    Astral SWG

Just got my Astral pump and SWCG yesterday. Wasn't thrilled about getting a foreign brand but had such a hard time getting other estimates and ran out of time. I'm glad to see at least there's some people out there with it! Hopefully by the time I actually need parts they will be available.

Pump leaking and considering SWCG - help me decide.

Sorry I didn't see these replies, need to check my alert settings. Anyways these were prices installed. I went with another single speed pump. Read one of the experts on here say that VS pumps are only worth the investment with your paying 0.15+ KwH which seems to make sense. I called 2 other...

Pump leaking and considering SWCG - help me decide.

Hello, My old pump is leaking from the bottom and from the threading on the water outlet. The housing is a Hayward RS series and motor is an A.O. Smith 2HP single speed (I think its pretty much a Super Pump 2 equivalent). I took it apart and found that the diffuser gasket was definitely bad...

    *newbie* cloudy/green water

Well did you end up using those HTH shock bags? I'm sure those would contain CYA.

    *newbie* cloudy/green water

You'll have a lot to read up with this site just as I did (new pool owner this winter). Throw out the OTO test kit and get a quality DPD type, like the TF-100. Read up on what it means to SLAM. You can start by buying many gallons of ordinary bleach and get your free chlorine level up to 12 and...

Pool is cloudy after chlorine shock

Order a quality kit like TF-100 and then refer to CYA - FC relationship chart to figure out true shock level.

Texas sun burning 3 FC per day

Now that's info I needed to know. So if the cells fail every 2 years that's a rough ongoing cost of $500/yr which is more than I'd spend on chlorine. At that point it's just about convenience, which yes is important, but seems like a liquidator / Stenner pump maybe a good answer.

Texas sun burning 3 FC per day

That sounds interesting. Ill have to do a little research there. I'm a new pool owner so I didn't know what normal FC burn off would be for my area either! So yeah, can't compare to last year and water is perfectly clear, no CCs, and passing OCLT. Glad to hear you're adamant about your SWG.

Texas sun burning 3 FC per day

Hello all, TFPC methods have been working great for me since I first posted a few months ago. However now we are in full summer season and the pool cannot be left alone. Its about 1 Gal of bleach to raise FC by 3 points but then daytime sun burns all of that off. So a gallon per day is consumed...

First time owning a pool, new TF-100 results

Well I've been keeping more chlorine in the 11-13 range and all has been well. Then we had some friends visiting this week. I checked yesterday and it was at 10.5ppm. Today while I was at work they ran the hot tub all afternoon and the pool did not circulate. After everyone was done I noticed...

First time owning a pool, new TF-100 results

update. I added 2 Gal of generic bleach per pool math and ran the pump all night. FC is higher than I was expecting but thats probably because I should have removed the floating tab. Also think I figured out how to handle the R-0012 bottle now. Also did a diluted CYA test. Today's results: FC...

First time owning a pool, new TF-100 results

Thanks everyone for all the good info. So all the focus has been on raising my FC super high to keep up with the super high CYA. Does that mean I forever need to keep FC at 11-13? That means I can't use the daily test subkit that came with TF-100 since it only measures to 5. What about...

First time owning a pool, new TF-100 results

Hello everyone. We moved over thanksgiving and bought a house with a pool. See signature for details. I didn't pay for any pool school but a few co-workers have been giving me tips. Over the winter I've gone to the pool store a few times with water samples and all my numbers have been good. I've...
