    Helping with my apt pool

True, but this stuff isn't b being documented anyway. Terrible company running this and at least having me is like having a lifeguard who has at least been a little trained. So far so good. Chlorine is holding in the 4-5 range, CYA is <30 but not zero and we are getting TA and CH into ranges...

    Helping with my apt pool

I guess I already know what to do here. There’s no way to increase chlorine without running this thing all night so keep it on and test and adjust as needed. If the CYA gets high we can start larger volume backwashing and daily filling. I got this.

    Helping with my apt pool

Thank you! I figured something is different. Our plan is to be ready with 4 gallons of bleach in case these guys don't refill the tri-chlor on time and to just do our best using the knowledge I have from this forum. That could perhaps save a weekend. Yesterday we left the chlorinator on...

    Helping with my apt pool

Due to a lifeguard shortage my friend who lives in my apt complex is now the lifeguard at our apt pool. The company that runs the pool doesn't have much good instruction on running this pool. Before I sold my home/pool (long bad story), this forum taught me everything about how to balance my...

    Low calcium ~ 225 ppm?

You may be right. A lot of them have the swiping motion of someone smoothing plaster. Here’s 2 pics. These pics are pretty up close, so the staining in the pic is probably 6-10 inches from left to right in the view.

    Low calcium ~ 225 ppm?

I was wearing goggles last night and I noticed that my plaster has some brown spots. When I rub my finger over these brownish yellow spots I can tell that there is worn away plaster as there is a minor indent. Now to clarify, my water is crystal clear and the bottom plaster looks incredible...

    Stupid Electric Heater Question

Thanks guys. Easy to panic when everything else opened up so smoothly. Cheers.

    Stupid Electric Heater Question

110k BTU. Probably 65 degrees outside. I’m wondering if the ground and pipes and water were just too cold to see a difference within 20 min or so of running it. Nights have been near freezing. To be clear I wasn’t expecting the pool temp to increase. I know that takes days. I was just...

Electric heat pumps - how do they work?

When it works I run mine only in spring and fall. The solar cover gives me 60% of my heat in the summer. It is slow to heat so when I want it warm I will be running it for 12-15 hours easy for 4-5 days to get it to be warm. I never like doing 24hour pump runs just because it seems like too...

    Stupid Electric Heater Question

I think I know the answer to this but hey it’s worth you guys calming me down. I have a Hayward electric heater for my pool. I opened today. Water is 55F. ICE. I turned heater on just to make sure it was working. Gave it about 20 min. Put my hand over the return jet and didnt feel any...

    Constant pH rise

I guess it might be normal to add a gallon of MA every month or so? That’s the kind of rise I’m getting. I love when my CYA is low and I can add pucks in. The acidity is great from those.

    Constant pH rise

No spa or major water features. We do have deck jets but they are rarely used in summer and now it’s closed. When I closed the pool in early October the pH was adjusted to about 7.3 in anticipation of an increase and now it’s high in the 8s. That’s my thought. Something is wrong with the...

    Constant pH rise

Ok so basically the idea is that if I’m in that window of -0.6 to 0.6 I’m going to be fine? But I just calculated and I’m 0.62, assuming my pH is only 8.5 (too purple to read a number). I thought I had to be within this CSI window?

    Constant pH rise

I have no scaling. I’m just neurotic at keeping CSI near zero. When I add acid I have a circulating pump going and I add many many dilutions with swirling. So it’s pretty evenly incorporated. I just tend to panic when that pH is so high.

    Constant pH rise

I’m in Maryland so I’m closed. Pool is 5ish years old. Plaster. I use bleach as my only chlorine source. During the season I always have to add acid to combat rising pH. I thought it was bc of the new plaster but the pool isn’t so new anymore. I just tested today, after water warmed to...

    Do solar cover reels work?

Thanks all! I ordered one. I’ll let you know what I think once I use it. Should be here this week.

    Do solar cover reels work?

I have a rectangle pool. When the cover is dry it’s not too bad to accordian pull and fold the cover right off the pool by myself. But when it’s wet it’s miserable. I see these cover reels that seem to be housed on wheels and what looks like flimsy plastic. I can’t imagine it working? I...

Buzzing in the house? Heater capacitor?

Very late follow up to this. HVAC guy came and replaced the capacitor and now it works. He tested everything though and didn’t think it was a capacitor at first. Been running well since.

I have a guy coming to look at it on Friday. Who knows.

Buzzing in the house? Heater capacitor?

Thanks Chris, any other takers on this one? I might have to call for service I suppose if this is too tricky. I could probably change a capacitor myself but if it could be more then I don’t want to mess around.

Buzzing in the house? Heater capacitor?

We heard a buzzing in the house near the electric input from the pool. It stops when pool heater is off. Another post on this forum suggests that it’s the heater capacitor. But what confuses me is that the fan still spins. I just ran the heater and put my hand over the jet and it’s not hot...

Pressure max out at 15 and no squirt from guage

I’ll check the returns tonight. The valve now blows out water but it’s more of a 2 inch little water arc rather than a water blast of a foot or so. The valve started to blow water after I disassembled it all and put it back together. Thanks guys!

Pressure max out at 15 and no squirt from guage

I just opened so the filter is clean. I do a good hosing off at the end of the season and store it dry in the basement all winter. So it sure looks clean to me.

Pressure max out at 15 and no squirt from guage

I’m not sure what you mean by pushing water back to the skimmer. It’s already full of water? I took it all apart, added some o ring lube or whatever it’s called to everywhere I could. Backwashed and it’s now around 20 after running all night. I’m sure it’s really dirty and ready for another...

Pressure max out at 15 and no squirt from guage

Opening seemed fine. But after pump was primed and things were moving I notice I don’t have good pressure and no water will squirt from the relief guage at the top of the filter. I think I might have accidentally vacuumed while NOT having the pump’s basket in there. Think I sucked up some...

My winter test results concern me

I usually do a winter balance about twice during the season. Usually I have to add acid and some bleach but then all is well for a simple open in spring. I expect to open the pool this month depending on weather (perhaps in 3 weeks?). My current results are: pH - 7.5 Chlorine - 5 Calcium -...

Any two part epoxy work for a tile that fell off?

At the corner of my skimmer with the rest of the pool the water seeped into a crack between tiles and a tile fell off. Will any two part epoxy work? I saw gorilla glue has one that would seem easy but I wanted to ask first. Thoughts?

On Closing: To Polyquat or not to Polyquat????

I used it last year. I'm not using it this year. I find it easier to just dump some bleach in during the winter to keep it a little above the recommended chlorine level. I don't like adding anything other than bleach.
