LSI/CSI and water temperature change causing imbalance

I'm having the same dilemma. My water temp went from 70 last week to 55 this week. I ended up bumping my CH a little bit to 280. I don't want to go higher, since it will probably rise on it's own next spring. Also, I don't want to raise my TA (currently at 80). My PH tends to rise quickly right...

    Jandy Freeze Protection

Does it not prime on both the Spa and Pool? I lowered my Spa speed and for some reason it doesn't use the set prime speed for the pump in Spa mode. It does use it when I start any of the other speeds listed.

Yet another post about white splotches on a new pool service, but I added Calcium Chloride

I don't have an answer for you, but I mix my calcium hardness increaser in a small bucket. I put pool water in it and mix with a PVC pipe. Then I spread in pool as I walk the length of the pool. It does warm up some, but is fine if you aware of it.

Dual Inverter Heat Pumps - Gained Efficiency?

I'm curious if my heat pump will maintain temp in the winter. Right now, I turn on both the heat pump and gas heater initially. I have the gas heater shut off around 90 and let the heat pump get it up to 102. Then the heat pump maintains the temp. Ambient temp is around 70 right now. When...

Dual Inverter Heat Pumps - Gained Efficiency?

The spa listed in the original post is 3500, so actual time will be significantly longer.

Dual Inverter Heat Pumps - Gained Efficiency?

Do you plan to use the spa in the winter? If so, it will take a long time to heat it up. Depending on the outdoor temp, it might not get it hot. In the summer, my 900 gallon spa takes about an hour to get hot (110k Heat Pump).

Drain water during OR after rain?

My auto-drain goes directly into my yard with the normal drainage flow. I drained out of the spigot to the street and it went down to the sewer drain. You might need to check your city to verify you can do this.

Drain water during OR after rain?

You don't want the pool to overflow, so I would drain well before it gets near the top. I have a new build and learned that the auto-drain was clogged in September. The water got close to the top of the pool. I hooked up a hose to the spigot on my pool plumbing and drained it in the driveway (to...

Best Places to Buy Liquid Chlorine

I will probably do something similar if LC goes up. I could dump 1/3 of the water a month, use trichlor, and it would cost about the same as current LC costs. This is based on my summer usage and current water rates.

Liquid Chlorine Cost Increase @ Home Depot

I'm thinking about the same thing. My pool was just built, but in about 3 years the salt will be up from LC. Maybe prices on SWGs will come back to a more reasonable price then.

Liquid Chlorine Cost Increase @ Home Depot

I called Leslie's last month and it was $40 for 4 gallons.

Liquid Chlorine Cost Increase @ Home Depot

I mentioned in another thread that trichlor is now more affordable.

Online sources of bleach - Fall 2022 edition

That just made me think about liquid bleach vs. trichlor. It would cost me about $75/month in the summer to use LC and about $55/month to use trichlor. If I dump 1/3 of my pool a month, it costs $20 in water. It might be worth dumping water now.

Online sources of bleach - Fall 2022 edition

Wow! I just checked my local Home Depot online. On 9/28 I bought some 4 gallon boxes at $17.98. It's now $29.98.

    Magic Plastics Check Valve Cleaning

That worked. I diverted most of the water while the pump was priming and it cleared it up.

    Magic Plastics Check Valve Cleaning

This was just installed about 3 months ago. I hope it's not bad already. It's the makeup valve that goes to the spa. I'm not sure why it looks so dirty (could be low flow). I want to see flow, so I know the lowest RPM on my VSP with water going the spa.

    Magic Plastics Check Valve Cleaning

I was looking at what I believe is a Magic Plastics check valve in my plumbing. The plastic view window is hard to use. Has anyone cleaned one of these? I believe you can just take the clear plastic off with the 6 screws.

    2022 Bleach Prices - Yikes!

Do you store it inside? I thought about buying more LC and storing it inside, just don't have much space. I have been using trichlor as well, but sparingly. My pool was initially filled in July and needed CYA. Also, I was on vacation for 10 days without anyone to add chlorine. I bought mine...

    2022 Bleach Prices - Yikes!

I picked up 8 gallons yesterday at HD (still $17.98 for 4 gallons). They had an older pallet. I found a new pallet that just arrived, so I dug into the shrink wrap. The date stamp was only 7 days out.

    2022 Bleach Prices - Yikes!

Is HD the best option for bleach right now? I've been buying 4 gallons for $17.98. My current concern is that it sits outside at the store. This is my first season and I'm not sure about restock over the next months.

    Total Hardness and Calcium Hardness

Thanks for the advice. My initial concern was seeing it at 200. Pool Math recommends 250+ and NPT recommends 200+. I'll leave it alone and check monthly.

    Total Hardness and Calcium Hardness

According to Taylor (link above) the Total Hardness doesn't matter, just the CH. I've got the CH in the manufacturers recommended range (200-400). I'll continue to check and keep it in that range.

    Total Hardness and Calcium Hardness

I noticed my CH was low last week (200). I added about 12lbs of Calcium Hardness increaser and it's sitting around 275 now. My wife was wondering why I needed to increase the water hardness, since everyone in our area complains about how hard the water is out of the tap. So I checked the tap...

Jandy Heat Pump and Gas Heater on AqualinkRS

In case anyone else wants to do this setup, I thought I'd post on how it is working now (only turned it on once). To start, I have a Jandy Heat Pump and Jandy Propane heater with Aqualink RS4. Here's how it works: Connect both heaters in parallel. You set a specific temperature on the actual...

    Aqualink RS4 Aux connections

Yes, there was some confusion on my part. I was under the impression that I need Spillover mode. With my flush spa, it might not be needed. There's a Spa makeup (I believe that is term) that is active in Pool mode. This returns some water to Spa. Also, it does move some over the wall (back and...

    Aqualink RS4 Aux connections

Just trying to get to the middle of the skimmer. Based on what I read on here last night, you don't have to be in the middle. Once autofill is setup, it could be a little lower.

    Aqualink RS4 Aux connections

To measure the level outside of the pool. I believe this is the method the person working on the equipment suggested for the spa.

    Aqualink RS4 Aux connections

I'm not sure when it will get in. I know that the drain portion doesn't work after the big storms yesterday. I had to pump out with a garden hose. Just looked and the middle of the mouth looks like the middle of the tiles. Is there a way to measure inside of the skimmer? I messed around with...
