    Above ground closing caps

Apologies for this likely being covered but I’m too lazy to search more than 5min. I’ve got the water drained out of the simple plumbing, filter out and rinsed and set aside also. Do I need to worry about plugging the skimmer and return lines as well? Both have valves to close which will be...

    pH up on covered pool

The trip was friggin amazing!! Spain was the most amazing place ive ever been! Pool was zero maintenance. Had a friend check to make sure pump was good and water level didn’t drop for some reason, but all was perfect...just this small pH drop.

    pH up on covered pool

TA is 90. And yep, pump still runs about 6hrs per day with the cover on. Waiting until the water drops below 60 degrees to fully close, per the pool school recommendation.

    pH up on covered pool

So my pool is covered for the winter but not closed because it’s too warm outside. Chlorine level is solid but pH is down to 7.2 and the calculator says to add about 2lbs of borax. Can I just slowly add this to the slimmer since the pool is covered?

    Covered and now vacation

Thanks. And valid point on the vacation length...2 weeks is half my paid time off for the year so I call it long 😂

    Covered and now vacation

Back at end of October. Chlorine is 5+ right now. I didn’t get the nice TFP test kit this year and mine only goes to 5 and it’s above that level. I also did a solid vacuum today before covering, if that matters.

    Covered and now vacation

So I put the winter and leaf covers on our pool because it’s getting cool and we’re leaving soon for a long vacation. I have a timer that will run my pump and swg while we’re away. Question is, is there any chlorine usage when the cover is on? Should I set the swg to low and only run it 2-3hrs...

    Early Closing?

So seems like an obvious question, but do you just continue to monitor chemical levels and temperature by partially removing the cover and then drain and close when it’s cold enough? And threat of water level dropping to a point over 2 weeks covered that the pump would run dry? I would cry...

    Round solar heater

Anyone have experience with the round solar heaters that are available online? My roof is on the opposite side of the pool from my pump so it’s not practical to plumb to the roof type solar heaters. Looking for a real review of the more compact round ones before pulling the trigger. Also saw a...

    Early Closing?

So my pH was trending down when I first got the pool but I added a fountain to keep the temperature in check and the aeration kept pH perfect so far. Can you explain why you say the pH would trend up left unchecked rather than down? Just wondering.

    Early Closing?

Thanks for those options!! I'm kinda digging the cover and let swg run if I can't find someone to check the skimmer for me...that sounds like a pretty solid solution.

    Early Closing?

So this is my first year with my pool and I've read teh section in pool school for closing and it mentions to wait for the water to drop below 60°. My problem is, we're heading out of country for vacation for the last 2 weeks in October and I plan to close before we leave rather than waiting...

    First Cleanout with cartridge filter

Thanks!! Will definitely check that out

    First Cleanout with cartridge filter

Just did my first cleanout with my cartridge after the pool is a month old. Not because the pressure raised, but just to see what it looked like. My pool is 13k gallons and I have a 190sqft cartridge that’s manufacturer rated for 30k gallons. It was a little tan, but not bad at all. For...

What to do with torrential rain

I’m just assuming on the CYA since I don’t have the proper test kit yet. The assumption is based on the setting of my SWG and run time needed to maintain the proper FC level when my pool is in full sun all day. If my CYA wasn’t close, I wouldn’t be running the SWG on such a low setting for 12hrs...

What to do with torrential rain

Also, regarding CYA, I haven’t been able to test myself but a pool store reading said 30ppm a couple weeks ago and I added my last 2lbs at the time after that sample was taken. Even without the SWG running I drop less than 2ppm per day in 12ish hours of full sun which makes me question the 70ppm...

What to do with torrential rain

I was able to at least check FC, ph, and alkalinity today with my 5-way kit (don’t have the tf-100 yet) and the levels were all solid. I did bump my SWG up yesterday knowing the rain was coming and it was between 3 and 5 this AM which is as close as this kit can measure. I figured I’d need to...

I’m a 24/7 low speed guy also. Should’ve mentioned that in the post

What to do with torrential rain

Well the pool level gained at least 2” in a couple hours today and I kept the pump running and turned up the SWG when I got home from work to stay on top of chlorine. It’s raining much slower now and the overflow from the skimmer is doing the work for now. Will drain a couple inches tomorrow...

    Dry ice fun

What to do with torrential rain

For pool chemistry, is there an ideal practice for pump running when you get a TON of rain? Is it best to kill the pump so the overflow drains off the top rather than mixing in the rain water and having well-mixed water drain out? Trying to minimize my water balance effects if that’s even...

    Cartridge Filter Maintenance

What’s the process for using the tsp? Is it a spray on solution or does it need to be in a bucket to soak?

    Dry ice fun

I think a local grocery store still carries it. And I assumed floating it would be best to make sure it doesn’t contact the liner and freeze it and cause a problem.

    Dry ice fun

I searched and don’t see this topic...anyone ever suspended a block of dry ice in a float on a calm evening to make some fog over the pool water. Seems like a fun idea if it won’t do anything crazy to the water.

    Cartridge Filter Maintenance

I’m sure there are lots of gimmicky products out there for cleaning some of the common oils and stuff, is there anything useful for a normal cleaning that I should consider, or just straight water?

That’s exactly what I was looking for. Thanks!!

    Cartridge Filter Maintenance

I did see this recommendation in the pool school section but found that my pressure changes drastically as I adjust the fountain so it kinda throws that out the window since I don't have a constant orifice size in the outlet. I guess the way to go is to put in the factory outlet nozzle...

    Cartridge Filter Maintenance

I'll have to check that out. I have amazing water pressure though and am actually afraid of damaging the filter when I do need to clean it. We filled our 13.5k gal pool in 22hrs.

    Cartridge Filter Maintenance

I've had my pool for a few weeks now and have no reason to believe I'm at the point that I need to clean my cartridge filter, but I have questions after installing a fountain and seeing that the filter pressure changes based on the flow through the fountain/bypass unit. When the pump was new...
