Waterfall questions....

We are planning a new build. 18x42 inground vinyl 3.5' to 7' deep. We would love a faux rock waterfall in the deep end but due to current budget, its something we would have to add later, and in fact, something I believe that I could do myself as most of these faux waterfalls come in kits and...

Thought I would see what you guys thought of this bid I got on our pool. I dont want the ozonator. Im gonna stick with the TFP method that has worked for me for so many years.......at least at first and then I might switch to SWG. maybe. undecided on that, but for sure TFP method to start...

    high pH....

tested today on our little 14 ft intex at 8.0... I thought that the rule was that for vinyl its not as big a deal to have high pH unless you are running a SWG. So do you vinyl guys do anything about a pH of 8.0 or just wait to see if it comes back down? This was after a top off of water...

Dolphin Nautilus for above ground pool?

After spending the last couple months reading reviews about cleaners, for the price, its dang hard to beat the Dolphin Nautilus. It says it cleans all pool surfaces. But it is "recommended" for in ground pools. So will it work on my partially buried Doughboy rectangle pool or no? Anyone using...

    Dolphin Cleaners - Models

Wanting to get a robot after the first of the year for my 16 x 32 buried doughboy with deep middle. Really like the dolphins, seem to have good reviews, under a grand for most of them which is where I would like to stay as far as $$$. Seems there is an M4 Deluxe Premium Triton Nautilus...

Water on cover... Leave it or pump off?

Do you guys leave water on top of cover during the winter or keep it pumped off? I've got 4 inches of water on top of my cover, it is doing a good job of keeping it weighted down. Any harm in leaving it til I open next year? Thanks!

Thoughts on this setup for winter cover....

Been trying to figure out how I'm going to anchor cover on this pool.... Stumbled across this idea on a whim.... Using rail caps to secure cover. Allowed enough extra inside pool for expansion when cover fills with rainwater/ snow so it won't rip. Thoughts? [/IMG]

    Winterizing buried above ground pool....

this pool is only 18 inches above ground on a slope, so I cant drain it at all. in fact, im actually going to fill it to just an 1/2inch or so below top of skimmer openings. i bought the Aquador skimmer plates for my doughboy pool and im going to order the dryco pool cover drain that flows water...

Is storing your pump and multiport valve inside for winter really necessary?

instructions in pool school say to store pump and multiport valve inside for winter. Is this really necessary? my pump and sandfilter are hard plumbed so that will make that difficult as I would have to cut the pipe. If I drain the pump and sandfilter, blow all the water out of the lines...

Winter cover drain - anyone use one?

I have saw these drains that install in the center of the winter cover and have a line that runs through the return opening to drain water outside the pool, and am curious if anyone uses / has used them and how well the work. Also, for an oval pool like mine, would i do one in the center of the...

    Swimming at shock level.....

I know the consensus is that its safe to swim up to shock level. Does that mean if my shock level is 17, i can swim at 17, and just not at 18+? also, what would happen if you swam at over shock level? Chlorine will just dry out your skin or what?

    No CC while SLAMming?

both times now that I have performed the SLAM process, I have gotten 0 ppm CC when I test. I can smell it. Even on my hand and arm after taking a sample. Its pretty strong. So how is it that it tests at 0 ppm during a SLAM. If ever was CC to be present, im thinking it would be during SLAM...

Pool water just seems to lack luster.....

or am I being picky? it just has this hazy look to me... especially in the deep middle. Test results this morning: FC: 6.5 (goal is 4 -9) CYA is 55. Pool has never dropped below 6 TA: 80 pH: 7.5 perhaps I should do an OCLT tonight.... [/IMG] [/IMG]

Taylor 2006 vs aquacheck strips... comparative results.

We all know the strips are not as accurate, but I had to buy some to get by when I ran out of R0871 reagent. Now that my Taylor kit is full of R0871 again, I decided to do a little experiment to check the accuracy of the Aquacheck strips. I did this comparative testing over the last few days...

    bleach % on pool calculator....

I usually set it to 8.25%, because that is the bleach i use (Great Value from Walmart) However, I just noticed on the bottle under the 8.25% it actually says: "Yields 7.86% free chlorine." do I put in 8.25 or 7.86? does the pool calculator account for the yield or does it assume the %...

How long will R-0871 titrating reagent last?

how many seasons (years) will this reagent last stored indoors, climate controlled? i read somewhere that storing it in my fridge will prolong its life. is this true? I ask because I bought a 16 oz bottle. obviously that will last me 4 or more seasons, depending how many times I mess up and...

    Aqua Check test strip accuracy?

since I have never SLAMed before, I had no idea that I would quickly burn through 2 bottles of R-0871. im out. totally. I have more on order, but that will take a couple of days. So I went into Leslies, and they had every Taylor reagent EXCEPT R-0871. Unless I want to buy their...

    What the heck went wrong....

so i posted yesterday about the cloudiness. Its not due to high CH level. here is my test results: FC: 3.5 Goal is 6. CC: 0 pH: 7.5 TA: 70 CH; 190 CYA: should still be 50. last tested 2 weeks ago. tested twice. No significant water change. So im still going with 50 for now. Passed OCLT...

What CH level will cause cloudiness?

water not as clear as it normally is. FC 4 this morning. added 60 oz to bring to 6 which is target. CC 0 TA 70 pH 7.4 just to make sure, even though my FC has never dropped below 3 ppm and my pool consumes 2-3 ppm per day depending on bather load, im going to do the OCLT tonight and make...

Low speed with 2 skimmers sucks....

actually, it doesnt suck at all. The water in the skimmers seems almost stagnant with no skimming action at all. i guess with 2 skimmers and the lower impeller speed it just cannot generate enough suction. I either have to close one skimmer or hit the high speed switch. Im in the country...

Suction side leak when running vac?

I have 2 of the Doughboy Skimline Skimmers on my pool, one at each end. these are the type that have the hole below the weir for vacuuming, and you remove the lid and lay it in the bottom of the skimmer to activate the vacuum hole. I plumbed a ball valve on each one near the pump so that I can...

    Outside changing area.....

walking into the house with a dripping wet suit is not acceptable in our house. sometimes you dont want to wait for 20 minutes in the sun to dry off. (plus night time swims). obviously, it becomes necessary at times to take your suit off before going inside. while its not an issue for the...
