If you just bought the SWCG last year, it should still be under warranty. If you have your receipt, call Intex to have it replaced. Even if you have a new one, you can use the replacement as a backup or sell it.

You could make it work either way. The ones I have seen just use one pump. The original outlet can be used for vacuuming. If you decide to go with two pumps, how do you plan to do the return; over the wall, cut a new hole or something else?

Based on other posts I have read, the 2500 gph pump may not be enough to run them both at the same time. You will need to regulate the flow, most likely with ball valves, to balance the amount flowing each way. Do you have a wider view photo? I'm having trouble figuring out the how everything...

Another place that clogs and reduces flow is the metal screen inside the large two-piece nut on the SWG. I usually clean that when I clean the filter.

Putting a knee high stocking or biodiesel filter bag over the return can catch a lot of the finer stuff that the filter can't. Another thing I do is detach a hose and vacuum to waste. That gets it out of the pool for good and doesn't lose as much water as you would think.

One more thing. As is the case with everything Intex, the pole is not standard size (at least mine isn't). So you will need a new pole or do some modifications to make a standard vac head work with the Intex pole.
