    Pump not working

So we’ve had a ton of rain lately. I don’t know if that matters or not. Our pump is 17 years old. Turned it on today, ran about an hour, it threw the breaker. Now won’t come on. Any ideas what’s wrong?? Trying to figure if I need pool help (new pump) or electrical.

    SLAM Help...

Yes, we do get sand in that corner. Lots of tree debris near the end of summer. I also really only see the sand when I backwash. Once vacuumed it does not come back daily. I'm thinking do a deep clean of the filter and continue SLAM. Thanks for your help!

I want to say a huge thank you to mknauss! Your suggestion of adding, checking in 15, adding worked! It's not completely clear but it is beginning to hold chlorine. Test this morning showed FC at 6. We last added chlorine yesterday at 7pm. Still have algae present but it's dying out slowly...

Thanks! So I added 4 bottles of 10% this morning at 9. After going to get more Chlorine got home to test at 1. FC was at 5.5. Added 2 more gallons. Tested at 3:30 FC was at 6 so I added 2 more gallons. My CYA tested today at 1 was at 40. I’m guessing not ammonia but serious, serious...

    SLAM Help...

So if I do the add CL, 15 min, test, eventually I'll defeat the ammonia? Will I need something to counteract it? I'm going to Home Depot as their chlorine is less than $3 each. Any suggestions on how many to buy? Anything else you think I'll need. Driving an hour one way to pick it up as...

Had no idea about ammonia. I'm going to test now, add what I've got based on Pool Math, test again in 15 min. I'll after this addition I'll have to head out for more Chlorine. I may wait until I have enough on hand to do this properly. I added CYA based on a suggestion here based on my first...

    Bleach & chlorine tablets

Lowe’s just got in a pallet of liquid chlorine. $3.33 each. Bought 10 yesterday storing it in our basement storage closet. Dark & cool. Figured I’d need that much at least to get it clear.

    Bleach & chlorine tablets

Thanks Kim! I have added while I wait for the kit, liquid chlorine based on the CYA. Sweeping it daily. It's still swampy green, but we definitely see improvement. Tuesday we will have the kit and be able to start the SLAM. Thanks for all your help!

I’m going to take your suggestion Cactusgirl. Thanks! My old test kit tells the CYA. Hopefully we can ward off the worst of the swamp.

    Bleach & chlorine tablets

We decided to do away with the SWG after only 2 years of use it broke. I'm waiting on the test kit now so I can be sure to SLAM the pool correctly. I've been scouting out bleach (liquid chlorine) while I wait. Definitely feel like liquid chlorine will be my best bet. Have found 10% gallons...

    Bleach & chlorine tablets

Ok so a newbie to the bleach, borax, baking soda use. I’ve always rested the water and kept chlorine tablets in the little yellow container. This year will be my first year using bleach. Will I need to keep using the tablets for my daily chlorine upkeep? Will I just test and use pool math to...

Thanks! While waiting for the kit (it has the fas test I need to know for the SLAM) I’ve been scooping leaves and pollen chunks that fell in when we pulled the cover off. I’m reading everything I can from the TFP site. I’m determined to have a gorgeous pool in 2 weeks! Usually takes 4 weeks...

Nope... but that was my first thought when we flipped the switch and flashing lights on the salt cell. We've had almost 14 days of 80+ here in southern VA. Thanks though! We took it to our local (and hour away) pool store and they agree. The casing where it's seamed (Pentair Intellichlor...

We’ve had a 22,000 gallon in ground pool since 2002. Same pump, replaced liner 1x, new valve on sand filter last year. Added salt chlorinator 2017. Salt chlorinator is no longer working as of 2 weeks ago when we opened the pool. So without seeing the need to spend $500 plus on a new salt...
