Foam? Sand? Gorilla Pad? What do I need to put under my pool and what is optional?

There is someone on this forum who often makes this point about the foam walls. The argument goes that foam walls make your liner much easier to puncture/rip. The example they give is: Take a piece of paper and lay it down on a flat table and try to poke a pencil through it. It can be done...

    AGP Online Retailers

@Bosley Well, I can't seem to beat The Pool Factory for price and reputation for customer service on a complete pool package. I'm probably going to go that route unless I find something else. I have found quite a few different online pool retailers googling, but it's hard to find reviews on...

@Bosley That's an awesome idea I haven't thought about. Do you have suggestions on any retailers?

    AGP Online Retailers

@splashpad I think I'm going to go with round for ease of install of oval. I don't care about color. I have been looking pretty hard at the Signature RTL (made by Wilbar I believe) from the pool factory. I cannot afford an all resin pool, but I know I want a resin top rail. I'm leaning...

@splashpad I have definitely decided a few things. Hard side pool. Leaning towards a cartridge filter. Definitely want a 27' x 54" inch pool.

    AGP Online Retailers

I am wanting to comparison shop above ground pools. I am going to try to get good stuff, but as cheaply as possible, so I figure pool stores are out. Lurking here since 2012 (I still haven’t purchased a pool) I’ve figured out some common online retailers are The Pool Factory, InyoPools, and...

Pool Newbie about to make major purchase -- need advice

I've had a lot of time to think and study on this today. I badly sprained my foot last night, so much so that I couldn't put any weight on it whatsoever. First thing this morning, my wife got up and went to Walgreen's to buy me crutches just so I could get into the doctors office. At any...

Pool Newbie about to make major purchase -- need advice

Well, I do plan on doing the install myself. Totally intimidated, but I think I can do it. Not sure I'm prepared to dig out a deep end though. I'll save that for my "next" above ground pool.

Pool Newbie about to make major purchase -- need advice

I've sort of been taking the go big or go home approach to this whole thing (with the notable exception of the extension cord.) Have to do some rethinking about that too.

Pool Newbie about to make major purchase -- need advice

Hold the phone! I'm more confused/frustrated than ever. I've done some more research. Been shopping for pool/liner combinations other than the Sharkline Matrix and PoolSupplyWorld just to see what's out there. I keep coming back to PoolSupplyWorld as the best deal for the pool/liner combo...

Pool Newbie about to make major purchase -- need advice

You didn't miss the testing kit on my list. I forgot to put it on there. I have read and re-read pool school over and over, and I am excited to put all this knowledge to use. I am planning on using the BBB method with the SWCG and eventually adding borates. I'm pretty sold on the idea of...

I gotcha. Nope. Nothing like that here. I can use as much water as I want!

Rob - maybe I'm just being a dummy but I'm not sure what you mean by water restrictions. UnderWaterVanya - good to know. The 2.3 sq. ft. is looking better all the time.

Awesome. Thank you Rob. I was going to ask that exact question after reading your signature, but your second post answered my question before I even asked it! Sounds like that 2.3 might be the way to go.

Pool Newbie about to make major purchase -- need advice

Thank you all so much for you help so far. Linen says you would recommend at least a 200 sq. ft. cartridge filter for that size pool. Looks to me like the largest PoolSupplyWorld sells for above ground pools is 150 sq. ft. Linen also suggest a 2.5 sq. ft. sand filter. How about a 2.3 sq. ft...

Pool Newbie about to make major purchase -- need advice

It's approximately 15,000 gallons. The volume of the pool is 15,200, but it won't be filled all the way to the top, plus there's the coving, so I figure somewhere under 15,000 gallons.

Pool Newbie about to make major purchase -- need advice

Hello everybody. My wife and I bought our first house last May. Sometime near the end of last summer, I swam in a relatives ABG Pool and had a blast (I never knew they could be so much fun -- I always thought they were vastly inferior to in-ground pools.) That day the pool bug bit me...

    Best above ground pool

Cramar, could I ask, what made you decide to go with the Matrix over the Aqualeader?

    PoolSupplyWorld

If there is a discount code I would super-interested in that as well. Thinking I'm going to spend about $3,000 with them this spring as a result of what I have read on the TFP forums.

    Best above ground pool

I have been lurking on this website since last summer when I bought my first house and got the pool bug, but it was too late in the season to do anything about it until next year. Now that the new year is here and spring is right around the corner I decided to go ahead and register today so I...
