We have a swim up bar with underwater stools similar to your design. I never thought of a foot rest, and I can't really see that it would be that useful. The ergonomics of stool height and counter height and that relationship are critical. Definitely worth double-checking that it matches what...

Can an SWG be used on a pool that has a liner?

My brother is getting ready to break ground on a pool in Mississippi - it will be a drop in liner. Are there any known issues with using a SWG with a pool with a liner?

OK good to know - thank you James. I'll have another go at it.

    "No cell power" message

After having read my Hayward PS-8 manual, I think I was reversing the polarity correctly. In one direction I get the High Salt msg, and in the other direction I get No Cell Power. Sounds to me like my salt level is still too high.

    "No cell power" message

I'm not sure what is actually happening now. I turned my SWG completely off last night and just ran the pumps. This morning I went and increased the percentage so that the chlorinator would turn on. When I checked its operation it said "Chlorinator off/Percentage met" which seems odd since it...

    "No cell power" message

New wrinkle in the situation. My SWG was reading low chlorine constantly and I ended up putting too much salt in my pool. Once I cleaned the SWG with muriatic acid, it showed the proper salt reading, which is now 5300 - way too high. I just went and checked my pool and on the screen it now says...

Here is a picture of the back of my control board - you can see my blob of solder on the problematic joint.

    "No cell power" message

My board looks just like the one in the video - it has a dark spot right where that solder joint is. I have tried soldering that point about 10 times to no avail - my soldering skills are terrible, but this doesn't look like it should be that hard. Still getting the "No cell power" message.

    "No cell power" message

An update - I checked tonight and the message says "No cell power 2". I don't believe it was saying that earlier (merely no cell power) but I can't be 100% sure. Doing some research online it seems like things still point to a bad solder on the back of the board.

Wow - that video is incredibly informative. I have exactly the same control board. I will definitely pull it out and have a look tomorrow, and will report back. Thank you very much!

Solders can go bad for sure, but it has been working for >10 years, so I highly doubt that is the issue - but thanks for the suggestion.

    "No cell power" message

A friend of mine owns a pool maintenance business and told me what to do. I was very protective of the plug end of the wire, but I submerged the entire cell in the solution to clean it. My friend said let it sit in the solution til it stops bubbling/fizzing (roughly 10-15 minutes). I never tried...

    "No cell power" message

The service light is on on my control panel and there is a message that says "no cell power". I unplugged/re-plugged the SWG - no effect. There is also a button which attempts to start up the cell after about a 10 second countdown. I hear clicking and noises, but it quickly reverts to the same...

    New Build - Austin, TX

Love your design. I also built a circular spa that cascades down into the pool. There is not a ton of room for everyone's feet if it fills up with people. Ovals and horseshoe shapes tend to solve that problem. It's a minor nit - we rarely have more than 4 people in our spa. The piece of...

Anyone know of commercial development of this visual CYA test?

I think an AI-based visual recognition service could be trained to recognize different levels of CYA. This reminds me of a use case where an AI system was trained to recognize pre-cancerous cells from images. Hmmm...not enough money in this particular use case to cause anyone to invest. Would...

Will this design cause maintenance nightmares?

Hey TexasState - I'm just down the road from you in Dripping Springs. My comments: - agree with commenters above about one set of stairs; wedding cake style in one corner would be optimal - presumably the deep end of the pool is down by the spa; a bench down there is cool because the kids will...

Weak flow = old worn out pump?

@mknauss FTW! Backwashed my filter and all is well. Thanks for the suggestion!

Weak flow = old worn out pump?

I am typically good about cleaning my filter, but I have to admit I feel like a schmuck for not thinking of that - and I'm overdue. Thanks for the suggestion.

Weak flow = old worn out pump?

I installed my pool 10-11 years ago. My 1hp Hayward pool pump is running, but the pressure coming out of the wall jets is very low, and when I switch it over to spillover it's equally weak. In fact it is so weak that the flow sensor is not registering any flow so the chlorinator is not running...

    Heater problems

My spa heater is no longer working - my symptom description is not going to be very technical unfortunately. After lighting up it runs for about 30-45 seconds, and then it starts to make what I can only describe as a moaning/groaning noise. This picks up in intensity until it begins to make a...

Let TA get extremely high - trying to get under control - now scaling

TFP crew FTW again! I did exactly as you suggested - it cleared most of it up. I may have to go at it again, but catching it early was key I think. Thank you very much!

Let TA get extremely high - trying to get under control - now scaling

I got a little too lazy with testing my water. Finally replaced my TFTest Kit and did a full test a couple of weeks ago. My TA was 290! pH looked like 8.2...hard to tell if it goes higher than that. I dumped a good bit of muriatic acid in to try to lower the TA/pH and then aerated. TA is down...

    DE all over my pool

I did not replace the O-Ring. In fact the plastic housing that sits on top of all the filter elements has a crack in the piece of pipe that fits down over the stand pipe with the o-ring. I ordered new filter grids, an o-ring, and a new plastic housing/manifold yesterday. Once that is in place...

    DE all over my pool

I cleaned out my Hayward DE filter yesterday - the filter elements are looking pretty worn as it is about 8 years old. Once I put it back together and started things up, my pool clouded up with DE. I now have a cloudy pool and DE all over the bottom. I brush the floor and it seems to just...

Return line leak under concrete decking - options?

A guy from pipesdownunder.com sent me back an email. They do sell to the consumer. Prices are attractive. My problem as I think more about is that this system only works on a dedicated length of line. My return line originates at the pump and runs over underneath the spa where it then...

Return line leak under concrete decking - options?

I noticed a leak and called a detection company to come out and find it. Sure enough there is a broken fitting in a return line a couple of feet from the pool wall - of course it is underneath some concrete decking. Repair estimate is $2600! Being the cheap bastage that I am, I'd like to...

Halogen pool lights don't turn on below a certain temperature

James man I hear you. I wondered myself if this was really the issue. It really seems to be though. As soon as the temperature warms up a bit, my lights come on on their regular schedule (they are on a timer). I even noticed once when I went to the control panel and turned them off/on...

    Outdoor TV options

Hi Domo, Nothing wrong with going all out on the enclosure and everything, but I will tell you I hung a 46" Insignia LCD TV outside over our fireplace 4 years ago and it is still going strong. I used to cover it but I don't even bother with that anymore. It is under the roof and does not get...

Halogen pool lights don't turn on below a certain temperature

Why would my pool lights not come on when it gets cold? The approximate temperature is around 43/44 degrees where they no longer come on, even though the timer is set for them to turn on. I do have a dimmer installed, and it stays at 80% - i never mess with it. Any ideas?
