    Pentair SuperFlo shaft seal leaking.

Thanks for the reply Jeff. The pump was new in 2013, so it has 6 years of summer only use. Not sure if that is normal timeframe. It leaks a lot (1/4" daily), but the pool is only 2300 gallons so it's not as bad as loosing that much from a larger pool. Hoping the motor does not get damaged. I...

    Pentair SuperFlo shaft seal leaking.

I have researched it and have the rebuild kit ordered, bt will not arrive for a week. Right now I'm loosing about 1/4" every day. Is it likely it will hold on long enough for the rebuild kit, or do they deteriorate rapidly? Should I worry about the pump motor? Should I run the pump only during...

    Has pool calculator changed?

Hiya, It's been a while since I've been here. I am starting my pool up and had to drain and fill. It's only a 2300 gallon in ground. The first thing I do is lower the Alk with muratic acid. I thought I used to use pool calculator to tell me how much muratic acid to add. My notes say add two cups...

    Sand filter leaking after cleaning

I checked the valve end and it appears the recess for the stand pipe is not limited so if the pipe was lifted a bit it would still fit down all the way. I just added some lube and it popped into place with little effort. It's all leak free now. :) Thanks for the help.

    Sand filter leaking after cleaning

@Texas Splash, I just picked up some petrolium jelly and will give it a try. It was quite a job getting it loose, so it might be just really tight. @azide999, I never got the impression it moved, but it is possible. If the lube don't work I will have to try removing the sand. Can you even...

    Sand filter leaking after cleaning

I did my first deep cleaning of the filter sand and when I put it back together there was about 1/8" gap that I could not get it down any further. I added the clamps and igt looked like it brought it together, but see now it's leaking around the seal in back. What happened? My flow problems were...

Looking for a liquid chlorine injector for a 2300 gallon pool.

Hi pooldv, Yes it's still early in our season, days are in the 60's so not worrying about bleach storage yet. I plan to make an insulated cover for the bleach to keep it in the shade and allow it to be cooled by the concrete. Hi GDN, yes it's the best $200 I've spent on the pool lately. lol :)...

Looking for a liquid chlorine injector for a 2300 gallon pool.

So I received the pump and it was a breeze to get working. I drilled a 1/4" hole in the lid and a tiny hole for ventilation. I pushed the line into a full bottle of bleach and connected the line to the pump. I used a drain port on my old puck feeder to put the injector. Worked perfectly. I ran...

Looking for a liquid chlorine injector for a 2300 gallon pool.

Thanks so much GDN. I'm getting the 3gpd one right now. This is quite the surprise! Atttech-2 interesting concept, but I'm not a smart phone sorta guy. lol Just wait till someone in Russia is adjusting your chlorine levels. ;) I found this little gem for $4.55. You set the real time, the on...

Looking for a liquid chlorine injector for a 2300 gallon pool.

robl45, no thanks to swg. I do have a UV thingy on there due to low UV from sun. patricknb, that makes no logical sense whatsoever. A timer that can be adjusted accurately to minute intervals are available and there is no reason to think because it's smaller it would be more difficult to...

Looking for a liquid chlorine injector for a 2300 gallon pool.

Robl45, they put one in when it was installed and it would over chlorinate and error out. They told me it was the smallest one available and took it out. I also hadn't considered backwashing salt water on my hillside full of old growth oak trees. Actually my chlorine demand is 4 ounces per...

Looking for a liquid chlorine injector for a 2300 gallon pool.

Thanks, I went to the Stenner website and found no less than 18 different pumps. It looks like the Econ LD is the only one with a low enough rate to not overdose my pool. It lists .04oz. per hour - 8.1oz. per hour. Or about 1oz. - 194oz. per day. I think I put in about 1.5 cups per day, or...

Looking for a liquid chlorine injector for a 2300 gallon pool.

Hi folks, Getting ready to open the pool. I have a very small in ground pool and I have been adding chlorine bleach manually for the few years I've been maintaining the pool. I have read about the "liquidator" but can it be dialed back for my little pool? Thanks in advance!

Sick of buying new ozonator due to back flow check valve failure.

Hi Old Pool Man, Yes, I have looped the tubing so that it touches the top of the fiberglass shell but it does not help. When the check valve fails, water get's in the line and kills the ozonator. My setup matches the diagram, except the check valve is on the siphon injector side of the loop...

Sick of buying new ozonator due to back flow check valve failure.

Bucky, my wife has RA and she takes medication to lower her immune system. So the ozonator is an additional safeguard so she can enjoy the therapy of the hot tub safely. Isaak, I replace the tubes every 6 months. I just wish I could find a more reliable, longer lasting check valve. Spending...

Can I drain my in ground pool for the winter?

Hi Tim, I honestly have no idea how cold the water gets. I've never opened the cover in the winter. We have had lows of -15F and a several week stretch of below 32F highs. I assumed it froze. The room only has screens. The equipment is outside. The pool cover is brown and does collect some heat...

Can I drain my in ground pool for the winter?

I forgot to attach the image of when I drained it first week of June. We had already gotten 7" of spring rain by then. I had no problems going to only 1 foot deep. Well I was convinced it would be ok, but am now having doubts... Oh what to do... :/

Can I drain my in ground pool for the winter?

Thanks S1ngram, I have been paying a place to close it as insurance if something went wrong. But if I drain it completely there is no chance of a pipe getting frozen. Hey PAGirl, Yes, the pool can become buoyant if the water table rises, hence the details of the surrounding environment. I just...

Can I drain my in ground pool for the winter?

My pool is three years old. Every year when we open it the water is beyond disgusting. Mold and slime is so thick. This spring I had to drain it just to get rid of a relentless CC that would not break after almost three weeks of slam. The pool is fiberglass in ground. It has a roof made from...

Water still cloudy after 13 days at SLAM levels, with 24 hours of filtering throughou

I've never heard of vacuuming to waste. I've always vacuumed using the filter setting, then backwash, then RINSE, then return to filtering.

Added acid, how long until swim?

I'm a long time diy guy, I figure what I don't know I can learn. Whatever is going on it is made worse by salt water which is much more conductive. I agree it sound like it's not bonded properly. Definitely nothing to mess with.

Added acid, how long until swim?

Does your pool have lights? Unplug them and see if the problem goes away. Look around the ground rod for any wires that may have been moved and not replaced. Do you have a metal detector? It can be used to find wires under the concrete. I'm not saying don't contact an electrician, but look for...

testing errors - Can OCL be 0 ?

I had this exact problem and it turned out to be my 6 year old water collection bottle while looked clean had a chlorine demand. If I tested immediately it was higher than if the sample sat in the bottle for a short time. Maybe a long shot, but it is definitely a thing.

Pool Concuming a lot of MA

Aeration can cause PH to raise. Even returns that are aimed toward the surface can raise PH. If you have any features, waterfall, anything like that will also cause aeration.
