    getting started with overnight runtime

I want to reduce my hydro bills by running my vs pump at night rather than 24/7 on low. My off-peak rate (7pm-7am) is half the cost of my on-peak rate (11am-5pm). One article recommended starting at 8 hours but some posts recommend 2-4 hours and state that a full turnover is not necessary...

power outage tripping breaker after new pump install

I called Hayward and the guy insisted that it's an electrical issue and not the pump. He was very dismissive in fact. He said that a slow blow breaker should have been installed in my electrical panel as the voltage can fluctuate with vs pumps even though it is always set at low speed. I can't...

power outage tripping breaker after new pump install

In my case however there isn't anything else of significance on that breaker and it's not sporadic. It only happens with power outages. The only items connected are the pump, salt cell and a plug for the pool lights which we never use. The panel inside the house has a double-pole 15 amp GFCI...

power outage tripping breaker after new pump install

I will look into that, but any idea why the vs pump which runs at a lower rpm would cause this problem whereas our dual pump which also ran 24/7 didn't? I can't imagine that omitting the switch would make a difference.

power outage tripping breaker after new pump install

We installed a new vs pump this year replacing our hayward dual speed. There was only one change made which was that we removed the on/off switch that controlled high/low speed since it was no longer needed. We wired the pump directly to the black 'main' switch that controls power to all our...

Need help programming Hayward Superpump VS

Thank you! When I tried 12am-12am it set it to off and I hadn't thought about splitting the timers. Will it prime again when it switches even if all the settings are the same? Is there an easy way to turn the Speed setting off and go back to the timer without turning the pump off? I have...

Need help programming Hayward Superpump VS

Yes I know that I should but being used to having it run 24-7 on low speed I want to get used to this pump before making changes. My old one was very basic so it's going to take me a while to figure out all the options and settings and to optimize the run time. To get adequate flow rate for the...

Need help programming Hayward Superpump VS

I've read the manual, checked the Hayward website and youtube but can't find detailed instructions to set up my newly installed pump so I'm hoping that someone here can help me. I previously had a dual speed pump without any control panel to deal with. - How do I set it up to run 24-hours on...

VS or Dual-speed pump - help me decide!!

any recommendations on which one I should get? my pool store is recommending the hayward super pump or tri-star. i don't know if they sell other brands and they didn't mention the max-flo as an option. they are having a big weekend sale so I am considering going with them vs online choices...

VS or Dual-speed pump - help me decide!!

No rebates on anything pool related here. At some point I may be ready to reduce pump run time, but having dealt with algae in the past I don't like messing with the pool once I've got it running perfectly. - - - Updated - - - Thank you both for your advice!

VS or Dual-speed pump - help me decide!!

I need a new pool pump to replace the dual-speed Hayward that I had. When I called my local pool shop to get a price on the same one, I was told about the Hayward VS ones (3-speed and 4-speed models). I know that they are probably trying to upsell, but I'm wondering if it's worth it. Hydro...

    Is my pump dead?

I was able to tightened the connection to stop the leak. Within a few minutes of starting it the motor is hot when I touch it. I'm going to let it run to see if it overheats again. Does this mean my motor is dying? It doesn't make any noises.

    Is my pump dead?

Update: I tried again this morning and it worked! However there was water pouring out of the union of the pipe above it so I had to shut it off. My guess is that this leak caused the motor to overheat. I did have a little dripping from there that I hadn't had time to fix. Will be doing it...

    Is my pump dead?

My pump doesn't have that. It looks like this except that its black not gold. Would it have a capacitor inside? http://www.discounterspoolandspa.com/Hayward-1HP-Super-Pump-2-Speed-SP2607X102S-P61.aspx

    Is my pump dead?

I had the pump running on high today with the heater going and all was fine. A few hours later I went to go swimming again and noticed that the water had cooled off and nothing was coming out of the returns. I checked the pump and sure enough it was not running. The main is fine as I am...

pool repaired - now pump stops pumping water after a few hours

Last week I had a leak detection company come in and patch my liner and fix a leaking stair return. They said that skimmer/main lines tested fine at 20 psi, however, the skimmer valve has a small air leak which is causing all the bubbles I saw coming out of the return. They tried lubricating...

need help with return jet direction

I have a kidney shaped pool with the skimmer centered on the straight side and an eyeball return on either side of it. I also have two returns on the steps which are located at one end. Originally they were the whirlpool kind (connected to air pipe) but that was later disconnected and...

losing prime when pump set to low

Thanks, I will follow those steps. Is any amount of air in the pump ok? On high I see a few extremely small bubbles (literally only 3-4). On low, there are now one or two large ones on the top (about 1 inch wide). Previously there was one massive one. I tightened the drain plugs and added...

losing prime when pump set to low

I have a 1 hp Hayward Super Pump (sp1607z2msc7). When I set it to low I eventually lose prime. As a result my Aquarite swg stops generating and gives check salt/cell warning lights. I have tried with both main/skimmer open and individually (I have a separate valve for each). Is this normal...
