I've got absolutely no clue where to start!

I have a thread (i guess just go on my profile to see the other thread) in the algae section about my bleach usage asking for help. I did have some algae, it was hiding in the seam of my steps. There is no more there and absolutely no where else it could be, i don’t have any other features or...

I've got absolutely no clue where to start!

Hi guys... been a little while! I have come with another question 😝 So I needed to add muratic acid for the first time tonight. My ph is 7.8 and my TA has gotten up to 140. My acid is 31%, so pool math instructed 2 quarts and 3 cups. I’ve never handled the stuff before and let’s just say I...

I've got absolutely no clue where to start!

Ahh well! I ordered the little jet return fountain. I can always remove it and it doesn’t cost very much! Well... if i can manage to get the eyeball out 😂I’m going to have good ol dad have a go at it because he is more experienced with pool equipment then I am. I really hope it helps cool a...

    Where could algae be hiding?

Testing has remained extremely consistent, even with no swimmers today it was the same - we did have a brief rain storm and more cloud coverage which i’d had hoped would save some bleach but it didn’t. I check around noon and i’m down to 4, so I add a gallon. I check around 11-12 at night and...

Here’s an old but easy to mark pic!

I've got absolutely no clue where to start!

Here was a photo of the setup. I also have that failed cleaner port pipe that was a mystery for a while. One of those lines is to that, and that’s all it controls I believe.

I've got absolutely no clue where to start!

Filter Fiber is a product from jacks magic or well, that’s the one I got anyhow. It acts just like DE as far as I know but it’s a cellulose product that is safer then pool grade de. I backwash into my lawn and my dog is always around the area so I didn’t want to put DE out there. I did use it...

I've got absolutely no clue where to start!

Oh.. so apparently there are fountains you can attach to the jets. @kimkats you told me before that we had the same kind of jets, I still haven't figured out how to move them lol? Maybe I am just too scared to put pressure on it. What is the worst that can happen if I bust it? I assume my liner...

I've got absolutely no clue where to start!

I am learning something new about it everyday it feels like! Haha. I just discovered what a weir door was and that i didn’t have one. So i ordered one off amazon and stuck it in place and holy cow my skimmer skims now 😂 What else don’t I know lol! My pool was particularly shiny today. I’m...

I've got absolutely no clue where to start!

Well that is crazy! Our temp is a balmy 89 today lol. Sorry, this thread got away from me. I have another one going on the algae section.. it seems I had some sort of outbreak due to algae hiding in my step seams. I think I got that under control, but I'm still losing a lot of FC in the...

    Where could algae be hiding?

I wouldn't say too regular, she has probably been in 4-5 times since we started swimming a month or so ago.

    Where could algae be hiding?

I'll continue to keep track of my additions but so far I am at least passing overnight test since getting the algae out of the steps. I still lost 3.5ppm halfway through the day and expect my next check to have lost another 3.5-4... which is 7.5-8+ppm loss per day due to the sun. It's really too...

    Where could algae be hiding?

Okay. So would you say at most at 8ppm? Or do I got above that to account for burn off?

    Where could algae be hiding?

Something has got to be wrong somewhere and I'd like some more eyes on my test if possible. I am no longer confident at all in anything. I also started researching the CYA standard reagent test and, it seems in the past people were sent bottles that gave them funky readings - which was then...

    Where could algae be hiding?

Right? I feel like it's kind of a bad design, there are so many little grooves and gaps that don't look like they were ever flush with anything. Since I am not worried about staining the liner or anything, I think I will be trying an underwater sealer around the whole thing... It's literally the...

    Where could algae be hiding?

After cleaning the steps last night, I lost 1.5pmm overnight instead of the 3-4ppm that has been happening. So, there is some progress maybe. 0 CCs. Yet to be seen how much I'm going to lose in the day-time, though... 12am test: 25, 0cc 7am test: 23.5, 0cc

    Where could algae be hiding?

Okay, so, it's just accumulating in the seams and likely not in or behind the steps... Is there any reason I can't/shouldn't apply some type of sealant around the whole thing to keep it out of the gaps?

    Where could algae be hiding?

One side is missing the strip that covers the screws.. The algae was poofing out all along the seam that goes round the whole steps. It looks like they would only be removable if the pool was drain/liner was being replaced?

    Where could algae be hiding?

So, I got in the pool tonight determined to do some investigation (currently I’m taking an antibiotic and I’m not allowed in the sun more then 5 minutes! so had to wait until dark). I had a flash light with me and went around all the “seam” areas with a toothbrush. Meaning like, where the inlets...

    Where could algae be hiding?

Decided to try another method of testing and did an OTO... It matches up with what the drops say. A little above 5. It should be super orange if I was at the 20+ I have been dosing too...

    Where could algae be hiding?

I am also certain of my CYA level. I even purchased the standard reagent from TFTkits that is supposed to be CYA 50, so I know what it should be looking like...

    Where could algae be hiding?

I decided not to test the pool much today because I'm almost out of powder (on the way), and maybe I am chasing imaginary problems... Tested around 10 AM: 24.5 Tested just now at 6:30 PM: 6 No CCs either time. That's an 18.5ppm loss in 8ish hours? I cleaned the vials. I did the test twice...

    Where could algae be hiding?

I don't seem to have a weir door. If I am correct, that's a flap that should be on the outside of the skimmer? Maybe it had one at a point. I guess I should look into getting one for it? Here is my skimmer itself... don't mind the awful iron staining going on in there :cautious: it's much...

    Where could algae be hiding?

Despite my best efforts it seems there is an algae bloom or something going on with my pool. My chlorine demand is currently unmanageable and whatever is going on is consuming more bleach then my initial slam / inheritance of the pool! I do not think ammonia because my CYA has remained level...

I've got absolutely no clue where to start!

Oh, no, 1.5 gallons feels excessive! Im unhappy with it. I actually bought the standard cya 50 test to compare to my own testing and they look identical. I’m not sure what else to do about it other then maybe upping to 60 or putting sail shades over the pool.

I can't seem to come out of ascorbic acid treatments for staining.

I have been reading over and over the forums and just had a whole journey restoring my pool from a foreclosure home that we purchased (our first house!). You can see all of this on the thread here. I had never had a pool of any sort in my life, so this was all a crash course learning experience...

I've got absolutely no clue where to start!

I’ve got a question about DE/filter fiber. How quickly should I be seeing the rise in pressure? I made a slurry of about 7.5oz of fiber in a bucket of water and slowly poured half on my skimmer while watching the gauge, and 5 minutes later added the rest. The gauge still hasn’t bumped about 20...

I've got absolutely no clue where to start!

I got my CYA 50ppm standard, and I'm glad I waited for it! I surely would have said that was 40! So my CYA is at 50, I think, And I think I need more because this sun is just too intense... even thinking about some way to throw shade on the pool because I'm needing so much bleach :\ about 1.5...
